For our first assignment at Market Photo Workshop, we were asked to create a concept around the idea of “home”. I chose to explore the memory of my father and how it has influenced the kind of man that my grandmother hopes I become, having raised 3 grandsons as her own sons. 

I chose to use elements of decor as a metaphor for my “femininity”. As a child I remember helping my grandmother decorate the house, with my older brother hurling terms like “stewzana” (faggot) at me as he believed that only girls were interested in such. Today I am defining for myself what it means to be a man, gay child of my father, older brother to my younger brother and grandson to my grandmother
