Welcome to Aurora Bay, [JULIET HARKNESS]! I couldn’t help but notice you look an awful lot like [INBAR LAVI]. You must be the [THIRTY-THREE] year old [DETECTIVE]. Word is you’re [COMPASSION] but can also be a bit [RECKLESS] and your favorite song is [STAND BY ME - SKYLAR GREY]. I also heard you’ll be staying in [AURORA BAY DRIVE]. I’m sure you’ll love it! WC: GAVIN CARRIGAN BEST FRIEND/LOVE INTEREST;
tw: adoption, foster care, divorce
Juliet grew up in foster care, she doesn't know what happened to her biological parents, if they died in an accident, or if they just left her, but she was found alone in a house when she was a few months old, the detective heard a crying sound and followed until they found her there. When she was 7 a couple that couldn't have kids adopted her and she moved to Aurora Bay Drive, they were rich and were looking for the perfect daughter, Juliet didn't exactly fit in that position, but after her mother beat her for ruining a perfect dress, she started to be more careful around her parents.
At school, she was free to be herself, run around, climb trees, tell her parents she had extra classes when she just wanted to go to the beach and hang out, and that's when she met Gavin, they because instant friends, they always hang out together, he helped her lie to her parents saying they indeed were at school, one of her favorite things was to hear him play, and sometimes she even sang along but she was very ashamed so she only sang when they were alone.
it wasn't a surprise that Juliet had a huge crush on him, but he didn't seem interested, he was always with someone else, but it didn't matter, she still loved to spend time with him, besides he was worried if she said something it would ruin their friendship so she just burry those feelings deep inside and dated someone else. When he asked her to move in with him as much as she would love to go, she had to decline, her boyfriend had proposed to her in front of her parents and she just had to say yes.
She immediately missed him after he left, but she had a wedding to plan so her time was completely booked. Every time she had some free time she partied and made stupid choices, trying to breathe away from what everyone expected from her. After she got married Juliet felt completely lost, yet every time she met with Gavin she couldn't be honest with him, she ended up saying how perfect her married life was even if she wanted to scream about how everything was a mistake and how she just wanted to kiss him until she couldn't take it anymore and asked for a divorce.
Now that she was finally free to do what she wanted Juliet got in a band, it wasn't going anywhere but it was a good way to kill time, so she cut ties with her family and started to work as a bounty hunter for money, being the first time in her life she truly felt like she could be herself and do whatever she wanted. After a while, she became a cop, and applied herself to pass the detective exam that got her transfer to Aurora bay, in time to see Gavin divorced on the media.

Happy to have a cold beer in her hand, Lennon took a sip as she turned her chair at the bar to face more towards the crowds of people. She loved to people watch, especially in a new town or city.
"So, I'm new here to Aurora Bay- like yesterday new. What three places would you recommend to me to check out?" She asked the person sitting beside her, trying not to be so shy as she usually was.
"is it bad that the first 3 places that come to mind are restaurants?" She chuckled. "We have the botanical garden that's pretty. the ice rink is pretty fun too. and I'm a pretty fan of the Sea Shack

"Do you think it was a hinge date gone bad?" Tori asked, taking a mouthful of cheesecake and staring at the milkshake that had been thrown at one of the male patrons. A woman had screamed a few curse words at him and stormed off - he followed shortly after leaving the mess. Naturally, Tori was very interested in the drama. "Or do you think she just found out he's been cheating on her?"
Being a detective Juliet liked to use her skills in a day-to-day just to keep herself sharp. "By how she pointed out a photo on her phone, definitely the second option, and I would say he was stupid enough to cheat her with someone she knew like a best friend or sister."
“ is it embarrassing if I don’t actually know the answer to that one Juliet? “ Gabe noted shrugging his shoulders. “ I’ve spent so much time being other people that I sort of forgot what I even liked. I’ve been in town half a year trying to figure out half that stuff. “I would love that she’s got it in her head that since I’m home I’m gonna give her a grandchild. With who?” He replied shaking his head with an amused smirk on his face @juliet-harkness
"Not at all, before I left town and got divorced I also didn't know how to answer that question, but I will gladly help you find that out." She offered, Juliet always liked to do new things so this was her area. "Every chance is a chance to learn something about yourself, even something as simple as lunch, we can try all the food around and the next time someone asks you what food you like, you will have the answer. Don't push yourself, it will happen naturally." At least it did to Juliet, the day she sat down and ordered a bunch of different foods all at once, all she managed to do was to get herself sick, but when she started to have fun with the idea of getting to know herself, things started to fit in. "Good, they can be disappointed about not having grandkids together." She chuckled. "But I would be careful, my mother will tell your mother to get you some blind dates, you have no idea how many times I went to my mother's house for an afternoon lunch and was surprised by a date." Which was actually great, because she could immediately leave and not have lunch.
Gavin opened the door and was instantly surprised by what was in front of him, he hadn’t expected this image in front of him. Not when he had his own gifts beyond the threshold of his own place. Everything still felt so new between them and yet it was a comfortable transition. Except when it came to gifts. This was the one area Gavin did not want to screw up in. Juliet deserved that world and he wanted to give it to her. He just worried about it being all at once so it was overwhelming. “ well I love cheesy and that is my favorite cheesy valentines bear ever” he replied with a smirk as he saw the items in her hands, “ I love it cause it also make these giant pink and red flowers I got you fit right in” he replied before he pulled out a classic bouquet and leaned in to kiss her. He held open the door so she could walk in.
“ I have something else. It’s not exactly cheesy but also kind of. I was going through some things and I had picked this out for you years ago and I had been too chicken to give it to you cause I hadn’t been sure, but I’ve held onto it a while “ he explained before handing her the box that contained a necklace with her birthstone in it. "I hope its not too much"? @juliet-harkness
Juliet smiled like she always did when Gavin was in front of her, it was impossible to be sad when he was around her, he made all her bad feelings and fears go away. She gave him the bear and gladly kissed him, closing her eyes and feeling his lips against hers, she'd wanted to kiss him for so long that every time it happened, still felt like she was dreaming.
She was happy with the beautiful bouquet, the combination of pink and red was just perfect. As he said he had something else, Juliet looked at him, tilting her head slightly, trying to read his mind and guess what it was. She opened the box and saw the necklace, and her heart just filled with love, it was nice to know that she wasn't the only one being a chicken for years, but now everything was in the open. "Is perfect Gavin, I loved it." She said kissing his lips sweetly. "Will you help me?" She said moving her hair away so he could help her close the necklace around her neck, at the same time her body shivered with his gentle touch.
“ I think that counts quite a bit. A lot of the time we’re all just trying to be what other people want is to be. In my case I got paid for it and feel like I’m paying for it now ” he noted before shaking his head. He really needed to go back to physical therapy if he was gonna get off desk duty. “ oh god that’s an outdated concept if she thinks you don’t dress correctly. But that’s the exact kind of energy that my mother would attach herself to so maybe we might have to do this. It’ll at least give them a friend to gossip with “ @juliet-harkness
Juliet nodded it. "tell me, what does Gabe like to do? And on your next day off we're going to do it." She said she remembered the time where she couldn't answer that question when she didn't even know if she really liked something or if she did because someone convinced her she should like that. "Exactly, let them gossip with themselves and leave our ears alone for a while."She joked it
She can't help but begin laughing at the very image of Juliet just booking it down the length of the ocean, leaving poor Gavin in her dust. So the cage of the Ferris Wheel makes sense in her scenario. Forced to face her feelings, and forced to finish that conversation.
"Alright, alright. I get it, you needed to be trapped." A string of giggles still follows that statement, Blake can't herself. It is just an adorable thought, but in the end of it she is truly glad they had the opportunity to get things off their chest. "So… what does this mean for the two of you?" she asks in between snacking on the appetizers. "I've just been working. Sorta lost on what I want to do, I can't be a waitress forever. Even if the money is amazing in the tourist season."
It is, and it carries her through the slower winter months, but the serving industry was never known for its amazing benefits package and retirement plan.
"I've just been trying different things to figure out what I want to really do. I should find a career fair to attend, huh?"
"I'm trying not to think about it." It was funny, even when things were all out, she still felt like she was going to mess it up, she never felt like that with anyone else, not even when her marriage fell apart, it was easy to leave it all behind if she overstep and somehow lost Gavin, she wasn't sure her heart could take the disappointment.
"Well, I kinda bumped into being a cop, so I know how is like not knowing what to do, don't overthink it, just try to find something you like to do and with luck money will follow. And of you ever need a friend to try new things out, you can always call me."
“ I think I’m just so used to not really talking to anyone about this stuff. I spent years undercover unable to talk to anyone and now that I’m here it like all wants to come out now “ he replied knowing that if anyone got it it’d be another detective. He was still trying to figure out who Gabe was again after living so long as another man. A fake one, who sort of started to become real. “ I have no idea if you’re joking or not but I may have to take you up on that. She will not get out of my hair now. It’s like she thinks she’s making up for being a terror when I was younger “ @juliet-harkness
"If you need someone to listen, I'm here. I haven't had a lot of undercover cases, but I tried to be someone I wasn't to please my mother, so I understand how someone can lose themselves a little." She pointed out, even marrying someone to play the role her mother wanted. "I'm not joking, I think it would be the perfect way for us to get a break and my mother will love to have someone for tea or brunch that will show up on time and dress properly because I never do anything right." She chuckled.
" is that so? then i suppose we'll get to know each other better. i'm zehra, " she introduced herself with a smile as she held out her hand to the brunette. as the customer expressed her interest in pearls, zehra led her through the display with effortless grace. with a gentle sweep of her hand, she directed the brunette's attention to an array of pearls, each one more exquisite than the last. " ah, may i recommend this one? " she suggested, her fingers delicately tracing the outline of a set of pearls with a subtle pinkish hue. " they're a timeless classic, perfect for any occasion. " // @juliet-harkness
"I'm Juliet." She smiled, she knew her mother and after 33 years she knew the woman wasn't going to change, at least she learned to be herself around her, and let the critics not bother her as much. "They are perfect, she will love them." Juliet pointed out. "What else you have that is timeless classic?"
Juliet went to Gavin's place, and nervously knocked at the door, why did Valentine's Day have to be this soon? She still had the impression that Gavin would realize he could do better any time and every time she showed up, she was just increasing her odds of that happening faster.
However, she had to admit, as much as she was nervous, it felt good to know that what she was wearing was good enough, that she didn't need to wear high heels or a dress that didn't allow her to breathe or spend hours in a salon fixing her hair in a weird way, she could be herself
When he answered she smiled. "You said you wanted to do every cheesy couple thing...So I hope I'm not being too cheesy." She said blushing a little as she gave him the bear that said, be mine, and a box of chocolate with heart shape.
" if you're sure about it then i won't stop you--i mean, it's my business after all that you're patronizing, " the brunette added with a lighthearted laugh as she directed the woman towards the shelves. " what kind of earrings do you think she'd like? we do have some nice pearls here or if gemstones are her things, we have a couple as well. " // @juliet-harkness
"I'm sure, and trust me, I might need a lot of gifts over the year." She smiled at it, she loved her mother, but the woman wasn't easy. "Pearls for sure." Gemstones were complicated, she could complain about the color and the cut, but pears were a classic.
Blake smiles, fond of Juliet's blunt honesty. Though, she wouldn't class anything she's done or still does as 'stupid', she does understand the sentiment.
"Not going to lie, a confession in a ferris wheel, though very rom-com, would have me crawling up the walls. I'd be so panicked!" She laughs, not at Juliet or the situation, but herself just at the idea. The rom-com bit sounds fitting to how everything else has unfolded, however. From her confession to a kiss, then she had to leave for a little while.
Blake's smile turns more sympathetic, only breaking when the server arrives with some of their appetizers to offer them a 'thank you' before refocusing on Juliet. "Once a week works, but wait. Go back a little. How did he take it? Are you guys… going to try for something now that you're back?"
"it was actually the perfect place if we had started to talk on the beach like we normally do, I think I would have run away before we finally understood what the other was trying to say." as much as they always talked, communication had been a problem, always avoiding the subject when things got too real.
Juliet also thanked the food and wasted no time to fill her mouth, everything was perfect as always. "I'm trying not to ask too much and lose what I got." Juliet answered she couldn't help but still be afraid that if Gavin would wake up one day and realized he could do better, that she would ask him to be his boyfriend and he would just laugh at her face. "But come on, that's enough about me, tell me more about you!"
" doesn't sound like someone you should be buying a gift for, " zehra told them honestly even if that was practically bad for business. " we do have those, but are you really sure you wanna buy something like that for them? even if they're your mother. " // @juliet-harkness
"I know, but the longer I avoid this the worse it will be and hopefully I can distract her with the gifts for a few seconds and she will have something else to talk about it.
“ I mean it made sense at the time. I had been quickly transferred here after screwing up an undercover case. I can understand someone being wary. I just also thought me still having my job meant I was on the level. That and the whole injury to help other people. I don’t know I’m rambling “ he noted, realizing that Juliet was easy to talk to about this kind of stuff cause he didn’t really have anyone to talk detective work with. “ shit okay, I get that. I’ve been avoiding my mom since I moved back here “ @juliet-harkness
Juliet smiled. "is okay, I don't mind, I'm usually the ones that ramble." She pointed out. "If you need someone to talk to, I'm here." She offered, especially if others in the station didn't trust him, it was important to have someone to vent. "Maybe our moms can talk with each other, and leave both of us alone." She joked about it ,but she serious.
There was always a little bit of a distance between him and Juliet when it came to their work fields. In a way that was probably a blessing in disguise because knowing how Gavin was he’d probably be hanging around too much even before things with them had taken this positive change. Still, her work did worry him. It wasn’t like his where the biggest fears were stalkers and substance abuse but Gavin had been pretty lucky on both fronts; even as he decided to go into teaching the last few years. Though the call do performing again was always in the back of his head clawing it’s way to the front again.
“ that was honestly what I was going to ask. I obviously have no right to interfere with your job but I always wanna know you’re gonna be safe. I mean I always did even before all of this “ he added letting her know that even when he hadn’t admitted his feeling to her; Juliet was always in his mind.
Even now as she was right in front of him; his thoughts went to her and how much time he spent not realizing the truth. And how much he wanted to make up for the lost time. “ you’re absolutely right.” He added missing her again. “ I wanna do every cheesy couple thing then to make up for this “ he joked but there was an edge of seriousness to him @juliet-harkness
Juliet smiled at him. "You know when something happens to me you're always the first person I want to share it with." She pointed out, that it had always been like that and that feeling wasn't going to change, good or bad news, telling him always made things real. She placed her hand on his cheek and gently caressed with her thumb. "And I like how you worry about me, it makes me feel special." She also always worried about him, and she knew the feeling was mutual, having him worry about her always made her feel loved.
She kissed him again, and every time her lips touched his it was like she felt complete, like her wildest dream had come true and anything was possible, she could fly, go to the moon, anything she wanted because she was finally kissing the man she loved for so long and was pretty sure this was never going to happen.
when he spoke she smiled it. "I want to do all those things with you as well. Nothing is too cheesy or silly, and I'm glad we can start by spending the new year together for the first time." They had spent together before, like at the same parties, but always doing different things and spending midnight with someone else, Juliet normally tried to leave before that because her heart couldn't handle seeing him with someone else like that, it was better to call it at night before, it hurt a little less when she didn't saw it happening in front of her at least.
Today had not gone how sully had wanted it too. He was used to people being overall pretty calm with him when it came to his deliveries but today was some sort of weird exception and he found himself face first with the powdered sugar from the delivery. “ what is it?” He asked as he pulled more of the powdered sugar from his curls. “ it’s not what you think, it’s powdered sugar. A lady wanted me to set up her party after I handed her the box and I told her I can’t do that since I had five other deliveries and that party prep wasn't actually part of the stores services, and then she shoved them in my face. “
Juliet had just left her mother's house after hours and hours of listening to how she was a terrible daughter, how she never did anything right, and when she realized that it was a bigger trap, and her mother had set her up with someone, she ran from there as fast as she could, not carrying if the next time she visit, Juliet would hear how rude she was.
Looking at the guy, he seemed to have a worse day than she did, something she didn't think was possible a few seconds ago, but at least she was free from her nightmare, and he seemed to still have deliveries to do. "Is okay, I can see is not something else." As a detective, she knew the difference and powdered sugar was lighter, and was spreading around because of the wind faster. "I'm sorry, some people are just rude. Would you like some help?" She offered, now that she was free, she had the rest of the day off.
He speaks only after the initial shock of seeing Juliet again had worn off, a conversation he had had on New Years Eve almost feeling prophetic in nature, like he had beckoned her back by invoking her name.
There's a tilt of his head as he took in her appearance, she seemed to be dressed up for something and though it's none of his business he can't help but be curious as to what that was.
"You look like you're trying too hard. New man or same old mother?"
Juliet sighed, there it was, was this a record or something? last time they managed 30 seconds, so she thought they were making some progress, but from today, it didn't seem like it.
Juliet would never change for a guy, so the answer was very obvious. "Mother." She answered him, she knew she didn't have to, but there was no point in hiding it. "I lost her Christmas party and this is my punishment for it." She told him, it didn't matter that she lost the party because she was working, in fact, it only made things worse because her mother also didn't approve of her job.
"You guys should meet, I'm sure she would love to have company to talk about all the things I do wrong."
