Lie to me. Fei sighed, leaning down to tie up her Venor-assigned combat boots (albeit, with some not-so-assigned pink ribbon laces). It was ridiculous, really, how often the couple found themselves in this exact situation. One of them would be called out to attend to a matter with their respective organization with the other left to worry for their well being until they came back home. As much as Fei would like to be offended by the second-handed jab at her ability to stay alive, she understood far too well how it felt when Hisoka was the one arming herself as she said her goodbyes and stepped out the door. They were both fully capable assassins who’ve made it this far in life without fucking up bad enough not to make it home, and yet logic flew out the window as soon as one of them pictured the other in a dangerous situation. Wasn’t it funny how love could make you second guess everything you know to be true?
“It’s a foolproof mission and I’ll be back by morning. Is that what you wanna hear?” The succubus’s tone let out how obviously frustrated she was by the request, and yet she still spoke gently, refusing to raise her voice. Soka didn’t deserve that, especially when she was so worried. Tugging one final time at the bows she’d made on her boots, Fei stood up and made her way across the living room. Her girlfriend was still in her pajamas, arms crossed over her chest as she supervised Fei getting ready. “I’ll be fine,” she reiterated, not lying in the slightest this time. Past experience was on her side, after all. “I’ll call you as soon as I’m free, okay? Promise.” The succubus planted one last kiss on her girlfriend’s cheek before she reached for her backpack. “Don’t worry too much. And get some sleep, yeah?”
