Just finished my first K-drama in less than 36 hours. It definitely was no where near the level of skills I’m used to, in acting, music, special effects, cinematography. It’s definitely not feminist. it’s problematic af actually. But goddamnit, I LOVED it. And I’ll recommend it to everybody!
I’m so fucking sick of this, first they kill off Root [and honestly, that made a lot more sense from a narrative perspective because damnit she was meant to be the Machine but it’s all adding up rn] and I had barely gotten over that and now Poussey is dead? In a terrible, horrifying mockup of a real tragedy? WHY
You didn’t have to kill a black lesbian to make a statement about Black Lives Matter.
You didn’t have to traumatize a pansexual Asian girl for this.
You didn’t have to be this cruel to the intersectional minorities to make a statement you didn’t need to do this shit you don’t need to fucking remind minorities they die or get traumatized because that happens to minorities all the time.
Was it really needed to make Poussey into a martyr. Was it really needed was this shit really needed especially after finally allowing them to be happy. Poussey who has needed happiness for the past few seasons. Brook who almost killed herself last season.
Fan favorite minorities don’t fucking exist for straight white fully privileged fucking fans to feel oh so sad, they exist for minorities to see themselves in.
And fuck Orange is the New Black for ripping that away and damaging multiple communities. Fuck them.
Still thinking hard about this because I just finished the season and I’m reeling from this but I’m absolutely there with qwoc and I’m so sick of how jaded tv shows feel the need to be. Have seen so many posts go on about how this made sense from a writer’s perspective because Poussey’s story was too happy and she had her life figured out the most amongst the bunch. Man, fuck that. They needed to make an artistic statement about Black Lives Matter and they do it by showing that even in this fictional world an untrained, incompetent white officer was not in the wrong because he always tried to be good? And you shift the blame on Suzanne? A disabled black woman? Shit. Fuck that.
I’m glad we got our Poussey smiling shot at the end of the season but ...this just doesn’t feel right.
as soon as claire looked at frank breaking the 4th wall i started scremaing like i knew it was coming i knew she was going to look at me. she looked into my soul and i was ready for the sweet embrace of death thank you mother
President Obama on the Paris attack:
“This is an attack not just on Paris, not just on France, but an attack on all of humanity and the values that we share.”
What are these shared values? Why is this all of humanity and the attacks in other places of the world not? Why is Obama only speaking out about Paris?
We see you, imperialism, we see you and we see how you use this and other tragedy to further a certain kind of humanity, a humanity that is restricted to a few so those outside of this humanity can be killed without it being inhumane.
As an educator, I hate the bell curve system, but I really hate teachers who say, “You won’t get an A in my class.” It’s not just because it causes students to begin the semester with a feeling that they will fail the course: it’s because it is the teacher admitting to their own failure to teach.
We are literally paid to teach a full curriculum. “I don’t give out A’s” to me translates to “I cannot 100% do my job.” There is no reason a good teacher can’t give you an 80-100% understanding of what is in the course. It’s our job to make sure you understand as much as we can.
A class average of 50 is isn’t a statement of how hard the material is. It’s a statement that the teacher cannot complete 50% of their job.
This has some good points, but also some really really bad ones. A low class average is not always indicative of a bad teacher, and can just as likely form as a result of the students unwillingness to do the work necessary to do well. Don’t blame teachers for your inability to apply yourself.
Students!!! are rarELY!!!! LAZY!!!! they are there to learn! Teachers who assume that students are “just unwilling to do work” forget that students are people and most of them have about 258 million outside stresses that are causing them to ignore schoolwork, and! It’s still my job to engage + excite students so they want to do work! nobody wants to do busywork!
And this post isn’t about the so-called lazy people! it’s about the students who do apply themselves and walk into a class and are told to their faces that there is no way for them to totally succeed. Education shouldn’t be like a rigged carnival game!! it shouldn’t be a gamble!!!! i believe in challenging students! I don’t believe in telling them that no matter what, they can’t win!
as for my “why not, it’s their class to teach”
many students rely on merit-based scholarships
SO many students have severe anxiety about grades and you are telling them “i’m going to be the source of many panic attacks”
you are not making them want to work - why bother when they’re incapable of being recognized for it?
students who are already struggling are going to get labelled LAZY and are going to see their grades drop even though they can’t control their ability to learn
just imagine for a second that learning disabled students exist. guess who most frequently gets called unwilling to do work?
IT IS OUR JOB to be the medium between information and the students, not to CRUSH THEIR VERY SPIRITS
ALL IT TAKES IS ONE TEACHER TO RUIN A SUBJECT FOREVER, DO YOU REALLY WANT IT TO BE YOU
Hey I don't follow you but I just wanted to let you know the Anthy thing is very, very intentional and they do go a good direction with it. They eventually break down several different stereotypes of dark skinned women. However, many parts of the show are specifically intended to make the viewer uncomfortable, so please use a lot of discretion and take care of your needs first! (If you want any specific trigger warnings let me know)
Thanks for the message, I’m definitely going to continue watching it. I’m just...particularly disturbed by how everybody is always slapping Anthy around and...nobody else. So she, the only dark-skinned girl on the show, has active physical violence done to her. But if so many people have reached out to me about it, I will give it the benefit of doubt and reserve my critique till I’m done with it!
So I just started the anime because I’ve heard so much about how feminist it is, but unfortunately, straight of, it uses Anthy as an object to be won, a slave for her betrothed. And is it just a coincidence that Anthy’s the only one with dark skin on the show?
I really want to like this, but so far, this is problematic shit. I’ll get back to it when I’ve seen more, but rn, I’m disturbed.
I find Supergirl to be full of mass-consumption-feminism and that annoys the heck out of me. I’m still watching it in the hopes that it gets better and is less in your face about embarrassing shit like why is Supergirl called Supergirl, but for now, I’m massively disappointed in their “feminism”.
A bit random, but I was wondering if you'd check out an award-winning short film about domestic violence that I helped produce; it's the first post you'll see on my tumblr. The film follows a young woman who performs a spoken word poem as a way to reclaim her agency after ending things with a manipulative, troubled man. It's been well-received, with over 6000 notes and almost 8000 views now. Feel free to reblog, but if not, I hope you just enjoy! Lemme know what you think. Have a good one! :)
Hi! I just saw this unfortunately. I’d love to, but could you link me to it since it’s been a while since you sent this/
