Listen. I get why people are all hung up on the technicalities of “BTW” but this is a FANTASY. It’s not based on our reality so by way of logic it would not be based on how time progresses in our reality. Enjoy the show. Revel in its absolute way of making us tune in every Sunday even when we know we will be heartbroken and stfu.

That would be a compelling argument if it weren’t for the fact that the show has also ditched its own internal logic about how that particular fantasy world operates. Game of Thrones was a success because of the fact that it’s very much NOT a “turn your brain off” kind of show. It made you think. And the fact that it is a fantasy does not absolve it from criticism when it breaks its own internal rules.

I’m not sure the show has its own rules to be honest. The books, yes. But the shows creators have shown they don’t care about what’s in the books and at this point they are going off the cuff with everything. It should be interesting to see what Martin does with Winds of Winter.

I think they had rules for the first three seasons and then sense slowly left as they went along, but with those early changes they did make it clear they were more of less doing their own thing (I think Talisa is when that started?). I can understand different fans reacting differently as the show becomes more and more distant from the books. I think I remember George RR Martin saying at some point that he doesn’t want anyone to expect anything like S4 or beyond to happen in the books. Like, someone at a dinner he attended reported that. I agree it’ll be interesting (and we’ll have something to contrast it to.)
