Are we worried about being killed off? It seems like television likes killing off lead characters at the moment. If you get a good death, it’s all right.
“Ai laik Heda. Non na throu daun gon ai.”

Dahlia tilted her head curiously at the girl’s words. She turned away, looking forward as she thought through them. “When I’m here, all I want is the wild. Living off nothing, feeling unconfined. But when I’m out there, I feel…insecure. In ways I never used to but uncertainty has a way of generating paranoia,” she admitted. She had been robbed of her security in the woods, on her own, by Theo amongst others. It was why she came and went repeatedly, never able to walk away from Covaire but still taunted by the life had always craved. Forever a nomad. “What wouldn’t I embrace? What do you think?” she asked curiously.
There had been wolves like her while Gaia was growing up, those who sought out the pack thinking that wolf blood was all they needed to be wild only to find out that it wasn’t quite that easy. Most just ran back to civilization, learning their lesson and giving up the fight. Some, a minor few, chose to stay, letting the wild destroy them. She didn’t want to see that happen to the woman in front of her. “You can’t control the wild. Sometimes it hurts. Sometimes it doesn’t. Food runs short and animals tear each other apart. It floods and things you love get washed away. Nature defines everything you do. I don’t think you could let yourself feel that helpless.” It was a freeing type of helplessness, but not one that everyone could handle.
As she fumbled over the words, she could see that it was a wasted effort. But now it was principle for the damn word. Her attempt, though, it brought a laugh out of Harper before she waved her hand at her. “You’re not missing much.. it’s just a circle.” For some reason, she just couldn’t let the whole merry-go-round thing go. When the conversation switched, she saw the reaction on her face and regretted asking asking out right. She gave the other wolf a nod, one of complete understanding. Aside from having some still out there, she knew where the girl was coming from. “Sorry,” she muttered under her breath.
A circle -- or a horse tornado -- seemed a strange thing indeed, but Gaia supposed there were plenty of things she would never understand. It was a side effect of the way she was raised, but more than worth the beauty of being able to be a real, truly wild wolf. Of course, as the brief retelling of her story reminded her, that wildness seemed like a distant fairy tale. “When I leave Covaire, I’ll save the rest of my pack,” she said, voice quieter than usual. “I can’t be the only one still alive.” Of course, that depended entirely on her surviving long enough to find freedom and with the way Dias’s violence had been intensifying, she wasn’t sure how much of that idea was unattainable anymore.
Dias rolled his eyes at her answer, of course she would disagree but she didn’t understand and he couldn’t explain it but it was definitely not pouting. He let his ever growing hair fall into his face as he nudged her again, a smile present on his face, “I’ve never lost a war…unless you count Nam but I don’t. My squad got the job done.” Dias nodded his head curtly before nudge her again then moved back with his hands kneading the grass while digging his fingers into the dirt as well. “I’m beginning to think you trick them into liking you better….some how.” The smile was still present as he wrapped his hand around the mud and slung it at her.
"First time for everything.” His war stories were still fascinating to her, but it wasn’t the time for that. This little war between two boys, one significantly more bratty than the other, wasn’t destined to draw unwilling blood. At least, she was fairly certain hat he wouldn’t get that reactive over a dog that he had brought home. “Maybe it’s the collar.” The three of them -- her, Zeus, and Crixus -- were all pets to some degree, even if their situations varied greatly. When the mud struck her, she jumped mostly out of surprise before turning to him with a playful curl to her lips. Her own fingers curled into the wet earth beneath her, pausing only a moment before returning the favor as she hurled mud right back at him.
“I resent that statement. I’m over a century old. I do not pout like a child.” Dias shook his head, “I feel overwhelming, depressing disappointment.” Though, he was certain that she was right but he would dare admit that out loud. Gods couldn’t be pouting children, it contradicted itself. He watched her pressing closer to the dog and he leaned in and nudged her shoulder with the top of his head then, to prove his maturity, mocked her words with an incredibly high pitched voice. “I won the fight in the wild.”
“You do,” she said bluntly, though the amusement hadn’t left her face. When his possessiveness wasn’t manifesting in horrific violence, she didn’t mind it and perhaps even encouraged it. Maybe she liked the idea of him feeling the need to prove himself and the idea of him wanting her attention so badly. It was only when those feelings morphed into something terrible that she was forced to face the darker side of their situation. “Win the battle, lose the war,” Gaia teased as she felt him nudge her shoulder, bright green eyes moving to look over at him.
He moved to sit down on the ground and watch her, then put his focus on the dog as he got on all fours and carefully nudged it with his face. “I’m stronger though.” Dias nodded his head, she was teasing him and he knew that but it was still a valid point that needed to be made. “Are you going to like this one better than me too?” He looked at her suspiciously before a grin spread across his lips on that was mischievous with a childish glint in his eyes. Dias then moved toward her, circling around her and the dog but all of his attention was focused on hers. “Who do you think would win this competition?”
The naturalness of both of them being on the ground with the dog felt nice, an easy regression back to a more wild state of things. Messy hair fell into her face and dirt surely streaked across the skin that wasn’t covered by her borrowed shirt, but she was certainly more at ease than she was when Dias decided she needed to wear a dress. “Will you pout like a child if I do?” It was amusing the way he got when she paid attention to Zeus over him, acting like a spoiled brat more than a man over a century old. That very amusement was the very reason she continued to tease him, pressing a little closer to the dog. “I don’t know. He seems very strong.”
“Good…thank you.” Dias nodded his head, he was far more tamed than she was and he never minded sleeping in the floor when he was with her but mattresses were a wonderful invention. “Of course they’ll be good boys.” He watched them as she started to interact with the dog, his eyes focused intently on the large beast. He knew that she could take care of herself but his possession of her overtook common sense. Though, once he realized that it was going fine he smiled once again, relaxing fully. “I don’t think he will.” Dias spoke in a matter of fact tone. “I didn’t try to eat this one so he’s going to like me more.”
Gaia gave a small nod, appreciating his acknowledgement of her efforts. She’d never domesticate entirely -- obvious in her perpetually wolfish movements and her lack of desire to stay clean and civilized -- but keeping things easy between her and Dias was motivation to do something. There was some amusement on her face at the fact that she did seem to be quickly outnumbered when it came to the gender ratio in the house, but she didn’t mind. She liked her boys. As she interacted with the dog, there was no fear, no hesitation or uncertainty that a normal girl might have shown. For all intents and purposes, it was two wild dogs meeting for the first time, complete with a quiet array of huffs and other noises. “You’re both strong males. You’ll get competitive,” she predicted, a little teasingly.
“Oh yeah? That’s great. I mean, you know you can sleep in the floor if you want but I like beds. I prefer them.” Dias could sleep outside for days but if he was going to be inside then he would prefer a mattress. Depending on the night. “He knows to stay in the yard. We’ll introduce to Zeus after he’s eaten. I know that I like Zeus better after I’ve eaten.” He liked Zeus even when his stomach was empty but he didn’t feel the need to express that to her. Dias openly walked around like a petulant child when she gave the cat more attention. “Now I have my own beast.” He grinned down at Crixus, that was as long as his dog didn’t start to favor Gaia over him.
"I’m teaching myself to like them for you.” If she could find it in herself to actually prefer sleeping in beds rather than the hard comfort of the ground, then maybe she would be less inclined to complain when they curled up at night. It was a matter of ease and compromise, perhaps some kind of apology or distraction from the fact that she was still avoiding the stove like the plague. “They’re both smart boys. They’ll be good,” she hummed, crouching down in front of Crixus so she could be on his level. Her movements were inherently wolfish. Though her wildness had certainly not gone away to any extent, some of it had been smothered in the light of some confrontations, but in the face of a beast just as wild as she was meant to be, she easily fell back into the comfortable, silent communication with the wolf. “And if he prefers me?” She mumbled with a low chuckle, leaning closer to inhale his scent.
Dias watched her carefully, his eyes focused on every movement she made when she spoke he gave his undivided attention. “That’s true. I just really love the audacity.” He nodded his head watching her interact with the dog and it made him grin even wider. “I’m sure that they’ll get along perfectly fine. No big deal.” Dias raked his fingers through his hair, deciding that he would have to introduce them with the dog restrained so things didn’t get out of hand. “How was your nap?”
She gave a small chuckle, lips curling up further as she pet the dog. It had been some time since Gaia had interacted with a proper dog, one that was wild but knew to submit an Alpha, unlike the little fluffy things some people in the city had that were far too domesticated for her taste. Her eyes ran across the beast, examining him and wondering what breed he was. Maybe he had some wolf in him, but she wasn’t sure; all that really mattered was that he was strong and wild and friendly to her. If they didn’t get along, well, it would be disappointing but she was sure they could work something out. “Good. I’m almost used to sleeping in a bed now.”
Dias turned around and looked at her, his eyes moving over her frame, he liked the way she looked in his shirts and for a moment he was distracted before he smiled. “I present to you, the beat of the forest. He has no mother or father. He was belched from the cunt of the underworld!” Dias stretched his arms out, “Crixus!” Dias clapped his hands together, “Isn’t he big? He attacked me in the woods and it’s been a very mutual respect ever since.” He placed his hand on top of the dogs head, “I don’t think he’ll eat Zeus but we can leave him out here until we find out how they’ll get along.”
Gaia couldn’t help but smile, amusement obvious on her face at the dramatic way in which Dias introduced the dog. It was certainly a large beast, powerful and wild and that was something that she quite clearly adored. “You love things that try to kill you,” she teased as she moved around him to get closer to the dog, holding out a hand for Crixus to sniff. Once the dog was acquainted with her scent -- and her with his, to some extent -- she ran a hand across his head and down his back. “They better get along.”

The nameless Alpha is pleased with his Beloved’s citizens today and he has heard great news only from his children of all packs he has created. So he feels a child’s gaze staying too long on him, the corner of his lips rises in a small smirk.
For the first time in a while, Gaia is uninjured, somewhat clean and looking very nearly like a civilized being; it’s a far cry from her look while she was still in the cells, even if her gaze and movements were as wild as ever. The sight of the Alpha caught her attention, green eyes tracking him. When his lips curl up, her eyebrows raise, careful not to show disrespect where she was meaning curiosity.
