SUN X MOON as the Sapphic ideal in Vedic Astrology?
☼ ☾
Let’s talk about Lesbian pop culture and Sapphic dynamics in art, media and Astrology!
Disclaimer: This is not a breakdown of what nakshatra or sign is most commonly ‘sapphic’ moreso an observation of the most mainstream ‘ideal’ sapphic dynamic referenced in lesbian spaces as a lesbian who is very #tappedin. These aren’t just anything lesbian, particularly lesbian media and pop culture that actually goes viral in lesbian spaces as ‘ideal lesbianism goals’
[070 Shake and Lily Rose Depp]
Solar and Lunar Nakshatras might cosmically create a ‘sun x moon’ sapphic dynamic that accentuates the beautiful polarities that come with a relationship between two women. Even when one isn’t “masc” or one isn’t “femme”, it seems to create a beautiful yin and yang pairing in romantic relations between women that tend to be idolized by lesbians.
In many lesbian films (not always the case), I’ve noticed the Sun character is usually more vivacious, impulsive, and confident in the fact that they are attracted to women, and implores their more sheltered and reluctant lunar love interest to explore their sexuality further.
COMPHET THEORY AND ADRIENNE RICH (Krittika Sun)
What is Comphet? : (the term was coined by lesbian Krittika Sun Native Adrienne Rich. She claims that heterosexuality is compulsory in women. And that women are pressured into being straight by the patriarchy. Hence why many women may live entire lives in romantic relationships with men, and not knowing that they are bisexual or lesbians.
[Soledad Miranda in Vampyros Lesbos]
In ‘Vampyros Lesbos’ the famous Lesbian Vampire seductress “Carmilla” is played by Uttara Phalguni Soledad Miranda.
Carmilla is often credited to be the most classic representation of vampires in art and media, and most classic lesbian rep in this past millennium, even inspiring Dracula himself. The book was written by Sheridan Le Fanu and published in 1872.

Hot Take Time!!!!!!
I do not agree with the interpretations of Sun Nakshatras being ‘male centered’ due to their solar ‘masculine’ principle (I may be biased just because I have been entirely the opposite all my life as a krittika who never got along with men. And who was always critical of my female friend’s boyfriends since I was a child.) BUTTTT i honestly think this is a Hetero-centric interpretation of Sun Nakshatras which I get since most people are straight.
But with solar energy being very common in the most famous sapphic films, I do not think Sun Nakshatras are biased towards any gender at all actually. They can at worst, behave as impassive and detached towards anyone. They act as an effortless, free-spirited “manic pixie / cool girl” to any gender romantically interested in them. And this attribute of sun naks is commonly considered attractive across the sexuality spectrum. Hence why queer women tend to be attracted to the yang energy of these women (ie: sapphic tik tok raving about the nonchalant masc, or the ‘dom femme’.)
If they get along with men, it’s because men are “low maintenance” friends who don’t mind being ghosted every other month, which works well for Sun Nakshatra sensibilities. But I don’t think even in that case, it becomes a dislike for women as an entire gender. Moreso, it is a dislike for traditional friendship expectations, or even patriarchal expectations, including traditional standards of femininity and beauty standards etc which many hyper-feminine women might generally enjoy. Which sun Nakshatras might find too time consuming or restrictive given how vivacious and speedy they are. And therefore not always find common interests with these specific women. But Sun Nakshatras overall seem to have platonic and/or romantic inclinations towards women. Sun Nakshatras are seemingly represented as romantically sapphic (at least bisexual) and drawn towards women and gender-queer people. Or even appreciate femininity in others and themselves, as long as it doesn’t feel restrictive.
In ‘But I’m a Cheerleader’ The Uttara Phalguni Love interest Graham is a more confident self-assured lesbian in comparison to the reluctant hyper-feminine cheerleader main character Megan, who is struggling with comphet.
[Solar Nakshatras are often at the scene of the crime in sapphic pop culture. And Lunar Nakshatras show up commonly as well.]
Regardless of if sun naks are straight or queer, I believe this is a common dynamic they can have with other women. Many times an inspiration and a distant ‘muse’ of independence and freedom for other women. Rather than just a patronizing force of misogyny and condescension towards other women, like how some people interpret on Vedic centric socials. (Although we can see that for some sun naks obviously like Nicki Minaj. I just don’t think it’s inherently a solar attribute)
My Aslesha moon friend who recently came out as a lesbian, told me that she needed a ‘Graham from But I’m A Cheerleader’ (Uttara Phalguni) to come into her life. To ooze out that effortless, ‘cool’ dyke confidence and self-assurance. And that was the most Sun X Moon thing I’ve ever heard!
(Though her sexuality hasn’t been updated since her olympic’s virality, Alysa Liu has had the lesbian flag as her Tik Tok profile picture so it’s widely known she is at the very least Sapphic.)
Even within Lesbian and Bisexual identity. The lesbian flag has been labeled the “Sunset Lesbian Flag” and bisexuality has always been attributed to the moon. So as you can see, Sun and Moon symbolism is very intertwined with sapphic imagery.
Anyway this is my first Vedic analysis. I want to focus on queer media specifically when I talk about astrology in art because it is so under explored. Hope you enjoyed!
[I will probably do a part II because tumblr doesn’t let me post more than 10 photos. But note: Audre Lorde, mother herself, is a hasta! Hayley Kiyoko who is jokingly coined as ‘lesbian Jesus’ by the queer community is stated to be Uttara Phalguni ascendant by a fan who had met her and got her birth time. Leslie Feinberg is sidereal Leo sun. I didn’t mention Leos in this post because I wasn’t finding examples yet.]
Nikki really said “Kill me. This isn’t me, kill me.” And Bear’s reaction was “Is being with me that bad?” and some dudes online are going to defend Bear.
Krittika is often misunderstood due to its connection to the early stages of the Sun’s energy. This nakshatra embodies the shadow period before the Sun fully emerges in its brightness and light, symbolizing transformation through a journey of darkness. This transitional quality gives Krittika a distinctly Lilithian essence, particularly in women who are natives of this nakshatra. Let me explain what I mean.
Krittika is told to also be a representation of Adam, from the biblical mythology of Adam and Eve, but his first wife was Lilith. Both of them wanted dominance in their relationship and Lilith refused to submit to Adam, asserting her own dominance. This marked her exile and brought Eve (which represents Rohini) in as her replacement. However, she was still one of the first with Adam. That being said it would make sense that Krittika also embodies Lilith’s boldness before she was exiled. Producing this dominance within the woman natives.
Lilith is also the representative of the dark feminine and Krittika being the first solar has that dark “shadow period.” This is before reaching purification and radiance—reflective of the dark feminine qualities.
Independent , dominant, and unapologetically unwilling to compromise in partnerships, mirroring Lilith’s assertive and untamable qualities. They’re quite intimidating but at the same time are able to pull others into their magnetic aura. Many Krittika woman are often emboldened to speak their mind and liberate other woman around them. Much like Lilith, they are a commanding presence, balancing the duality of shadow and light within themselves. Krittika’s complexity lies in its layered nature. While its hot energy is often oversimplified or misread, the interplay of shadow and transformation reveals a nakshatra of profound depth and strength. This makes Krittika powerful yet misunderstood.
i see some people worried that obsession will sideline nikki's true feelings & the fact that she's been turned into an unwilling puppet for a man's pleasure, in favor of just doing cheap yandere scares. n focusing on what's creepy To Men.
pleased to report the film is Very Fucking Aware that this is a horror movie for nikki as well. and that i'm so haunted by her storyline i.... want to write fanfic.
That moment where Nikki tells Bear that she's writing a love story that isn't a romance, and he doesn't get it. Can't recognize the difference between the two things, and the way it dooms them all. ugh. UGH. NOBODY TOUCH ME
Lesbian writer Monique Wittig who claimed “lesbians aren’t women” and the many feminist theorists who claimed that lesbianism exists on such a separate plane of feminine experience, were onto something about the lesbian perception. Because for fucks sake does it make most things so unrelatable. And in every community.
When women say, “I hate <insert archetype of woman here>” and “<unlock your divine feminine by avoiding looking like this!>” I literally roll my eyes because I can tell they’re thinking of someone that did them dirty. Betrayed them. Talked behind their back. Or stole their man. And oh my god I don’t care. I know lesbians of all shapes and sizes, all aesthetics and archetypes, and I love all of them.
My brain is fried every time people on Vedic twitter get into the “feminine Nakshatras” vs. “masculine Nakshatras” and my nak (krittika sun) is the one who shows up for “masculine / tomboy girls” because in a sense, I do think astrology will reflect perception. And I do think lesbians are very masculinized regardless of presentation, and that’s mostly due to lesbiphobia and the mainstream proximity of feminine submissiveness to patriarchal dynamics and rewards. But I am very feminine and submissive as a krittika (granted I’m also a Dhanishta ascendant) and have been all my life, and consistently, and always will be. Even when it was trendy to hate pink and claim you were special for not liking it, I was the girl dripped down in all-pink and rhinestone tiaras.
It’s also interesting that Claire excluded us from the MDPG video, because relating to this perception, I’ve been looked at by men as a mpdg from a distance because I never allowed them to come any closer than that…
(And I relate to fellow Whimsical krittika moon, Tiara wearing Icon Kitty Lever)
Yet I 100% agree with the exclusion of krittikas from that video. Cause baby I am a Taurus. I want to be spoiled rotten. If anything, I am the Manic Pixie Dream Girl’s, Dream Girl. The other Sun Nak girls are the ones giving me princess treatment all the time and that’s why I fw them heavy.
These krittikas are like “why weren’t we included” because be honest. The fact of the matter is. “Dream girl” attention from men always made me uncomfortable. I always started behaving like a monkey when I found out they had a crush on me. And I would become very mean to them. In fact, I was sent down to the main office for being mean to men in highschool. I didn’t want to even be nice to them for a moment. Nor vanish like the Manic Pixie Dream Girl. They weren’t allowed my presence for very long. But I do remember that I wanted special women to think I was special. All the time.
lol I think krittika keeps their sunlight to themselves. 🎀
Feminine Archetypes Through the Planets in Vedic Astrology Pt 4!!
(Sun Nakshatras)
Ah! The long awaited, last pt of the Madonna trilogy of my Feminine Archetypes Series!! I don't want to waste to much time so lets get into it!!
DISCLAIMER: this is just my opinion, this is a generalization and not meant to target anyone in particular, this is for anyone who identifies as a woman or femme presenting, if that's not you, feel free to skip this read! Also, when I say Madonna vs Whore I'm not referencing anyone's sexual activity, orientation or preferences, I am ONLY using it in the psychological profiling sense of does this person possess what is considered status quo (Madonna) or go against that (Whore).
Here are the charts referencing how I came up with each archetype and their relationship to the Madonna-Whore Complex & below is the link to my first post in this series giving an introduction and more context to all of my posts on the subject so far.

SUN - THE MANIC PIXIE DREAM GIRL
(Krittika, Uttara Phalguni & Uttara Ashada)
MPDG for short. So, before I get super into Sun dominant femmes, I want to kind of back-track and talk just a teensy bit more about Mercury (lmao, I know, so on brand for Mercury to keep talking lol).
I just want to differentiate Mercury a little bit more from the Sun and the Moon, and what kind of role they play in the evolution of the Madonna, especially differentiating from the Sun as I honestly think a lot of Mercury doms get mistaken for MPDGs until guys get a closer look.
I want to briefly mention Claire Nakti's videos on Sun dominant women purely just to say that I think she really did capture the essence of the MPDG and personally I do think it tracks with the Sun dom femmes that I've known personally (Two of my best friends at one point, one of them was a Krittika Sun, Uttara Ashada Moon and the other was an Uttara Ashada Sun, Uttara Phalguni ASC, had men liken them to classic MPDGs Ramona Flowers, Rory Gilmore and Penny Lane and had that same electric energy to them as seen in a lot of those movies and shows). By capture I mean this essence of fluttering into one's life then fluttering right out once the relationship has run its course.
Claire Nakti also noted that the planet in men that seemed to fall for these doms the most were Mars men, as this planet is one of the most confrontational planets on the matter of existence and what is more life-affirming than the Sun? I bring this up in relation to Mercury and the rest of this post because I think a lot of Mars men (and other kinds but for now just Mars) see Mercury and think they are Sun femmes.
Mercury & Sun femmes are two sides of the same coin. Both are fluttery, both are captivating in a contradictory and mysterious way, both are un-afraid of confrontation. So I see why a lot of Mars men flock to these women, however only Sun femmes spark life into these mens' hearts.
This isn't a good or bad thing, I've said in past posts and I will keep saying it because it's incredibly important to me to make sure anyone reading these posts understand that the purpose of these posts isn't to prove who is a better woman/femme or how to get the kind of man you want's attention by pretending to be something you're not. It's also not to punish any particular planet, end of the spectrum or archetype for any particular reason. I love women and femmes, I want femmes to succeed, I believe in the "Divine Feminine" not the "divine" Feminine (please read my last post to understand that reference). Besides, there are so many types of men out there, just because one particular brand of man likes one particular brand of feminine doesn't mean that that is the end all be all of attraction and peak femininity. I really believe there is someone out there for everybody.
Anyway, I bring it up, again, because in order to really differentiate Mercury from Sun femmes in this evolution of the Madonna, I feel like I need to talk about how Mars men react to the two. So, before, I mentioned Claire Nakti's take on Mars Men being existentialists, confrontational towards existence and I also find this extremely relatable as all of the Mars men I have gone out with thought they were Albert Camus or Plato (two out of the three actually siting Camus as their favorite author/philosopher) and what's more life-affirming than the Sun, the thing that literally gives life on earth. So why are we talking about Mercury?
There's this famous saying by Friedrich Nietzsche "if you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you" and I feel like that is exactly the kind of dynamic Mars men and Mercury femmes have. Both Mars and Mercury like to ask questions, the only difference is (mostly when the debate is between a masc Mars and femme Mercury, I've known plenty of Mars femmes who are wonderful to engage in conversation because they ask as many questions as I do and there's no ego involved, but with masc Mars...) Mars wants to conquer, they want to confront.
Obviously, not all men 🙄, but a lot of Mars men like to test their mates. They're the kinds of guys that like to tease and poke and chase and at their worst - they neg. They ask questions not for the pure pursuit of knowledge (like Mercury) but because they want to prove a point to you, they must prove that they know better than you, that their manhood is secure in your presence (one of my Mars exes [Mrigashira Moon] literally told me to never correct him ever when I pointed out that he had made a mistake in one of his long-winded and what he thought was well researched lectures on something that I already agreed with. I promise this isn't a Mars man bashing post lmaoo). But Mercury... Mercury is going to ask questions as to why you feel that way. How did you come to that conclusion? Mercury might even point out that the way you've thought or the things that you've believed are fundamentally wrong. Mars has been defeated.
Mars can be incredibly emasculated by Mercury, especially considering how cynical Mercury can be (if you look at my archetype chart, which I think can apply to men and women as far as psychological profiling [not necessarily the names], Mars still operates emotionally under the Madonna. Men whose minds operate under the Madonna tend to possess very puritanical or "traditional" beliefs, at the very least only pursuing opportunities that they think align with their beliefs. But Mercury's mind of course operates under the Whore). Mercury looks like how Mars feels on the inside and vice versa (I've seen plenty of Mercury women fall for Mars men, myself included, because they look like the Whore, they look like how we feel on the inside), only to realize the other person is the complete opposite of you and who you thought they were.
But Sun femmes are different. They look exactly the way Mars men feel, but Sun femmes are smart enough to walk away after a while. Sun femmes occupy the last stage in the evolution of the Madonna because they've learned to balance the Madonna and Whore within them. They can't change the way they look, they can't help it if men are charmed by their implied neurodivergence, but they can control how they let these men affect them. Moon femmes seem to use their projected selves to their advantage, Mercury seems to fight it with everything they can, Sun femmes just simply walk away when they know it's not working anymore. That's the power of a Mother mind.
It also explains why Sun femmes can remain so warm after being so grossly misjudged and in a lot of cases taken advantage of, turning it into something meaningful and transformative (Fiona Apple Uttara Phalguni Sun and Moon, taking her abusive relationship with Paul Thomas Anderson and turning it into one of her most popular and highly regarded albums that still to this day brings comfort to millions of women and femmes).
They know it's not personal. I feel like it's also important to bring up again the purpose of the Sun. The Sun is representative of ego, it's how we see ourselves. Sun femmes know exactly who they are and they don't need anyone else to tell them that, they especially don't need anyone trying to change or "fix" them. Sun femmes know they have the power to define their own story, which is probably why they disappear from so many others'.
I want to quickly talk about the concept of "being perceived", I think it's a really scary phrase for many reasons, but I think for most of all because no matter how amazing, good, interesting, smart, talented a person might be, there is still always a chance that someone out there might not like you for any one or all of those aforementioned qualities. And unfortunately, I think Sun femmes are at the most risk of being perceived. The Sun is the brightest star in our solar system, it's also burning the most energy and one day it's going to burn out, shrivel up and die and everything as we know it will die with it.... Not to be bummer or anything lmao
But relating that to Sun femmes, I think they feel that more than anyone. They understand more than anyone that one day we are all going to die so might as well live while we can, right? And unfortunately I think this endearingly positive sentiment attracts an insane amount of attention and sometimes they don't know what to do with it, especially if the native is actually quite introverted (Fiona Apple, famously disappeared at the height of her career to take a break from fame, she's also stated many times in interviews that she is incredibly shy, often dealing with social anxiety and the fear of being perceived. Many other Sun dom celebrities, especially women are extremely private, Emma Watson, Uttara Phalguni ASC, another great example of a Sun femme who is extremely private with her life, also stepping back from the limelight at the height of her fame. Zooey Deschanel, triple Uttara Ashada, is currently engaged, stating "they just want an intimate wedding with guests who really care").
Sun femmes, especially from the perspective of Mars men and MPDG movies and shows, appear to only float in and out of people's lives when it's necessary for the protagonist to come to a life-changing revelation, but I think when we stop focusing on ourselves so much (ego) we realize that Sun femmes are very much real people (as are all femmes, just stick with me lol). I think the difference between them Mercury femmes are that Mercury has yet to integrate and master the idea that it's not personal. Sun femmes realize from an early age that people are going to judge them, people will stare and point and misread them but none of how other people perceive them is going to define who they are deep down. They know who that is, they were there when they used to run up and down the jungle gym really fast and jump off, catching just enough air for a couple extra seconds to feel like they're flying. They were there when they cut up all of their socks and made glittery, sock bunnies with the bluest blue buttons you could find because she just felt like making something. Mercury doesn't usually think about those things, they have tendency to forget, worrying about everyone staring at them and how everyone feels about them staring right back.
I say Sun femmes are really real people because at the last stage of the Madonna, she has found a way to cope with the pressure of being perfect while never apologizing for being imperfect. Sure, it's an immense burden to walk around knowing that that's how people feel about you, but if they can enjoy themselves for the time being before they have to move on to the next thing, it's worth the risk.
I think society gets so caught up in the ego's need for control (over our image, our careers, our relationships) that we forfeit the right to actually wield that kind of power that comes with possessing it. It's in this zen, go-with-the-wind attitude that ironically grants us the most control over our lives. I guess in that sense Sun femmes are very in and out of people's lives, so at peace with everyone else's and their own ego, that their mere presence feels profound. You will always remember and contemplate on your time with Sun femmes because of how sure of themselves they are. Of course, this can lead to, similarly with Moon femmes, an over-pedestaliazion, constantly being referred to as the one that got away or the first love, which is why I put them in the Madonna umbrella Archetype, but they are very far from something to inspire change without consequences.
I've known a lot of Sun femmes, like Sun celebrities, that have disappeared after sustaining an abusive relationship, after being bullied in high school, who mourn lost friendships, who yearn for true connection and authenticity when interacting with people. I think Sun femmes can be quite sentimental, living with their battle scars, silently and with grace, waiting for someone to see those scars for what they are rather than a metaphor for something grander. But overall, Sun femmes live the lives they choose to live, they are quietly independent, going against the grain especially when no one is looking. To me, they are an inspiration, not because of their quirky exterior but because of their resilience and the ability to bounce back, to choose themselves every time over what others expect of them. I admire their security in their identity and self, something that I can't say I've ever experienced on that level (to the point of taking the consequences of standing up for one's self without even flinching). That takes courage, that takes smiling even when no one else has the balls to.
Yayyyyy!!!! I'm so glad I got through the Madonna trilogy!! I love all of my Madonna girls, you guys are awesome!! I can't wait to start on the Whore 😈😈😈😈 lmaoo This is so much fun, I love dissecting everyone hehehehe Thank you guys again for all of your support, I had no idea people would relate so much!! But I'm glad you guys can find something in my ramblings lol It might be a while until I post the next trilogy cuz I've been pretty busy but I'll try to get it out soon!
is that people often take nakshatras’ major associations and stick with assumptions based on those associations.
Probably the most glaring example of this is how people look at Krittika, see that it’s associated with the Sun, and then listen to Cholera Nakti saying that it’s the “birth of the masculine principle”, and then assume that Krittika women as a trend are manly.
But you’ll see that Krittika women in general are some of the most stereotypically feminine beings around. Don’t forget Krittika is the birth nakshatra of the Moon.
I want to bring awareness to this because many don’t seem to observe the actual natives of the nakshatras and go off of textbook definitions.
These don’t work.
PS: To be clear, there is nothing wrong with making generalizations about nakshatras. They just have to be grounded in reality.
