He definitely rants about this to Ranpo once they become friends. The absurdity of the situation, not that he sometimes has weird nightmares about that cold stare they gave him when they came out of the book. And that he writes about it for at least an hour after waking up from said dream.

Because it's genuinely terrifying, what he thought would happen in that moment. But there was such a weight behind it, like drawing in the entirety of a normally scattered focus. An angel casting each of it's eyes on you all at once.

And then dismissing you. Was it mercy, or a lack of interest? Deciding he wasn't worth the trouble?

Not necessarily weird, but if I was the informant, I'd sometimes shapeshift into the people I'd find attractive. I couldn't help it, i like admiring the (maybe dead) menu

Does the reader... miss Homer? Like, yeah they'd probably be pissed off that he left them alone (cough* abandoned maybe cough*) but he did technically raise them?? Would they even be happy if Homer one day just popped back into their life?

The way I write for the informant, there's a lot of mixed feelings. Yes, he raised them and is essentially the closest thing they have to a father. On the other hand, there's so much he just...never told them. Like the nature of where they lived most of their life. And then there was disappearing without a word.

To be frank, I pull a lot of that emotion from my own relationship with certain family members. Growing up and realizing they aren't good people, and having that conflict with good memories you have of them.

Homer just hid so much of every truth, and then didn't even have the decency to leave a note. He just wasn't there one day when they woke up. He abandoned reader and Argos.

If he came back, things would only be more complex and conflicting. He's here, they can potentially get answers. But...again, no notice. Just showing up and expecting things of them. And making waves in the delicate balance between factions they set up. They aren't interested in being saved by him.

"Do you expect to be treated like a father? Because you haven't been fucking acting like one."

So much energy was spent keeping their life and emotions hidden from their clients in Yokohama, then Homer comes in with the steel chair.

I like to think that the informant hates Dazai in a very specific way. Sure, he's an okay client that pays, but the amount of people (who are now obsessed) he's introduced to the informant is wayyy too much to handle.

The thousand yard stare from the reader anytime Dazai comes around and implies getting the informant more "clients" is WAN worthy lmao

Dazai: I feel like I don't get to see you as much anymore :( You're always busy :( :( :(

No fr. Like sure, everyone hates him a little at some point bc he's purposefully annoying af. Fine, they can deal with that. They even get used to his lowkey manipulative and controlling behavior while he's in the PM, and adjusts as he changes with the ADA.

The funniest thing about kunikida is the possibility of us meeting NONE (or very little) of his ideal women criteria thing😭

He WANTS that cookie so bad but the only criteria they fit is being alive-

Oh Kunikida is in DEEP denial. CLEARLY they are a suspicious individual and that is the ONLY reason he wants to know ANYTHING about that informant. Yes, he has used the services of an objectively shady informant before, but he knew that kid! And look how that turned out.

Not that he's. You know. Concerned for them. Well, maybe he should be, with the types of people they seem to attract. Really, if they just took the time to improve their situation and how they act, they'd be in quite a good position.

And somehow it turns into him acting like he's giving them advice on how to be a productive member of society??? BRO GO BACK TO HATING MY ASS - reader, probably

Can you write or tell us how the first meeting with Akutagawa went with Informant!reader?

I said before that the first time reader runs into him is when Dazai is his mentor, but idk if it was purposeful. From the Odasaku episodes, it seems like while he did crave his mentor's approval, he didn't do it through blind obedience. He did it by doing what he thought Dazai wanted. And was usually wrong.

So maybe instead of being introduced, he follows his mentor one night to see who he's so excited about meeting with. He says it's just with an informant, but why would an executive be meeting with one himself? And why was he so pleased about it?

The interaction between reader and Dazai makes him downright hostile. Ah, they clearly lacked respect for the Port Mafia. Not aligning themselves with the PM directly, and blatant disregard for one of their elite. Yes, this must be why Dazai went to meet you himself. To show this person they ought not to be trifled with.

So, he attacks reader once Dazai leaves. Not that he actually went anywhere, of course. He knew Akutagawa was following. He never thought his pupil would be stupid enough to try and kill his favorite informant, though!

At that stage, probably starts beating the shit out of Akutagawa in front of them. In which case reader, seeing him brutalizing a teenager is like 'hey maybe knock it the fuck off???' Grabs him by the hair and drags him back level of 'I'm sick of your bullshit'.

And then they apologize. Even after his teacher explains this is discipline, the stranger just shoots him a nasty look and tries to inspect the damage already done in those few seconds. And they seem angrier with every visible injury.

He hates it, for a while. He doesn't need their pity. He tells them so, spitting blood while he says it.

"That's nice, honey. Now I'm gonna push on your nose just a little. Tell me how bad it hurts-"

It's a moment he still thinks about, sometimes. How they watched someone try to kill them only to see if his nose was broken a few minutes later.

He wonders if you'd still show that care if he came to you beaten up again. But that thought is soft and needy, and he is neither of those things. He's strong and doesn't need you. He is not a burden.

...but if he protects you first, then it's not being a burden to ask for some of that affection in return, right?

Since practically everyone knows where the reader lives, do some of them own an actual key or do they just lock pick the door and hope for the best? Also makes me wonder if they accidentally walked in while the reader was there unknowingly(maybe not with how calculative some of them are)

Again, obviously depends on the person.

Some of them probably got a copy of the key by breaking in one night and taking theirs to copy. Or by threatening/bribing the landlord. Bonus Kunikida just makes a key.

Some of them will indeed just pick the lock. Or break it. Reader is still planning to get vengeance on the person that made them replace the lock.

Some can't lockpick and thus aim for the window.

Reader walking into their home and seeing Atsushi stuck in the window after he asked Kenji to throw him. Dazai is on the couch just watching him struggle.

Kenji and Kyouka (after she joins the agency) just knock when reader is home. Kenji usually has a gift, so he's allowed in bc he is polite.

As for showing up when reader is there, yeah some of them are creeps. PM!Dazai and Akutagawa for one. The former bc haha funny and the latter bc it's a lot easier to be there when you aren't awake.

Does the informant's abilities work on normal food too? Do they know what cow, cabbage, tomato, and chemicals made up their mcdonald's burger? Ik i would hate knowing exactly everything that's in my food😔

It only works on living creatures for sure. For the sake of limits, I think it has to be within a certain window if the creature is dead. So by the time the meat is processed, likely not.

If they were to just go and eat an animal and use their ability, would probably work. Or if they went to an actual butcher, it's probably fresh enough.

Still, the ability has to be activated, it isn't passive. So just eating a meal won't do anything.

No, no isekai. Just raised by a very strange man for most of their life who just kinda left one day.

His ability let him conjure what he called "spirits of old tales" into physical form, so he never felt the need to take reader to the doctor or get them any legal documents. A spirit will do a check up! He says you should use leeches :)

There's probably a birth certificate out there for them since they were born, but they don't know their birth name or even date. They made one up with Homer. So the legal information that might exist, they have no connection to. No living bio family that they know of.

With both liking dogs and now having executive money, Chuuya has been the most successful thus far.

Depends on the individual, of course. Like I kind of insinuated last post, they meet the ADA because Dazi drags Kunikida along to get information on a dead man. Did he need it? Probably not. But an excuse to see his favorite for the first time since leaving the PM! And if he pays for information, he's automatically a client and they won't sell him out~

Atsushi met you when he was still at the orphanage a few times.

I like to think they ran into Mori when they were a little younger (no, it was not automatically creepy-). Like a "oh this kid is funny" bc reader threatened to sell him out for something nobody should know. Dead men tell no tales? Wanna bet?

Aw, they're adorable. They think they can blackmail me.

And thus, PM business intro. Once he becomes the boss (and they are of legal but still morally dubious age what who said that(but fr this is a yan blog there are no morals here)) they get a lot more lenient treatment. He just thinks they're neat!

Chuuya and Akutagawa also ran the met reader bc of Dazai bus. He's introduced them to too many people, really. L moment there.

Who would you say tries to get the most information out of reader? Like personal details, especially since they probably have no records anywhere 😔

From the ADA, I'd say Kunikida right off the bat. Not out of personal interest, but because reader is sus as hell. So Dazai just knows this informant that openly does business with multiple criminal organizations and knows next to nothing about them?

Uh yeah, four-eyes. That's how being a shady person works.

Literally unacceptable. He's honestly more sketched out as he learns what little information even the PM has on you. Just a location and a dog? Really? Deadass probably sics an informant on an informant. Then another. Then another. Nobody finds any information before you were an informant. Probably what started his personal obsession tbh, but he eventually has to start pretending it's still about the safety of the ADA.

I think it'd be a long time, but eventually Ranpo gets upset that he, the smartest person in Yokohama for sure for reals, also knows nothing. Sure, he can pick apart your demeanor. He knows you're hiding something about your ability and Argos. He even eventually finds out what that is. But even he can't get something out of nothing. And there is nothing about your past.

It's frustrating! Even bringing it up to squeeze the few details he needs just earns him being ignored entirely! And he hates being ignored.

I don't think most of the PM cares much tbh. Their lives are also shady af. Maybe Mori just to have more dirt on you. Or Tachihara because of his own infiltration work, trying to find out if you'll be a problem in that. But your future belongs to them, so why bother with the past?

Do the agencies fight each other passive-aggresively for reader? Like the ADA sends a gift basket and The PM tries to one up it?

From what I gather, the PM has a distinct, unfair advantage. In that they have a lot more expendable income. Kunikida stresses far too much about the agency's budget for them to compete with the literal mafia for gifts...

So they'll have to compete in a way that their opponent can't. That's right!

The found family dynamic.

Now granted they either have to trick, annoy, or guilt you into it. The latter two being standing outside your apartment or having Kyouka and Atsushi give you sad eyes until you give in.

For the PM, it's laughable. Why would such a coveted individual waste their time with-

Tbh it's the free doctor's appointment. Yosano is weird about you, but it's hard to find a primary care doctor when you don't legally exist in the country you live in...also Argos likes most of them.

The PM is a lot more openly bribe-y. Especially since they're self aware to know inviting you to anything feels more like a threat...

Expensive groceries, alcohol, clothing, and electronic items just kind of *show up* in your apartment sometimes. You definitely didn't install that security system, but you can guess who has access to the cameras-

Do u think other organizations have tried to get in touch with informant!reader?

Oh, a hundred percent. Reader has plenty more clients than the ADA and Port Mafia. They're just the ones that call you around most often.

They've worked with the police, other criminal organizations, individual citizens, you name it. They were planning on going down the private investigator route before they realized how much more money you could make by keeping things under the table.

And while I haven't read Beast yet, I think a key difference is that in that AU, reader's other client relationships get sabotaged or cut off entirely. Forcing them into actually joining the Port Mafia.

So I guess I'm curious on if your original corpse would stay dead and mine become you, if we'd both take over the other's physical body, or if there would just be two of y-"

I feel like I have been giving reader a lot of power in my AU, so I would like to clarify one main point.

Everyone is only so chill, willing to be wrapped around your finger, because they're confident that they have you. I haven't written anything for it bc I don't know when in the series it happens yet, but when the extent of your ability is shown, everyone gets more volatile.

Because what do you mean at any point you could have taken your belongings, turned into someone else, and left the country without anybody knowing?

It's the same reason they're so openly hostile towards the Guild when Fitzgerald offers to buy you out. You're settled in Yokohama. They can find you in Yokohama. They've always been confident in that.

And the moment they aren't, they are willing to ruin the life you've built to get you settled back under their thumb.
