Bio
For many citizens of Aurora Bay, the idyllic environment was their hometown. For Kaede it was a case of falling in love with the town and it’s residents at first sight. Born and raised in New York City, Kaede came from old money and they weren’t shy to express that fact. For Kaede however the money didn’t mean that much. All he wanted was to be able to spend time with his family and cherish the small moments over lavish trips and overspending. The dream was not easy to achieve due to his parents intense work schedule, which left Kaede to essentially be on his own most of the time. The Yamadas’ owned part of the city due to property investments and developing other business in the metropolitan area. They didn’t need to keep working, but the Yamada parents still found themselves too busy for their children. Things got simultaneously worse and better with the birth of his first sister; better because he wasn’t alone and worse because it left another Yamada without much of a stable home-life.
As Kaede grew older, another sibling came along and the oldest Yamada sibling was essentially the one raising his two sisters. They could have had nanny’s and housekeepers but Kaede didn’t want to feel more isolated from his family and stepped in to help. He also started to grow more frustrated with his parents for never being around; a feeling that only grew when his mother passed away at a young age. His father only dived into his work further and Kaede continued to be the parent figure despite still being in his teenage years and deakong with his own mourning process. Alcoholism started to plague his father in the following years, due to the loss of his wife and soon Kaedes uncle stepped in to help both the family fortune but also help Kaede recapture some of his lost youth.
His uncle, Kenji decided that Kaede was going to spend as much time as he could completing his studies and enjoying what was left of his teenage and college years. His uncle was a good man and tried his best to help with his sisters, but he did have certain expectations for Kaede. Upon graduation Kaede was meant to take over the company due to his fathers failing health. The stress of the situation, made Kaede panic. He didn’t want to give up the rest of his life for a job that took his parents away from their family. However, the oldest Yamada sibling decided to remain quiet about his personal desires and started to double major in business and literature as way to at least be able to do something he liked to study in school. While attending college in Southern California, Kaede found himself bored in the business side of things but found a bright spot meeting a woman at a local bar who had instantly caught his attention. Gabrielle was fun, exciting, and seemed like a world away from what he was used to. She was finishing up her own degree then was heading back to her hometown to take over her families bar. Kaede realized then a family business didn’t have to be so overwhelming and could be fun and more family oriented. He fell in love fast with Gabrielle and the moment she took him home to meet her family in Aurora Bay; Kaede realized that he didn’t want to move back to New York and wanted to stay with Gabrielle on the West Coast.
Upon graduation,Kaede couldn’t find it on him to move home and take control of the family affairs which by then was in Kenji’s hands as his father had passed on as well. He understood he was taking a harder road but Gabrielle had inspired him to do what he loved and that family could be found in new places. He was going to be a writer instead and start a life with Gabrielle in her hometown. Kenji was disappointed he wouldn’t want to come home , he understood. He was still going to get his inheritance from being the oldest child of the Yamada family, but his other money would had to be gained elsewhere. Kaede in return extended the offer that if Kenji and his sisters wanted to have a change of scenery, he’d be happy to have them in Aurora Bay. His sisters were upset but he promised to always visit them when he had a chance, as he didn’t want to lose the close bond he had with them. While one of his siblings chose to stay; the other immediately took him up on the offer and joined him in California.
Not long after graduation, Kaede and Gabrielle married and had a daughter named Layla. Gabrielle took care of things at the Reef Bar while Kaede would stay at home with Layla and write. He began to find great success with a series of mysteries and thrillers and had found his own way to make a better than good living. Everything seemed to be going perfect for a few years. It seemed like the busy and overwhelming works of the Yamada business was a thing in his past and his life was going to be free of tragedy
However Gabrielle became ill from an undiagnosed respiratory issue and soon the perfect life that Kaede had built with his wife came crashing down. He spent his nights in the hospital while Gabrielle’s health failed, trying his best to keep his family together again and failing. It’s been nearly a year since his wife’s passing and Kaede has not recovered from it. Since the tragedy Kaede had struggled as a single parent. He had experience with his sisters but taking care of a five year old little girl who was also in mourning was a whole other obstacle. He’s trying his best to make sure Layla will be okay and have a happy childhood to the best of his abilities. He wants to always be there for her in a way that his own parents had failed to do. He’s also stepped in running the reef bar because Gabrielle had loved the place, even though Kaede is beginning a bit too much time drinking the merchandise lately. He’s become slightly oblivious in the fact he’s following his own fathers footsteps in the mourning process. His demeanor is becoming more solemn lately even though he is always putting a smile on his face to fight the pain. He’s in over his head and needs as much help as he can get. For the man who has always offered a helping hand, Kaede is in need of more help than he’s willing to show.
