We were all getting great parts. Diane Keaton and Sissy Spacek and Sally Field, we were all working and doing great roles. But as time goes by, there are less and less roles for women of that age because there’s not the market. It was a bit of a perfect storm for my generation of actors. The industry changed, it became comic books and blockbusters. The demographic is supposedly no longer interested in women’s stories. We were aged out. It’s the same thing that happened with Crawford and Bette Davis. And I don’t see that it has changed that much. What has changed is that television opened up an avenue where you could still do really interesting work – Jessica Lange for The Wrap

We started shooting [FEUD: Bette and Joan] in September, before the election, and Ryan Murphy said he was thinking, “Well, we’ll make this piece about misogyny, sexism, ageism, all of this, but come the beginning of the year, it might just be ironic.” But of course … We took a different turn, and I think it’s more relevant now than it could have possibly been at any other time. I don’t think we’ve ever seen this much misogyny, this much sexism, and I think the fact that we have this story that is set in a particular period, but obviously Hollywood in the 1960s, is just a microcosm of the greater atmosphere that we are all living through now.  – Jessica Lange on the relevance of tv shows during the political climate.  Â
