ACTIVE WARNINGS: child death, dismemberment, murder
To further spread my Melvik(gonna start calling em eclipsemages actually-) propaganda, here are some headcanons:
(these are all over the place. Also these are probably not gonna be accurate to them but it's a ship b/w 2 people that have interacted twice in the source material give me a break.)
Both Mel and Viktor are absolute workaholics, but Viktor is so so much worse. It's not uncommon for Mel to drop by to make sure he eats and sleeps and has done all the basic human necessities he forgets about.
She always brings some food with her though because she wants to be ready for when he hasn't eaten.
Viktor always huffs, "Do you have no faith in me?" but he not-so-secretly loves it.
She always keeps an eye on him too, stepping in when she thinks he’s pushing himself too far.
It goes both ways though.
After a particularly stressful meeting with the Council, Mel desperately needs a break. Viktor invites her to his lab for a quiet evening. It's just the two of them sharing a moment of peace as they talk about non-work related things: the weather, old books.
It’s a chance for Mel to relax without the weight of her responsibilities.
---
It's also not uncommon to Mel to sneak up behind him, often to kiss him on the cheek.
It should not take Viktor by surprise as often as it does.
She teases him about it, and Viktor feels get very red, very quickly. Mel laughs, and it’s the softest, most genuine sound he hears from her.
He loves it.
She kisses him again when he pretends to grumble about it.
---
Viktor's love language is acts of service and Mel's is quality time and they contradict each other quite a bit.
Sometimes when Viktor shows his love language by taking care of things—fixing something for her or helping with her work—Mel sometimes doesn't recognize it as an expression of love.
She mostly wants his emotional presence, wanting him to be with her properly in those rare moments they have together.
It's confusing and irritating for both of them.
Over time, though, they begin to meet halfway; Viktor starts finding ways to be more present in the moments Mel needs him, while Mel learns to appreciate Viktor’s acts of service as a form of love, because she knows he puts so much of his time and care into it.
There's more I'll write later so this is just part one.
