Read your dialogue aloud.

If it sounds awkward when spoken, it'll probably sound awkward to readers too.

Natural dialogue should sound like real people talking, not like a dictionary.

A beta reader is NOT the same as a proofreader.

A beta reader asks: • Does the story make sense? • Are the characters believable? • Does the pacing work? • Are there plot holes?

A proofreader looks for: • Grammar • Spelling • Punctuation • Typos • Consistency

Most books benefit from both.
