Surprise! ⁎ Veyle & Zephia
melusinezephyr:
Zephia does not have an answer to Veyle’s question, how she is still alive. For she does not know herself. The mousey Agarthan had never explained how exactly they had brought her here, and as such she didn’t question him. She supposed it was somewhat similar to the ways of summoning Lord Sombron, or anyone else to another world, and had not bothered to think on it any further. But now, she does wonder… what exactly had been the Agarthan’s method to bring her to Foldan?
“I almost certainly did, sweetheart. By all mean, I should be dead. But it seems that some higher being, or even Lord Sombron himself, has had mercy on me.” She doubts that is the case, she does not believe in such religious ideals after all. Her loyalty to Lord Sombron was not the same as worship. She suspects that the fact that she stands here now is more likely an act of science rather than religion.
“As for Mauvier, that boy is here, though he was not at all happy to see me. I suspect he would be much more… pleased to see you though, Lady Veyle.” She clicks her tongue in distaste, knowing that Mauiver would never again return to her side. The closest thing she’d ever had to family, the Four Hounds, were gone now. She would never gain back such love - if it could even be called love - again.
“However, I am quite shocked that you have not directed anger at me, Lady Veyle. Must be quite the testament to your kind heart.”
Zephia does not know how she is alive, and Veyle needs a moment to fully take in the meaning of those words. Up until now, she thought it a domain exclusive to the Fell Dragons - the foul, blasphemous some would say, ability to interfere with the intended rules of life and death. She cannot sense anything unusual from Zephia - none of the disgusting aura emanated by the Corrupted, no other unusual or suspicious power feeding her life force that she is not supposed to have anymore. She feels... normal.
And this normalcy leaves Veyle completely baffled - enough that, though the news about Mauvier’s presence at the Academy gives her a shock, she shelves it away for the time being. She will go and find him as soon as she is done here.
“I... see.” With a wince, she shakes her head. “But whatever it was... I can assure you it wasn’t Papa. You should have guessed... if I’m here, and so are many others from Elyos, then it means we won, and he lost.” She closes her eyes. “Papa is gone, Zephia. I can swear it. I was there.”
And she cannot apologize for what they had done. It was the right thing to do, and she knows it. However much it hurt.
“As for you...” She sighs. “I understand why Mauvier will not forgive you. What you did to Marni... Right in front of his eyes, too. I don’t remember that moment, but I think I can imagine how he must have felt. And that... I will not ask him to forgive you, and I will not forgive, either.” For a short moment only, her voice turns into steel - only to soften again.
“I just... call me naive, if you want. I thought I could put the Hounds behind me, but seeing you here again, I... Deep down, in spite of it all, I still wish to believe that this connection we once had for one another, this bond... that it was real.”
