I still haven’t watched them, the originals, and it’s a crime really. BUT I have watched crack videos and I have a decent idea of their storyline.

Hot take but I think it would’ve been ok if after everything that happened up until the party at the track meet Casey and Izzie didn’t end up together.

I don’t mean they aren’t supposed to be together or ever have a happy ending, but I think it should’ve been okay both for Izzie to not want to come out publicly and for Casey to not want a secret relationship.

I think it was a mistake for Izzie to suddenly be okay to be out with Casey, it would have been fine for them to press pause until they were on the same page. Honestly I loved the storyline up to then, especially the pace, but my favourite part was the scene after the party with Casey and Sharice. Casey wondering why she did any of it and Sharice telling her it was healthier not to let how she felt stay buried, regardless of the pain it caused her. That’s a great outcome.

Izzie’s situation makes sense. Izzie lacks the support system Casey has, she doesn’t have a Sharice or Sam with his gay penguins. The safe, stable presence in Izzie’s life is Casey but she’s not that safe and stable when their relationship is a source of stress.

I don’t like the trope of people being pushed out of the closet so I’m glad there were no ultimatums or outright rejection, but at the same time I found Izzie’s big kiss at school kinda jarring because coming out is hard even when you don’t feel shame and fear so slow down and give that process the respect it deserves

So yeah, it would’ve been okay, and I think pretty nice if they had just hit pause, reconciled and helped each other through their feelings until they were ready to be together, or whatever happens next. And Casey’s UCLA training provided a perfect opportunity for that, since it’ll be really difficult for them to keep up a relationship. That could very easily break them up next season, and in a choice between that easy drama and them simply not getting together at the end of season 3 I’d take the latter.

A year ago I would have agreed completely with this but I’ve since learned that when you meet the person you feel destined to be with and you’re willing to out yourself for no matter the cost then you do it bc you have decided that they’re it. Therefore, unless they break up next season and stay broken up, I would say it’s fantastic writing, if only idealistic.
