One of the biggest goals that Feed India has is to stop the unnecessary waste of food that could feed another mouth. We've been addressing this challenge the idea of food redistribution- we believe that one man's leftovers can be another man's square meal. But hunger and food waste is a world-wide issue. So we at Feed India have taken it upon ourselves to learn about how people around the world are tackling the problem of food waste and making sure that nobody goes to bed hungry.
The Save Food Asia Pacific Campaign has taken this challenge on in its own unique manner. Launched on August 28th 2013 during a high level multi-stakeholder consultation in Bangkok, this regional campaign seeks to raise awareness and draw attention to the high levels of food losses and food waste in the Asia Pacific region. The campaign also hopes to promote partnerships and advocate for strategic approached and actions to reduce food losses and waste, along with increasing sustainable consumption in the region. The campaign's work on raising awareness of food waste has been addressed on both a national and a regional level in the Asian Pacific, striving to raise awareness in school and universities and through public service announcements.
What may be perhaps the most impressive strategy adopted by the Save Food Asia Pacific Campaign is the development and distribution of promotional materials in a plethora of languages. Not only do these publications include in depth and informative toolkits on reducing food waste and sustainable agricultural practices, but they also have fun and colorful picture books to encourage these good habits amongst the next generation. Titled "Food is Life: SAVE FOOD", these colorful books come in a variety of Asian and Asian Pacific languages with illustrations that actively engage children. Educational and wildly available for all, the Save Food Asia Pacific Campaign has been working hard to make sure that nobody is left uninformed.
Feed India greatly admires the work that is being done by the Save Food Asia Pacific Campaign, and can't wait to hear more about their future endeavors.
