Oliver had just expected Felix to let him go, after all the vampire spent a great deal of effort making sure it was clear he didn’t care for anyone and anything. Though the fox knew that wasn’t entirely true. Felix hadn’t always been this way. He certainly wasn’t the sweetest or most affectionate of masters, but there had been times when Oliver had thought maybe the vampire cared. But maybe he’d only been seeing what he wanted to see all these years.
So when Felix gripped his wrist and stopped Oliver’s departure, the kitsune paused, turning back to look at the vampire, sharp blue eyes surprised. At first, Oliver wasn’t sure what he should do, he’d not been expecting to get stopped, but then he reminded himself he was supposed to be keeping his distance from the vampire, not just to keep his promise but to protect Felix as well. Oliver knew the vampire could take care of himself, but he didn’t want Felix and Remi to get into a fight. Oliver had been about to snap at the other male and rip his wrist back from Felix’s grip when it seemed his ex-master felt inclined to let him go anyway. Whatever Felix had been searching for in Oli’s gaze he didn’t find it.
For a silent moment Oliver debated and then his brain just decided fuck it, and his lips were moving before rational thought could come into his mind again. “Remi found out about how I behaved with you. He’s possessive and thought I was breaking my rules and fucking you. I set things straight but he’s not comfortable with the idea of our…whatever we are, friends I hope but you don’t have to agree with that description. At least, he isn’t yet but I’m working on that. So I just need time, and to not push his trust.”
Felix looked back up in surprise when he heard the fox talk to him instead of walking away like he had expected him to do. Oliver had seemed so reluctant to say anything so far, the vampire wasn’t sure what had prompted him to try to explain things now. He tried not to let his annoyance show when the pet mentioned his new master, not wanting to make Oliver regret being honest with him but he couldn’t hide his surprise hearing that the master was the reason they couldn’t talk any longer.
“We didn’t do anything,” Felix pointed out, although he knew that the kitsune would’ve told his master that himself. He remembered Oliver saying his new owner was possessive and jealous but the vampire hadn’t been expecting it to be this much. He thought about the fox’s earlier comment that being around Felix was too confusing and knowing the real reason for why they couldn’t talk now, he understood the comment as well. Too confusing for his new master. He understood why, given their past, but it did sting a bit to know that Oliver cared more about the feelings of his new master than Felix’s.
“Do you want me to talk to him?” he suggested. “Maybe if he hears it from me.” While the vampire would’ve preferred to get to be with the fox sexually, he knew that was off the table for a while and he would be okay with promising the other master to not touch his pet. Oliver’s wasn’t his anymore, after all, this was the consequences he had to deal with.
