A new breed of young women is beginning to dominate Latvian education and society. Latvian young women are trouncing boys in the blackboard jungle, scoring better grades, getting better jobs, and out-earning their young male counterparts. Unconstrained and free to pursue their ambitions and dreams, these women aren’t just equaling men, they are easily surpassing them.

Irish girls work harder and aim higher in school. And the results are in. Academically, girls excel past boys, dominating the exam results so critical to getting into a good university. This dominance extends into postgraduate studies where Irish women outnumber men by 25% and into the prestigious professions such as law, where Irish women now make up the majority. Ireland’s future is female.

The trend is clear, women are rapidly gaining in power. And it’s not a partisan issue as more women are running as both Democrats and Republicans. Female dominance in the classroom is starting to translate in dominance in the workforce, in businesses and now, in politics. Society is evolving and women will one day in the not too distant future wield the majority of power.

CITIES WILL BECOME WOMEN’S PURVIEW

In the September 16 2018 New York times… in the Arts and Leisure Section called Part 3 “The New Season” there is a good article about the rise of women in architecture. I am a male architect and I have very clearly seen the change in gender over the last twenty or so years. In my class there was only one woman architect student out of a class of 40. The Times article indicated that nearly half of all students now are female across America and females make up 40% of those taking the licensing exam. The CEO of the firm I use to work for is now a women and more than 50% of the architects are female while the receptionist is male. The article went on to describe many of the latest large significant projects women are designing and how the number of offices is growing that are run by females. Architecture is a good profession for any one but for women it fits well with women’s natural skill in art, sculpture, beauty and textures. The culture within most firms is progressive treating employees with dignity and equality at least from my experience. It is my prediction that as women continue to gain more of a “foot hold” into this profession it is bound to accelerate. In the future females will most likely be the dominate gender in the architectural field. EDITOR’S NOTE: As with most prestigious professions, all things being equal, the cream rises to the top. Is it any wonder then that women are beginning to excel and surpass men in yet another male dominated bastion? Archaeology, veterinary sciences, medical professions, legal professions all have one thing in common - male dominance has been shattered. Toppled under the weight of ambitious, gifted and hard working women as they pass men by.

Young women now travel more than young men, a significant break with the past. As women surpass men in educational achievement, their independence and mobility has skyrocketed. Young women - free to reach their full potential - now speak more foreign languages, partake in more extracurricular activities, and are overall, more “cultured” than their male counterparts.
