Hearing Dianna chuckle felt nice and Naya realized that she had missed this more than anything else. She swore she would do anything she could to get a chance to hear this sound again. “Meh, I guess ‘work and kids’ is enough to keep you busy anyway. Especially with four kids.” A part of Naya was glad to hear that the blonde lived a sexless life, and she immediately felt guilty for feeling that way. She had no right to be relieved that Dianna had not replaced her yet, although she couldn’t help herself. She nodded in response even though the movement could not be seen. “I’m not sure drugs are such a good thing, but I can’t really say anything about it; it’s your life, you’re free to live it the way you like as long as nobody’s in danger. As for Simurdermeplease, let’s hope he either gets replaced, fired, or the show stops so that you can be free of him while still doing a job you love.”

To say that the brunette was caught off guard when Dianna cut her off - effectively keeping her from hanging up and, metaphorically, running away from the conversation - would be an understatement. The blonde’s words surprised her even more, although she chose to hide her surprise. “Yeah, of course they care, I simply wasn’t sure that they still knew I existed. Well, I was mostly joking anyway. As usual.” She paused for a while, walking to the bed and sitting on the edge of it, pondering about her choices. She had started feeling better about herself, rebuilding herself, and one relatively long conversation with her ex had been enough to push her back into her old habits. Clearly she was definitely not healed yet. She shook her head at the mention of the twins, smiling at the memory of a freaked out Dianna a few weeks after their birth, while she had the feeling they would quickly be able to tell which one was who. “Yes, I’ve seen pictures of them a… while ago. Looks like they’re going to be as beautiful as their mother.” The actress tensed at the question, a shiver running down her spine. If she had felt ready to get back to California a few days ago, today’s conversation had her doubting herself again. “Um… I dunno…”

Dianna scoffed “Not like I’m doing Cocaine or anything, just some pot here and there. I think it’s better then drinking my sorrows or anything.” She winced, that came out harsher then she meant it. “Sorry, I just...I know I should be-that I have kids now. Fuck.” She sighed. The last thing she wanted was for Naya to think she was a bad parent. She was doing the best she could under the circumstances. Truthfully the words had just eaten at Dianna’s own concerns about her skills at a parent. “That cueball in the yellow hat keeps cornering me and talking about feminism and how great he is at writing females. I feel like he should really go see a doctor and see about getting his head removed from his ass.” She shook her head. “Fingers crossed that happens.”

Dianna nodded, forgetting Naya couldn’t see her. “You always have had a thing for self deprecating humor.” She said softly more to herself then to the woman on the other line. “They keep asking me about you, you know.” That was true, everyone seemed to think Dianna knew more about where Naya was and what she was doing then she actually did. It was one thing for her castmates who both of the women were close to to be asking. But when the press or fans asked her...well she might have a few strong words for them. with the phone in hand she walked down the hallway of the house, peaking in on the girls and Alexander, pausing for a second at the twins room as they talked about them before silently moving on so she wouldn’t wake them. “As cute as the pictures are, they have nothing on the real thing. But of course, you are right. They do have their mothers beauty...both of their mothers actually. I think they look more like you though.” Dianna froze as the question came out of her mouth, feeling guilty for springing it on Naya. “That’s fine...” She said weakly trying desperately to mean it. She fell onto the sofa pulling her legs up an wrapping her free arm around them. “Listen, if you can’t come back here because of me...I’ll leave.”

Hello, it's me~

Naya had left her old life behind a few days after waking up from her forced two months’ comatose state, grabbing her son and dog and driving to the airport. It hadn’t been her usual escape method; this time she had been clear about it and told everyone (well, almost) about her intentions. She had simply needed to disappear for a while. And ‘a while’ had quickly turned into weeks, a couple months, a semester, and finally such a long time that she had lost the notion of the time she had spent abroad. She had visited Europe, traveled from Venice to Vienna to Amsterdam, even Dublin and Barcelona. She seemed restless, incapable of staying in one place for too long, and wanted to go everywhere. Everywhere but Paris. Finally she had settled on London and had been there for… God knows how long. Life felt nice in the British capital and it allowed her to breathe, to forget. To live. She felt like a nobody in the crowds of people who were just like her - nameless people. Nobodies.

“The same old shit? Sea, sex and sun? Or is it drugs, sex and rock n’ roll? Or Polaroids, I never know.” She snorted, then shook her head, half-smiling and biting her lower lip. “Anyway, it’s good to know you’re okay. I uh- how are the twins? And, well, everyone else? It feels like I haven’t talked to anyone in such a long time I’m not even sure they would remember I exist, hah,” she scoffed, “but hey, I only have myself to blame for that, don’t I?” She kept silent for a while after that, reflecting on what she had just said. I’m an idiot. Calling her was a mistake. I was bound to say something stupid. Is it still time to pretend like it didn’t happen and hang up? “So… it must be late and you probably have some important things to do in the morning so… yeah. Sorry.” This apology could be for possibly waking Dianna up in the middle of the night, calling her when the blonde probably didn’t want to hear about her, or maybe for everything she’d done in the past. Naya herself had no idea, but her guess was that it was for all of that and so much more.

Dianna chuckled, imagining Naya’s nose and the cute way it always crinkled slightly when the woman laughed. “More like work, kids, repeat. Way too sexless for the sex drugs and rock n’ roll although I guess two out of three ain’t bad.” She deadpanned. “But I love my job- despite Simurphy, and I love my kids-” Despite the fact one of their mothers isnt here. “So it’s all good.” Okay maybe Dianna was stretching the truth, she did love both of the things, but it seemed like she was slowly falling in to a deep pit, and not the fun rabbit hole type ones that take you away to a magick place. But the depressing metaphorical kind. The only thing that kept her together was her kids, they needed her and she’d be damned if she was going to fuck up any more and hurt them. 

The tension between them only intensified after Naya brought up her leaving. Now that the elephant in the room (on the phone?) had been addressed, Dianna decided that they might as well try talking about it. She recognized what Naya was doing she she tried backtracking, so before the woman could get the chance to hang up on her, she cleared her throat and cut her off.  “People still care about Nay.” A beat. She was going to tell her it wasn’t her fault but the words wouldn’t come out. But even so it was so hard to be bitter at Naya when she was already beating herself up about it. “If it’s what you had to do. Alice and Ana are fine. They are already getting so big. I think it’s easier to tell them apart now they are a little older. Thank fucking god, you know I was worried about that.” She babbled on. When will you be coming hom-ehm back.”

Hello, can you hear me?  It’s around midnight when Dianna hears the phone ring. Rolling out of of bed she picks up the phone and looks at the caller ID, only to be shocked to see a name that hadn’t appeared on her phone for awhile now. Naya. I’m in California dreaming about who we used to be. mm It seemed like years had passed since the, when they were together. Dianna was a different person then. Part of her wished she could go back, but after all the time the two o them spent trying to fix the damages, all the wounds they caused each other, it was apparent that they couldn’t. When we were younger and free, I’ve forgotten how it felt before the world fell at our feet. Picking up the phone she hesitantly spoke.. “Naya….I wasn’t expecting you to call. Um, how are you… “

There’s such a difference between us, and a million miles. Naya had been spending the last months in Europe, far away from LS, from the craziness of her life, but also of the set and Simurphy’s not-so-brilliant ideas, from the cast, her friends, enemies… Dianna. She needed time after everything that had happened, and she had taken it, feeling like she could let herself be selfish every now and then.

She had not checked the time, and since it was the beginning of the afternoon where she was, she had figured it couldn’t be too late on the other side of the world. “Hello from the other side,” she breathed out ironically, certain that Dianna would not be able to hear her. She was actually surprised the blonde had picked up. After all this time. I must’ve called a thousand times to tell you I’m sorry for everything that I’ve done. But when I call you never seem to be home. Or maybe she had actually known what time it would be in California and had still called, hoping Dianna would not pick up.

“I wasn’t expecting you to pick up, hah.” She could not help it, the temptation to mirror her interlocutor’s words was too strong for her to resist it. “I’m good. You?” She did not feel like giving a lot of details, did not feel like Dianna needed them anyway. Or, wanted them. If she was being honest, she just wanted to hear the delicious sound of the woman’s voice.

It had been months since Dianna had seen Naya, and even though they sent some brief contact back and forth about the twins, who were with Dianna, but even then it was too rare a occurrence. All she knew was Naya was in Europe, far far away from Los Simgeles, her, and the life they used to share together. She kept telling herself it was for the best, but really she just felt abandoned (again) and bitter that she was stuck here unable to escape herself.  She tried not to dwell on these horrible feelings, instead distracting herself with work and the children. But even that had painful reminders or Naya’s former presence. Naya had been in every part of the blonde’s life, and the emptiness was still hard to get use to. 

At the sound of Naya’s voice, her heart sped up, all the grogginess pushed aside by adrenaline.  Swearing she heard her say something, she pushed her phone closer into the ear straining to hear every sound. What time was it there? She wondered. So Naya was surprised she picked up, if she hadn’t  said it out loud, her voice would of gave it away. Then again it was the middle of the night here, or did Naya just think that Dianna would purposely not answer. Noticing how vague she was being, Dianna replied equally as vague. Like a child, two could play at that game, if she was going to call and not talk in detail, neither would she. “I’m alright.” Not really, but I’m holding on. “Just same old shit.”
