         SO, FOR WHATEVER REASON that neither of them knew what it was or even had a theory for, he was just… there. after all that time. or, if what she was seeing and hearing was indeed true, he never really LEFT her. she didn’t know why it was so hard to believe in that kind of existence when most people probably wouldn’t believe SHE was real either but it was just… almost too good to be true.

        she watched his hand raising to her face and for a brief moment, she FELT something. him. touching her. it made alice gasp and stare at him in what felt like a PANIC.  ❝ i felt it! i— ❞ he was already explaining himself.  ❝ i still don’t understand. now, out of nowhere, it’s like… like the world is giving you back to me. ❞ or… maybe there was a way for them to truly BE together?

        ❝ what is it like, jas? what or… where you are now. ❞

ITS  A  HARD  QUESTION  TO  ANSWER  ------  where  was  he  . . .  ?         ❛    i  . . .   well.     never  saw  heaven  or  hell  ,  if  that’s  what  you’re  askin’.      i  just  . . .   woke  up  &  knew  i  was  dead.       knew  i  couldn’t  touch  anything.       but  i  could  see  everything.       hear  everything.       i  just  needed  to  find  you.     &&  i  did  ,  first  thing.  ❜

he  leans  back  against  the  wall  ,  if  only  out  of  habit.        ❛      everything  is  just  kinda’  fuzzy  when  im  not  paying  attention.         but  when  i  focus  ,   it’s  not  much  different  from  bein’  alive.     without  the  physical  stuff  ,  anyway. ❜

𝑺𝑯𝑬    𝑳𝑬𝑨𝑵𝑺    𝑰𝑵𝑻𝑶    𝑯𝑰𝑺    𝑻𝑶𝑼𝑪𝑯,    𝑪𝑳𝑶𝑺𝑬𝑺    golden    eyes    for    just    a    moment    as    she    basks    in    his    presence,    in    the    calm    that    washes    over    her.    a    vision    presents    itself    –    the    two    of    them    running    through    the    woods,    grins    on    their    faces    as    they    satiate    their    burning    hunger.    the    nod    is    slight,    though    she    knows    that    jasper    can    feel    it,    can    sense    it    in    a    way    that    no    human    could.    alice    was    beyond    lucky    to    have    him    in    her    life,    to    have    found    him    the    way    that    she    did    –    it    was    potentially    the    only    thing    that    had    kept    her    afloat    for    all    those    years    after    she    transitioned…                ❝    i’m    sure    the    rest    of    our    clan    can    make    do    without    us    for    a    few    days.    ❞                after    all,    the    weather    was    supposed    to    be    gorgeous,    the    perfect    time    for    a    vacation.                ❝    how    i    long    to    feel    the    𝐒𝐔𝐍    on    my    skin    again.    ❞

❛   i  think  they’ll  manage  just  fine.    ❜           he  smiles  &  leans  down  ,  lips  pressing  a  kiss  to  her  forehead  quickly.         ❛    i’m  excited.         i  miss  the  sun.    ❜           he  was  still  so  unused  to  having  to  hide  ,  even  after  all  this  time  with  her.          maria  never  called  for  much  hiding  -----  anyone  who  saw  him  got  changed.           not  the  most  practical  way  of  living   ,    but  he  did  adore  the  sunlight. 

❛   some  time  alone  would  be  nice  ,  too  . . .         m’  tired  of  emmett  interrupting  everything  for  fun.    ❜     how  many  times  had  the  bear  barged  in  when  he  knew  damn  well  what  jasper  was  intending  ?         alice  always  saw  it  coming  ,  so  he  never  actually  got  the  satisfaction  of  pissing  off  his  siblings  ------  STILL.       he  can  hear  emmett  snicker  down  the  hall.

           HIS PROMISE DID NOTHING to change the future she was still obsessing over.  ❝ jas, if we can’t find anything… if i can’t stop that future… ❞ she already KNEW what he would say to that, but she still had to try and convince him.  ❝ i want you to hide. i don’t want you to go back with me. PLEASE. ❞

          even when the wave of calm and assurance washed over her and calmed her down, she still wanted to fall to her knees and BEG him to just do what she was saying.  ❝ i’ll be fine, but i can’t risk losing you. ❞

❛    MARY  ALICE  ------   ❜        full  name  is  drawn  out  as  he  gives  her  a  look.           ❛    if  i  asked  you  to  do  the  same  thing  for  me  ,  would  you  ?     ❜            he  knows  she  wouldn’t  ----  knows  they  won’t  find  a  compromise  where  either  of  them  stayed  away  from  the  fight.          he  takes  her  hand  &   kisses  her  knuckles.           ❛    i’m  the  best  fighter  we  have.          but  i  don’t  think  we’ll  need  ‘t  fight.      even  if  i  do  wanna’  knock  aro  six  ways  from  sunday  . . .     ❜

he  hums  softly  &  laces  their  fingers.            ❛    everything  is  going  to  work  out.      i  believe  we’ll  find  something.         there’s  no  way  ness  is  the  first  &  only  one  of  her  kind.   ❜

         SHE PASSED THROUGH him and her smile faded as quickly as it appeared. of course. this wasn’t a reward, it was punishment. she could SEE him again but nothing more than that. hear his voice but never feel his touch. close and far at the same time. it was what she DESERVED. something befitting of her failures.

        ❝ i don’t understand, how—- how are you here? ❞ it was silly to be so reluctant of such a simple concept, once she really THOUGHT about it. why was it so impossible for ghosts to exist in a world with vampires, werewolves and shapeshifters? ❝ you’ve been with me all this time? even when —- ❞ when chelsea used her ability to sever alice’s ties with the remaining cullens and she went off to join the VOLTURI.

        she was so ashamed. because deep down she knew that if he had been ALIVE at her side, none of it would have happened. the bond she had with him couldn’t be broken.

        his sweet words moved her and made alice step towards him again, calmly this time. she wanted to LOOK at him more. ❝ even with the red eyes? ❞ when they first met her eyes were already GOLDEN, unlike his. not that it changed anything about how she felt so it shouldn’t change for him either. but this was different. her eyes were a symbol of her ALLIANCE. ❝ jas, i… you don’t know how much i have missed you. it HURTS every time, i—- ❞

❛    i  know  as  much  as  you  ------    ❜             he  shakes  his  head  &  shrugs  ,  trying  his  best  to  not  slip  into  depression  while  he’s  here.         she  needs  him  to  be  strong.           she  deserves  a  moment  of  seeing  him  without  it  being  marred  by  sadness.          ❛    but  . . .   YES.      even  then.      they  don’t  blame  you  ,  you  know  that  right  . . . ?     ❜           his  voice  softens  ----  of  course  he’s  watched  over  the  cullens  when  he  could.           

as  she  comes  closer  ,  he  tries  to  really  focus  on  his  presence  ----  tries  to  will  himself  to  be  corporeal  enough  to  touch  her.       ❛     even  the  eyes.         you  didn’t  mind  mine  when  we  met   ,   did  ‘ya  ?     ❜        he  shakes  his  head  &  smiles.          ❛    hey  ------   can’t  miss  me  if  i’m  right  here  ,  can  you  ?  ❜        he  whispers  to  her  ,  as  if  scared  to  disrupt  the  stillness  around  them.           he  purses  his  lips  &  exerts  more  of  his  energy  ,  managing  just  momentarily  to  touch  her  cheek  before  he  once  more  becomes  transparent.   he  sighs  &  offers  a  sheepish  smile.          ❛    i’ll  . . .   i’ll  get  better  at  that.       i’ve  heard  it’s  not  impossible  to  get  good  at  it.    ❜

ALICE  CULLEN 

            SHE WAS HALLUCINATING. she had to be. there was no way that after everything she had done, she would be REWARDED with something like this. not only the love of her life and center of her world was IN FRONT OF HER, defying all the horror she had witnessed, but he looked… different, somehow. less real — more HEALED. 

            and he said her name. he called out to her, asked her if she could hear him and before alice could make SENSE of any of it, she was crying, rushing towards the image, hands begging to feel him again before he VANISHED as suddenly as he had appeared. 

            ❝ jas! jas, is it really you? ❞

SHE’S  COMING  TOWARD  HIM  &&  all  he  can  do  is  reach  out  &  hope  that  his  fingers  will  grace  her  porcelain  skin.           but  when  she  meets  him  ,  she  passes  right  through  him.             his  breath  catches   ,  lips  hanging  open  in  a  dejected  manner.              baby  blue  eyes  close  ,  a  shaky  breath  drawn  in  before  he  slowly  turns  to  her.  

                     ❛    ‘m  sorry  ,  darlin’. . .        guess  i’m  not  as  strong  as  i  thought  i  was.     ❜           

she  could  SEE  HIM  though  ----  that  wasn’t  nothing.         it  took  a  lot  of  energy  to  be  able  to  appear  to  her  ;  he  wasn’t  exactly  surprised  that  he  wasn’t  able  to  touch  her.            maybe  one  day  . . .  

                     ❛    I’M  HERE  . . .   i’ve  been  here  ,  at  your  side  ,  ever  since  -------   ❜ 

ever  since  he  died.       he’d  followed  her  ,  trying  to  reach  out  to  her  &  let  her  know  he  was  there.       he’d  cried  alongside  her  &  wished  to  comfort  her  more  than  anything.      but  his  powers  were  gone  ---  his  presence  no  more  permanent  than  the  wind  blowing  down  these  cold  corridors.        he  bites  his  lip  &  reaches  over  ,  hand  trying  to  brush  against  her  cheek  ,  but  failing.         though  ,  there’s  a  slight  gust  of  wind  that  touches  her  skin.              

                         ❛     you’re  as  beautiful  as  the  first  day  i  saw  you  ,  ‘ya  know  that  ?     ❜

          UNLIKE EDWARD, alice had never really resented her immortality and the ‘perks’ that came with it. but after what she had lost, more than ever, she wished sometimes that she could sleep. maybe the days would be a little more TOLERABLE if she could. maybe she would be able to go one minute without the torture of thinking about jasper. of feeling guilty about the people she had killed since joining the volturi.

          of knowing she could have helped him or at least AVOIDED that future altogether, but she didn’t do ENOUGH. and now it was gospel. it was the present. and she just had to ENDURE. 

          but she was a vampire and as such, she couldn’t sleep. right? because either she was DREAMING, or she was actually seeing her dead husband, standing on the other side of that room, staring at her. maybe she was imagining it. she started slowly walking towards him to make sure her eyes weren’t playing a trick on her, but there he was. exactly as she remembered.

          ❝ it can’t be. ❞

THIS  SHOULDN’T  BE  HAPPENING.        he  shouldn’t  be  here.        he  died.          watched  alice  scream  over  his  body  before  it  was  burned.           &&  yet  ,  he’d  spent  months  trying  to  get  corporeal  enough  for  her  to  see  him.            to  reach  her.               finally  ,  there  she  was  ----  staring  at  him  like  she  thought  she  was  crazy.          she  was  speaking  to  him  directly  &  he  swears  he  can  feel  his  heart  rocket  back  to  life.        

❛    ALICE  ----     ❜              his  voice  is  so  soft  ----  as  if  he  expects  to  not  actually  be  heard.            like  he’ll  upset  the  balance  somehow.          there’s  a  difference  to  his  ghostly  appearance  compared  to  when  he’d  passed.        HE  LOOKS  HUMAN  AGAIN   -----   eyes  blue  &  skin  unmarred  by  scars  &  damage.         ❛   can  you  . . .   can  you  hear  me  ?   ❜

          IF SHE JUST FOCUSED, she’d be able to go through the violent range of emotions she had inside of her. she just needed to concentrate and keep an eye in the future. after edward had mentioned the ticuna tribes in brazil and how one of them seemed to KNOW what he was immediately upon seeing him — and seemed to know even more about the foetus… she KNEW what she had to do.

          and more than that, she knew she couldn’t be there with them when aro arrived UNLESS she had proof that renesmee wasn’t dangerous. unless she could prove to him and his witnesses there was no reason to FIGHT. or she would lose everything.

          when jasper touched her, she immediately stopped her fidgeting to look at him. it HURT even more to see him, FEEL him, knowing what was at stake. knowing what the future could possibly hold. but she also couldn’t lie. she couldn’t keep him in the dark anymore. ❝ i need to tell you something. ❞  

          before she could even get the words out, the emotion showed clear as crystal in her face. ❝ if we don’t convince aro… if he decides he still wants to FIGHT, you— ❞ her voice failed her. tears streamed down her cheeks before she could muster the energy to continue. ❝ you die, jas. and so does carlisle. i can’t let it happen, it would DESTROY me. i CAN’T lose you. ❞

HER  WORDS  BRING  A  SENSE  OF  DREAD  ----  he  expected  it  ,  though.      nothing  upset  the  pixie  usually  ,  but  he  can’t  blame  her  for  this  heavy  wave.               he  swallows  uneasily  &  glances  over  at  the  small  girl.            ❛    i  suppose  we  really  do   need  to  prove  our  case  then  ,  huh  ?    ❜         he  takes  her  hand   &  brings  it  up  to  his  lips  to  press  a  soft  kiss  there.        ❛    you’re  not  going  to  lose  me  ,  alice.          i  promise  you.   ❜

he  silently  thinks  of  their  plans  more  solidly  now  -----  how  hard  he’s  going  to  work  to  make  sure  they  find  the  right  people  to  avoid  this  fight  she  sees.            prove  renesmee  was  safe  &  healthy  &  save  their  family.          hopefully  it  would  help  solidify  the  future  for  her  ---  give  her  some  peace  as  he  projects  the  aura  of  calm  that  comes  from  his  certainty.           ❛  . . .  better  ?    ❜

THERE’S  THIS  LINGERING  FEELING  OF  DREAD  encircling  the  pixie.           he  knows  their  situation  is  rather  dire  ,  but  to  up  &  abandon  their  family  without  a  word  to  the  wise  was  drastic  ,  even  for  someone  as  ostentatious  as  alice.          she  won’t  tell  him  the  truth  ------  WHAT  DID  SHE  SEE  ?          he’s  followed  her  blindly  up  until  this  moment  ----  they’re  sitting  in  their  car  ,  his  hand  resting  on  her  tapping  leg.           he  gives  a  firm  squeeze  as  he  glances  over  at  her.  

❛     ALICE  . . .        how  long  before  i  get  t’  know  exactly  what  we’re  huntin’  for  ?      ❜         his  voice  is  quiet  ,  but  clearly  worried.           as  often  as  he  tries  to  push  a  calm  wave  over  them  ,  something  was  REALLY  dark  on  her  mind.

𝑩𝑬𝑳𝑳𝑨    𝑪𝑨𝑵    𝑺𝑬𝑬    𝑻𝑯𝑬    𝑻𝑬𝑵𝑺𝑰𝑶𝑵,    𝑪𝑨𝑵    sense    the    darkness    in    his    aura    grow.    it’s    the    first    time    that    her    abilities    had    truly    shown    themselves    in    months,    the    first    time    that    she    had    come    across    someone    who    made    her    skin    crawl.                ❛    he’s    not    human,    bells.    you    better    be    careful.    ❜                it’s    the    first    time    that    renée    actually    seemed    to    be    looking    out    for    bella                ( .  .  .    rather    than    consistently    tearing    her    down    .  .  . ),               and    she    doesn’t    take    that    lightly.    she    doesn’t    turn    when    jasper    does,    can    sense    the    eyes    on    her    already,    and    instead    watches    him    carefully.    bella    leans    away    from    the    other,    flinches    when    the    fan    directs    its    way    to    her  :    despite    her    knowledge    of    the    freezing    climate    of    forks,    bella’s    wardrobe    still    only    consisted    of    t - shirts    and    jeans.                ❝    my    dad    lives    here.    he’s    the    sheriff.    ❞

THE  FAN  CAUSES  THE  VAMPIRE  TO  STIFFEN  AS  WELL  ----  if  only  because  it  forces  the  girls  scent  right  into  his  face.          jesus  christ  --  she  was  tempting.          more  so  than  he  was  used  to  enduring.            he  clears  his  throat  &  closes his  eyes  momentarily  ,  trying  to  restrain  his  temptation.           ❛      sheriff  swan  hasn’t  stopped  talking  about  your  arrival  --------  i  just  wondered  if  it  was  . . .   more  than  that.   ❜           shoulders  rise  &  fall  as  he  glances  over  at  the  mortal  girl.          ❛    i’m  sure  he’s  much  happier  with  you  here.    ❜

LYDIA MARTIN 

𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐅𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐄𝐒 𝐀𝐑𝐄 𝐓𝐀𝐔𝐓, expression stretched tight over handsome visage as though her presence causes him genuine discomfort. It’s little alarming, to say the least, both an avid curiosity and a concern for his welfare stifled by her prim manner. That, and the knowledge that he’s unlikely to offer anything honest were she to ask.

❝  I’m sure I know enough about biology to get us through, ❞ sweet vocals respond. She half-glances toward the front of the glass where their teacher lectures, detailing intricate diagrams upon the board. Her attention remains divided though, head tilting again in new partner’s direction. ❝  I’m Lydia Martin, incase you didn’t catch that … What sort of history interests you, Jasper? ❞

❛     THAT  IS  CERTAINLY  A  RELIEF.     ❜          he  tries  to  settle  into  his  seat  more  comfortably  ,  hand  coming  up  to  brush  a  stray  curl  behind  his  ear.             ❛   it’s  nice  to  meet  you  ,  lydia.        how  are  you  enjoying  things  ?     ❜          he  speaks  softly  ,  southern  accent  pronounced  with  his  anxiety.        her  question  makes  him  smile  ------  A  GENUINE  GENTLE  ,  SOFT  SMILE.         ❛    american  history  ,  mostly.        wars.         anything  ,  honestly.    ❜

𝑺𝑯𝑬    𝑪𝑨𝑵    𝑺𝑬𝑵𝑺𝑬    𝑯𝑰𝑴    𝑩𝑬𝑭𝑶𝑹𝑬    𝑯𝑬    approaches,    gets    a    vision    of    his    decision    as    alice    closes    her    locker.    she    can’t    help    the    wide    grin    that    breaks    out    on    her    face,    the    way    her    head    ducks    as    he    leans    toward    him.    in    all    of    the    decades    they    had    been    together,    she    still    never    gets    tired    of    it    –    these    little    moments    that    they    share,    as    if    their    relationship    is    brand    new    again.                ❝    perhaps.    that    depends    on    who’s    asking.    ❞                she    adjusts    the    bag    on    her    shoulder,    reminds    herself    to    keep    breathing    in    order    to    seem    human,    before    standing    up    on    her    toes    to    press    a    quick    kiss    to    jasper’s    cheek.    his    accent    causes    shivers    to    rush    down    her    spine    –    it    had    been    months    since    she’s    heard    it    in    its    entirety                ( .  .  .    much    like    her    own    accent,    the    one    that    she    suppresses    .  .  . ).                ❝    we    still    going    hunting    tomorrow  ??    i    know    everyone    else    just    ate,    but    these    humans    are    becoming    a    little    too    tantalizing.    ❞

❛   WHO’S  NOT  IMPORTANT.     ‘m  just  simple  man  ,  hopin’  to  spend  some  time  with  a  pretty  lady.     ❜             he  hums  &  gently  cups  her  cheek  ,  thumb  brushing  porcelain  skin.          ❛   i  would  love  any  excuse  to  run  off  into  the  woods  with  you  ,  darlin.    ❜                 he  smiles  lazily  &  hooks  a  strand  of  her  hair  away.           ❛   maybe  we  can  make  a  weekend  out  of  it.   ❜

“s/he’s beautiful. i hope s/he makes you happy.”

“i want to believe you, i do.”

“not everyone is going to hurt you.”

“how long will this go on for?”

“you’re making me think that what they told me about you was right.”

ALICE  CULLEN  

dark   eyes   meet   his   own   and   she   smiles   softly,   hand   moving   to   rest   on   the   back   of   his   neck,   fingers   brushing   against   his   curls.   alice   didn’t   know   whether   it   was   their   gifts   or   their   bond   that   made   it   so   one   always   knew   exactly   how   to   make   the   other   feel   more   comforted.   maybe   both.   but   the   way   jasper   is   looking   at   her   now,   she   can   tell   that   he’s   not   upset   at   her   insistence   that   he   work   on   his   control.   “   you   know   i   don’t   need   one.   “   even   with   her   dainty   stature,   they’ve   always   been   equals   in   all   manners   of   their   lives.   she   could   take   him   and   win   at   least   as   often   as   he   could.   it’s   quick,   undetectable   to   the   human   eye,   the   kiss   she   leaves   against   the   corner   of   his   lips.   in   less   than   a   second,   she’s   sitting   in   the   exact   same   position   as   before.   

HER  KISS  MAKES  HIM  SMILE  ,  soft  &  lazy  to  one  side.         ❛   y’mean  ‘cause  i  let  ‘ya  win  ,  right  ?    ❜          he  hums  softly  ,  head  shaking  ever  so  slightly  as  he  gives  her  thigh  a  squeeze.          ❛   what  would  ‘ya  say  to  ditchin’  our  last  few  classes  ?   ❜           he  arches  a  brow  at  her.        ❛    some  good  ole’  teenage  rebellion.         we  can  go  up  t’  the  mountains.         find  a  couple’l’a  deer.    ❜
