❝That’s what I was afraid of…❞
He’d already figured out that this so-called ‘social experiment’ was something that was done for a purpose, whatever that may be — It had been his hope that some of the persons that made it to this city would band together, attempt to do the responsible thing and look after the welfare of the others that were forced from their homes…even attempt to figure out a way to leave this place behind. Perhaps that was too much to ask.
❝Yes, I’m from Konoha.❞ Minato glanced at the other’s forehead protector, sharp gaze sliding down to take in those obvious markings once more. ❝If I may, are you a member of the Inuzuka clan…? It’s odd. I’ve met several others from the village…but their identity escaped me, despite their familiarity. I wonder why that is?❞
Suspicion had long ago made itself known, but his face remained open and his voice friendly, not giving away his current ‘confusion.’
「₪」—» The itch of familiarity was driving Kiba insane. It was there. This man's scent was something the shinobi had smelled before, and his face was something Kiba could almost pinpoint. He squinted, not even trying to hide his frustration at trying to figure out just who this person was. He never forgot a scent, not once he'd caught it, so to have this weird sensation of almost knowing was disorientating. He knew with just a little bit of concentration, he could place it...
And then, suddenly, he did.
" Wait... you're... the Yondaime Hokage...? " Now that it had clicked in Kiba's mind, it was obvious. He'd seen that face, far-away and cracked with the Edo Tensei, and on the stone Hokage monument his entire life. As for the scent, it was similar to Naruto's, and Kiba had caught it before during the war, albeit a warped version of it. This was... Naruto's dad. It took a few moments of surprise blinking before the other's words actually registered, and by then Kiba was almost stuttering. " Y-yeah, I'm... Inuzuka Kiba. " A pause as the teen squirmed a little with discomfort. " I was born... right before you died. "
"And just what makes you think I’d tell you? Would you even care? I’m sure most of you see me as a traitor still, regardless of what happened to me in this city. If I told you, I’d just have to deal with more than I’m already dealing with. If you want to know, go ask Sakura."
He honestly had no interest in making sure that anyone knew what happened to him. He didn’t need their pity for what had happened. He didn’t care about the relief they might have in knowing that he wasn’t going to turn against them without provocation. He didn’t need all of them breathing down his neck anyway. He also didn’t need them saying things like it served him right for all he’d done. He was feeling enough guilt from the realization of how Sakura felt without them piling more on. He wanted to move on and having the different ninja from Konoha treating him with pity or teasing him was less preferable to skepticism and anger.
"Anything else?”
「₪」—» The heavy weight of confusion fell onto Kiba's shoulders as a frown curved the line of his mouth downward, head tilting slightly in a canine-like way of curiosity. First, the odd behavior. Now, Sasuke was talking about being viewed as a traitor. And while it was true that yes, Kiba had viewed the raven-haired shinobi as a traitor for many years, enough so to agree to killing him, it was not true that the same could be said of now. With the war, the accusations and crimes of turning traitor had been dropped at Naruto's wish, and in acknowledgment of the things Sasuke had done to save the shinobi world. So now, him talking of being traitorous just made the Inuzuka frown, dark eyes easily sliding from suspicion to something like exasperation.
" I'm not asking Sakura. I'm asking you. If I wanted to know what Sakura knew, then I would ask her. But I want to know what you know, so I'm asking you. What are you talking about, anyway, me seeing you as a traitor? The war cleared that up, didn't it? If the village hadn't recognized your efforts in saving everyone, then I would be trying to kill you right now. " A pause. Was there anything else? Oh, yeah. " And what happened to your rinnegan? "
「₪」—» You leave your sector for five minutes and this happens.
「₪」—» What was wrong with this place.
I was a bit disappointed by Kiba in the last chapter, acting all grumpy toward Akamaru because he’d become old. But I like to think that Kiba feels guilty about it and that he apologizes to Akamaru when they’re alone. Of course Akamaru’s like “dude, all’s forgiven. I know you love me more than anyone else,” because dogs are like that. They can forgive you for anything.
I also think that Kiba has moments when he gets incredibly sad watching Akamaru deteriorate like that. Thinking about his buddy trying, and failing, to keep up when they’re out during the day. He’ll snuggle up against Akamaru on his pillow, bury his face in Akamaru’s fur and cry because he doesn’t know how long he can feel his best friend’s warmth like this.

You open your door to find a bundle of birds of paradise flowers! along with the flowers is a card that reads:
TO: Kiba Inuzuka
FROM: Shino Aburame
Try not to ruin them.
「₪」—» Dark eyes skim the card tucked into the bundle of the rather spiky but eye-pleasing flowers, a small and slightly exasperated smile touching Kiba's mouth. Really, Shino could at least leave a message that was nice. Still, the bundle of flowers was scooped up and placed in a coffee cup filled with water and set next to the flowers Hinata had sent him. Maybe not the best accommodations, but hey, it would work.
Shino better appreciate that Kiba sent him flowers, too.
[Pops a flower crown on him and Akamaru] "Happy Valentine's Day~~"
「₪」—» And cue one startled Inuzuka and one startled ninken. The scent of flowers is sharp, and two pairs of eyes blink at Ino with equal tinges of surprise. But this lasts only for a second more before a smile breaks on Kiba's expression.
" Happy Valentine's Day, Ino. "
You open your door to find a carefully wrapped single camellia, wrapped in a red bow! Along with the flower is a card that reads:
TO: Kiba Inuzuka
FROM: Sakura Haruno
Here’s for trying to help me out during the auction, you really did try your best and I appreciate it.
「₪」—» Pink tints bloomed on Kiba's cheeks as he stared at the flower left at his doorstep, the pastel hue making the red slashes look even more defined. He knelt, picking up the camellia with gentle fingers and inhaling. It smelled sharp and green, lingering with the scent of who he supposed had delivered it. A quick skim of the card attached made the pink on his cheeks deepen, mumbling in slight embarrassment.
He'd have to thank her later.

for my buddy, who just caught up with the manga
congrats dude (☞゚∀゚)☞
"So, Sakura didn’t send you. That doesn’t answer my question. What do you want?”
If he wanted a shot at him while he was weaker, now would most likely be the time to do it. He figured most of the people that came from Konoha might want to try their luck against him. But most of them wouldn’t have much luck, honestly. He had all he needed to fight effectively. It was just a matter of fighting smart. His eyes watched Kiba cautiously, gaze drifting to the dog that was ever-present at his side as well. He’d heard them talking about him not long ago, back during the auction. He didn’t care about clearing the air. They’d think what they wanted to. He wasn’t about to tell any of them the hell he’d gone through. They could go to Sakura if they wanted that.
「₪」—» Eyes narrowed at the tone of the other's voice, head tilting slightly as Kiba once again scanned the familiar features that Sasuke bore. He had to say, the absence of a smoldering hate in his eyes did make him seem just the barest bit friendly, although you had to look to see it. Even without the obvious rage, Sasuke was still Sasuke, and he had always had a cold exterior that warned others to stay away. Still, to Kiba, someone who had known the other shinobi since childhood, the change was shocking. It made the Inuzuka relatively uneasy, and he once again found himself wondering how in the world this could be the Sasuke he knew. Well, he guessed the only way to find out would be to answer the question the other pose with one of his own.
" I want to know what happened to you. " An innocent enough question, if one didn't know the weight behind it.
"Yeah, good luck with that, Kiba. We barely have any of our usual powers," Ino informed him, but not unkindly. She knew that the dog trainer would rather be tearing through forests and burning energy on missions than lounging around a crowded metropolis like Hive City.
"Ah.. you’re in the shopping district! I’m so jealous! I’ll come visit you soon!"
「₪」—» An annoyed look passed over Kiba's face at the mention of their stripped jutsus, mouth tight with a frown. He didn't have to be reminded of the fact that they only really had their physical abilities to rely on now; it only put him in a bad mood. At the exclamation from Ino, however, the shinobi gave a roll of his eyes.
" A lot of good shopping's going to do me. Just a lot of distracting smells and noise. "

"Your manner of dress is strange to me.”
Not that she usually cared about such trivial things, but to her, it looked like he was wearing a costume. She’d found that to be the case with many of the residents she’d run in to, but this was a special case — namely because he resembled a ninja. Given the odd assortment of people here, though, she’d not be terribly surprised to learn he was one. That still felt ridiculous to ask, so she tiptoed around it.
“Are you a warrior of some kind?”
「₪」—» Dark eyes glanced down at Kiba's usual outfit, finding the familiar shinobi outfit he always wore. A little worse for wear, but still clean. It seemed perfectly normal to him, being surrounded by similar-looking outfits his entire life, but it was only now occurring to him that his clothes might be a little strange for this place. He hadn't seen anyone else wearing something like it besides his own friends, and now the question posed made him think a little.
" I'm a shinobi. " Well, there was no need to hide it. " Are my clothes weird or something? "
feralestic liked this for a starter !
❝Pardon me?❞ Yet another oddly familiar face…Those peculiar markings struck a chord, but his curiosity had to be placed aside in light of his current quest. ❝Do you happen to know where the center of the city is…? There must be some form of government here, correct? I’d like to fix this error and return home as soon as possible, so I’d appreciate any help you can provide.❞
「₪」—» Curious eyes and sharp noses assessed the stranger, the attention a mix of human and canine as Kiba and Akamaru listened to the questions posed their way. They were the general questions of new arrivals, nothing to be so surprised about. It was, however, the person asking them that was the cause of the pair's curiosity. The face staring back at Kiba looked... familiar, although he couldn't quite place it, and the scent the stranger gave off was also something he almost recognized. It brought a dumb smile and blonde spikes to mind, but that was ridiculous.
" There is no government here... " Well, at least no official one. " 'Fraid you're here on purpose, too. We're all here on purpose, though no one's stopping you from looking for a way out. " A slight pause, the curiosity in the Inuzuka's eyes brimming, before a light tap was given to his forehead protector and a finger was pointed at the blonde's. " You're from Konoha? "
