❝ she felt everything too deeply; it was like the world was too much for her. ❞
PAULINA SINGER? No, that’s actually ROSE GRANGER-WEASLEY. A SEVENTH YEAR student, this HUFFLEPUFF student is sided with MCGONAGALL’S ARMY. SHE identifies as CISFEMALE and is a MUGGLEBORN (adopted) who is known to be ERRATIC, COMPULSIVE, and DEPENDENT but also RESILIENT, COMPASSIONATE, and VEHEMENT.
BACKGROUND
rose remembers very little from the time before she was adopted by hermione granger and ron weasley. she knows where she came from simply because it’s written on paper, but all she’s ever known is who she is as a granger-weasley.
what’s written on paper, of course, tells a very different story than that of the wizarding family she now belongs to. in fact, rose was initially born to two muggles, a mother and a father who might’ve loved her had they not been in such poor financial states. she was put into the muggle adoption system at just one month old and lived there consistently for the next five years.
at first, rose was a relatively quiet baby – she didn’t seem to want to interact with anyone else and her crying was kept to a minimum all the way up until she was three. at that point, she seemed to become quite restless. she was suddenly loud and angry and demanding and after a few months of harmless tantrums, things started to escalate. strange occurrences seemed to follow her everywhere, things that were seemingly unexplainable, and the agency began to worry that she would never be adopted with such a harsh reputation.
it was one particular incident which nearly burnt down the adoption home that caught the eye of auror ronald weasley. at that point in time, ron and his wife hermione had a little boy of their own, hugo, and had hardly discussed having another child, but the instant they saw rose, they fell in love with the little girl and couldn’t stand the idea of her being left to anyone else’s devices. by the time rose’s fifth birthday came around, she was in the care of ron and hermione – and there was absolutely no doubt in their mind that she was a witch.
rose has never felt out of place in the granger-weasley household. from the moment she stepped foot over the threshold, she knew that this was home, that this was her family. she fits in seamlessly with the kindness, the excitement and the balance of the ‘wotter’ family, and she has never once doubted that this is where she belongs. in fact, her family is one of the most important things to her. rose would fit tooth and nail to keep her family safe, they are her lifeline and they gave her everything when she thought she had nothing. she just loves them a lot.
she’s very open about being adopted, but that doesn’t mean she’s talking about it all the time. she doesn’t think it’s important, because ultimately family is family, but if someone asks, she’ll tell the truth. it’s also come up a lot more recently as she talks more openly about being muggleborn – it’s something her mother taught her to be proud of, and so it’s really no wonder she joined the da when it came back.
coming into hogwarts, everyone thought rose was going to follow in her parents’ footsteps and become a stereotypical, loud-mouthed gryffindor. but in fact, it was her kindness, her loyalty and her crusade for all things fair that landed her in hufflepuff. she has never been embarrassed of her house, and even proudly supports them on the quidditch team ( where she lets out a lot of that pent-up aggression as a beater ). she loves her housemates but holds absolutely no prejudice against any other house and is friends with nearly everyone in the school.
despite the cool, excitable and non-stop exterior that most people see of her, rose is actually quite insecure in a lot of her actions. she feels as though she has to prove herself, especially coming from such an amazing, hero-centric family, but she never feels like she’s doing enough. it’s not uncommon to see her passed out in the corner of the hufflepuff common room, simply because she constantly wears herself thin trying to prove that she is the best academically, athletically, socially, etc. she’s tired but she won’t stop – anything she does is not enough, including the amount of love she puts out into the world.
when harry was killed, it was just another way for rose to blame herself for not doing enough. of course she wasn’t expected to save ‘the boy who lived’, but she spends so much time trying to make sure her family is safe that it feels like a blow to the gut to know that her uncle is dead. she’s been killing herself the last two months making sure that her cousins and her parents and her brother are okay, that they’re grieving in a safe manner and that they’ll have the strength to get through, but of course it’s hardly given her any time to grieve herself. she’s of course cried since, but she hasn’t taken the time to look after herself or her feelings or to really examine how this has affected her, and a lot of that is now building up to what is sure soon to be an explosion.
PERSONALITY
rose has pretty much always known that she’s a lesbian, and it is simply another thing that she is incredibly unapologetic and open about. she absolutely melts around girls that she likes, which is kind of a problem, since she falls in love with someone new every day. she’s quite airy when it comes to the idea of love, though she’s never really felt its extremities in terms of romance. anything she feels is more puppy love than anything, and a part of her likes it that way – real, true, all-engulfing love seems so terrifying and the idea of being so invested in someone sounds like exactly how rose could get herself very hurt.
she is super duper erratic and compulsive. not a good mix. she basically is constantly on her feet wanting to do something, anything that’ll make her feel alive. she’s been known to do rather stupid things and has followed in her fathers footsteps in that she often gets into trouble for the most ridiculous antics, but it’s just how she keeps herself distracted, sane, even. it takes a lot to get her to just sit down and stop for a moment, because to her, there’s always something that she’s not doing and if she’s not doing it, how can she ever be enough?
girl has a heart the size of jupiter. she is so compassionate, but that doesn’t mean she’s a pushover. she doesn’t take bullshit. she can love with all that she has got but can equally flip the switch and fight with everything she has in her. she’s well respected within the duelling club and the da and is feared on the quidditch pitch as a beater, and yet if you’re having love troubles or just want to get something off your chest, rose is your gal. she’s just a mix of extremities, really. that’s all.
