Frankie had spent all morning flicking through binders of management information about the arcade. Whether or not she was actually absorbing the information was a totally different ball game.
Her head snapped up at the question to be greeted with a handsome stranger. "I would." She straightened right up, placing both palms on the counter with an excited expression on her face. It wasn't often since she moved on that people knew her name, let alone knew of her. Except Macaulay of course, and thank god for that little life saver.
"They really roll out the red carpet here, don't they? You can tell the chamber of secrets I'm grateful for the welcome, but I'm team Harry." She shrugged. It suddenly hit her how ridiculous that was to say. Closing her eyes and shaking her head, she let out a single chuckle. "Sorry. Yes, I'm Frankie. It's nice to meet you."
Wren had a rare night off from work, and she'd just gotten paid, so she decided that her dinner that night would be in the form of beers--and nachos. And while waiting for her food she'd ordered herself a shot, only for the bartender to offer her a second one. "From the guy down at the end of the bar." She rose her brow at that before rolling her eyes. She'd first sat down next to him but then moved away when the guy kept insisting on conversing with her. Wren wasn't in the mood to entertain anything like that, so instead she turned around and when she spotted the first person she could, she tapped them on the shoulder.
"Hey, want a free shot? It comes with the bonus of pissing off some creep."
Frankie would have been lying if she said she hadn't been watching the whole encounter. The guy didn't seem to take his eyes off the woman, even when she opted to move away from him. Which should have been his second clue. The first being the entire demeanour of the girl. She wondered how she was going to react to the second shot, but the question aimed to her grin. Taking the shot from the woman, she held it up and looked over at the guy. "Cheers, creep!"
Tapping the small glass in her hand to the other woman's, she downed the shot. Aggravating men was always an amusing past-time. "Thank you very much...." She paused for name. Waving at the bartender, she held up two fingers and mouthed "two more please" before turning her attention back to the woman. "I'm Frankie, by the way."
It was a quiet day, she had answered some phone calls and made a house call about a domestic fight, that apparently was just two love birds that got back together after a very long break and the neighbors didn't like how loud they got, it had been a very awkward knock at the door, but damn it, some neighbor should just mind their own business.
On her way back to the station she saw the woman."Would you like some help?" She offered. "I can't tell you how many times something seemed easy in my head and impossible when I tried to do it."
Frankie laughed at the woman's confession, thinking about every time she had overestimated her own abilities. Perhaps venturing on this massive life change was one of those times, but she was still settling in and everyone in Aurora Bay was so sweet. The ones she had met anyway.
"In my head I swear I can do it all. Reality is none of my business in my mind." The Brit laughed again. "Thank you so much, just pop them back down if that's alright, I'll get a cab or something." She shrugged. "I'm Frankie, by the way. I just moved here a few weeks ago to manage the arcade. You bobbies are on the go so early! Or is this late shift for you?"
Kaede had just dropped Layla off at school and was heading to grab some coffee before grabbing food and possibly attempting to go back into writing again. He’d put everything on hold once he lost his wife and it was something that he just felt like he didn’t have the heart for anymore. Once he got through the first anniversary it was a difficult day but he managed it. He survived it and made sure his daughter had been okay. Maybe he didn’t have to feel like there was always this cloud over him now. It was why he walked out of the shop with a little more enthusiasm than he normally had.
Kaede posed however as soon as he saw boxes and couldn’t exactly see the person holding them. “ you okay?” Kaede asked before moving over to help her with one of the boxes. “ here let me. These things are a nightmare when they’re stacked up” he noted with a small smile. Kaede remembers the early days at the reef when he’d try to avoid multiple trips on the back room and would carry too much in one go. He learned better after breaking several bottles. @ffedwards
"You are a life saver, sir." Frankie grunted as she let the weight lift from her arms. Swinging her arms around a little, she let out a small chuckle. "I had a moment before I left this morning where I thought about just jumping in the car but I was sure the walk would have only taken a few minutes. If I had brains, I'd be dangerous." She laughed at herself.
Grateful for the kindness of strangers, she opened up a gesture in return. "If you help me move the boxes in the cafe so I can order a uber, i'll buy you another coffee for payment?" Frankie knew Macaulay was at the arcade so she didn't have to worry about not opening on time. If Macaulay hadn't been working in the arcade with her, she didn't know how she would have survived the past week.
It was time to grab lunch for the mechanic and Jameson had a tendency to choose the cheaper options. He was still trying to save what money he could to afford a better place and provide for his daughter when he could contribute. He knew Sydney had worked so hard and he wanted to be able to lighten the financial load. It was also just lucky that he happened to love the diner. It wasn’t like he was ever going to go somewhere with fine dining. He really just needed fries and a burger and he was good to go. He was about to open the door when he saw the woman struggling with boxes and paused a moment.
“ I’ve got it” Jameson replied as he moved to open the door for her. “ do you want any help with that? I feel like I can’t even see your face behind those ?” @ffedwards
As soon as the door opened, the smell went to Frankie's heart and she knew it must have been a cafe or diner. "Thank you!" She replied to the mysterious voice at the other side of the boxes. Sliding her feet, she managed to guide herself through the door and she dropped the boxes on the ground. At least paper couldn't break. Though if there was a way to break paper, Frankie would find it."
She turned to face who held the door for her with a big grin on her face, placing the back of her hands on either of her cheeks. "As perfect of a face as you were expecting?" She dropped her hands. "Even more? What a flirt." She teased. Being as friendly as possible to whoever she met was her plan socially. Try make as much connections as possible and perhaps she wouldn't feel isolated. "Can I buy you a coffee so I can tell my mum i've tried to make friends?"
Wes did as he was told and set the boxes down for her and turned his attention back to her. "I'm Wes, and I get the whole being new thing. I moved here back in November, so I guess close to a year but... it's still weird being new. Ish." He furrowed his brows, realizing he kind of sounded stupid. If he wasn't trying to flirt he was just a rambling, almost awkward mess. It was weird what being in a relationship had done to him.
"Yeah, it is. It's nice and has a lot." Wes shrugged before turning his attention to the books he was holding. "Uh, I was checking out some new horror." It was his favorite genre of movies and books, although he would be lying if he said he didn't enjoy romance almost just as much.
"Well it's lovely to meet you Wes, and thank you for the offer of help! What brought you here?" Nodding along with the boys explanation of his still feeling relatively new, Frankie agreed. "If I'm going to be honest here, there's been little places i've been and felt like I fit in or felt like part of the furniture" She laughed, thinking to herself of how no matter what, she felt a little new and unsure. How the woman was a thirty-five year old woman, she would never know.
Frankie was already making a mental note to return and check out the store later. Those were the kinds of things she found romantic. Romance was everywhere if people looked properly, the Brit thought. "I do love a bit of horror. I'm re-reading 'The Picture of Dorian Gray' at the minute, but I'll be back here to pick out some new ones."
"I'm taking over the arcade actually!" The woman almost bounced in spot. Of course it was stressful and she didn't know what she was doing, but there was surely worse jobs than working in an arcade. "I'm excited but it's huge. Big step, big move, big girl things that i'm faking til I make or whatever it is." She shrugged off with a laugh. "What do you do?"
Emerson was walking to work as she usually did, but given that it was early enough in the morning, she'd decided to go to the coffee shop first and was now happily sipping at an iced latte, a bagged-up muffin in her bag as she walked. She was almost there too when she saw a woman carrying a bunch of precariously-stacked boxes and Emerson blinked in surprise, just...watching the situation for a moment before she just quickly rushed over, letting out a breath of relief when the boxes at least were balanced against a door and didn't go tumbling down. Just the same though...
"No! No, it's alright! Here..." Emerson wasted no time in putting her cup on the ground and immediately reaching up on her tiptoes to grab the top box off the pile. "Are you going far? Need a hand?"
"I don't know why I didn't take my bloody car." Frankie sighed, quickly moving her hands to her hips. "Oh thank you ever so much but i'm calling a cab or something, this is ridiculous. Just pop it on the others if that's alright?" Frankie laughed. She picked up the coffee from the ground and handed it to the woman.
"I'm Frankie, by the way. Just moved here to take over the arcade and my mind thought the walk was much shorter." The people were so friendly here. She didn't know what she was expecting but it wasn't such kindness. For whatever reason.
The woman looked so classic in her fashion sense, something she always admired. "You're gorgeous, by the way! I love your coat." The Brit grinned wide, sliding her phone out of her pocket. "Are you off to work? Sorry for getting in the way there, do you want to share an uber?"
"Mornin' boss!" Macaulay calls as she enters, kicking the door shut behind her as she juggles two trays of various to-go coffees in her hands.
"So, I was trying to win employee of the month on my first day by bringing you coffee except I made the fatal error of not knowing what coffee you drink so I ordered one of as many as I could carry."
"Good morning sunshine!" Frankie called back, standing from the counter and closing one of many books she was expected to know already, she made her way to the other side of it to meet her new employee. Laughing at the efforts, she grabbed one at random. "Aren't you a little go-getter? I wont turn down anything free." Taking a sip, she grunted and nodded. "Perfect. Coffee, milk and two sugars."
Taking a deep breath she sat down at the counter and turned her attention to Macaulay. "I'm chuffed you agreed to work here, it feels less scary with someone else, i'm sure we can muddle by."
Glancing around the arcade, which seemed to be empty ninety-five percent of the time, though it had only been a few weeks, she smirked to herself. "I've had enough paperwork this week for a lifetime. Want to set the record on all the machines we can?"
His curse defaults to Turkish, his heart skipping a beat (or two) as he opens his eyes after being so inside of his head that he hadn't heard another approaching to find a woman standing so close to him that if they hadn't startled one another by sight, they both might've passed out from the startle of actually bumping into each other in the dark. Green watch her suspiciously albeit in a non-serious manner. "I don't believe you. I think you might've done this on purpose - mhm," His eyes slant. "definitely did it on purpose." @ffedwards
his teasing manner made her smirk a little, though her lips twitched in an attempt to hide it. "well dressed men often pop out to me in the middle of the night on the beach." she teased back, settling into her spot on the ground. "if this was a movie, this would be the part where you tell me your a part of the mobster and they just killed your secret agent spy girlfriend as a threat to your shenanigans and now you're re-thinking the family business." she stated casually in a serious manner, though of course she joked. "i'm frankie. what brings you here then?"
"Whoa, hey! You some need help there?" Sage was sweaty and gross in her Aurora Bay University soccer team uniform that she was kind of scared reeked. It had been a very tough practice but she supposed she needed it... and she supposed helping lift some boxes wouldn't kill her. Or maybe it would? Who knows? All Sage knew was she was exhausted. "Here. I'll take at least one." Because she really didn't want to take both.
frankie set the box she was holding down and took a glance at the girl offering help. she looked out-of-breath herself. "just put it down here, i'm gonna get an uber. neither of us should be carrying boxes, though i would bet you a fiver you did a lot more exercise than me to look a lot less rough than me." she joked and let out a chuckle. "i'm frankie by the way! total newbie in these parts. thanks for the offer of help though." smiling at the woman. "ah, football eh? i used to go to all the chelsea games with my dad back in the day."
There was so much going on in Wes' life with working more hours at Neptune, being newly engaged, and having a baby on the way, and he'd found himself in a daze at times. Lately, however, he'd been trying to do more to help himself relax and not totally panic over the responsibilities of life, and after having bought several books for his daughter, he'd rediscovered his love for reading.
Guilt swirled in him as he left the bookstore with two books in a little bag but he honestly couldn't remember the last time he'd just bought himself something, so he was trying to tell himself it wasn't a bad thing.
He was in the middle of telling himself this when he saw a woman struggling with some boxes. "Hey no worries!" Wes dismissed her apology with a wave of his hand. "Can I help you with those?" And he was already reaching for them to take them from her before she could even respond.
the boy was so nice, the weight in her arms eased and she just completely accepted the help. "thank you so much" she pushed the hair out of in front of her face and wiped her slightly damp forehead and neck with the back of her hands. "what a gentleman!" she grinned, flapping her arms at her side to regain the blood circulation.
"just pop them down there thank you. i miscalculated the walk to the arcade so i'm calling it a good attempt but im ordering an uber." the woman plopped herself on the edge of the two boxes. "i'm frankie. i just moved here." almost as if realising they were outside of a shop, she turned her attention quickly through the windows. "is it a bookstore? how cute! looks exactly like you'd see in a movie. not exactly the massive waterstones in london." she joked, taking her phone out of her purse, turning her attention to the boy again. "what you reading then?" gesturing to the bag in his hand.
the past few weeks as frankie was settling in to aurora bay and hadn't really ventured out around her new location to take over an arcade she had no idea of from a relative she never knew. originally coming from london, she was used to rainier days and darker nights, so she opted to staying in most evenings unpacking and settling into her new accommodation. the only places she went during the day the arcade to pretend she knew how to manage it, somewhere for food (she was never much of a cook) and her apartment. whenever she went to the arcade it was always easier jumping in the car. this particular day was a beautiful and sunny and she felt like she was getting over the jet-lag and felt a new lease of life for her new adventure. optioning to walk to the arcade this morning with two boxes full of paperwork for the arcade and manuals the previous manager had a solicitor give her and her purse. she figured the walk would only take her a few minutes. ten minutes into the walk and still three quarters of the way to go, she knew she made a mistake.
as she approached a doorway, she felt the box on top start to slip. in a panic, frankie tried to balance the boxes against the doorway to stable herself as someone appeared, looking to pass her. "shit, im so sorry i'll just be a second this-" she paused to try push the box up against the wall again. "this was a lot easier in my head fifteen minutes ago." she spoke, almost to herself.
Aurora Bay reminded him of home while remaining foreign enough for him to not be bored by the monotony of the culture. It was beautiful, warm, yet it somehow felt more comforting than the dusty streets of Istanbul. Late night, after sunset, unable to find clarity with work or relaxation, he finds himself, bare foot on the beach near the lighthouse. He figured that if anybody were out this late, it might look funny for a well dressed man to be standing so close to the water by himself but as the cool water brushes his ankles, Tuncay's mind focuses on it instead.
getting over the jet-lag was proving harder than frankie imagined. especially since her days were so filled with work and moving arrangements. she took up walking in the evenings. she felt safe in the area and it was so quiet and beautiful at night she found a comfort. her toes sinking in the sand as she watched her feet walk along the beach, heading nowhere in particular. glancing up, her heart jumped into her throat when she saw a man standing in front of her. it seemed she scared him a little too.
adrenaline settling down, she smiled to herself "sorry about that." her english accent always sounding out-of-place here somehow.
