There’s magic
In the corners of your mind
non native english speaker culture is constantly switching between british and american spelling and writing words however you prefer without caring about consistency and you dont really always know which is which anyway
normalize not being friends with people anymore. not because someone wronged someone or you fell out but simply because you're different people now.
people grow and change and as we do it means that sometimes we don't feel compatible with people anymore and that's okay.
sometimes leaving relationships in the past is better than trying to force it to be something it's not.
I mention your name in my prayers to touch your soul, and you mention my name in your prayers to welcome me and for a brief moment it's like we met, for the language of souls knows no distance.
I want to fucking k- myself, thank you
Thinking about how the world is colored by our connections to other people. Small details in life that would mean nothing to us otherwise. For me, it’s things like how car haulers will always remind me of my grandfather, how papayas will always remind me of my high school best friend. I can’t help but think of my sister when I hear certain songs. Tulips are my favorite flower because they’re the reason for one of my first memories with my grandmother.
The people we know, have known, will know breathe life into our existence. The way we see the world is underpinned by the people in it with us. We’re not meant to do this alone. We were never meant to be in this alone
For everything you like, there’ll be someone who hates it. For everything you say, there’ll be someone who disagrees. For everything you make, there’ll be someone who disapproves. The point is that by saying you should always stay true to yourself, we mean that your personal happiness is more important than other peoples approval or disapproval. Whatever you try, you’ll run into people who will try to force their own opinions on you, but if they can have one and be secure in it, so can you. Be true to yourself by keeping the things you love close and being willing to learn about other perspectives without necessarily adapting to them or letting them dictate how you live.
Simone de Beauvoir, from Diary of a Philosophy Student: Volume 2, 1928-9; Monday, November 5
Text ID: —I have so much love in me that I would like to cry;
My 13 year old cousin came back from a date with her boyfriend and said, "I can't wait to grow up and spend sunday afternoons with him." At first, I wanted to laugh (after all they're just 13), but I remember being 13 and having the world in my hands. I remember getting excited to talk to someone about my dreams and wishes, and how happy these daydreams and fantasies made me. There's this innocence you can only have at 13 and the world rises and falls and crashes and burns every year... until you do not think about quiet sunday afternoons.
So I asked her about the date and heard her giggle about bubblegum flavored ice cream, and how much she loves this little life. I think she makes me love it too.
-Ritika Jyala, excerpt from The world is a sphere of ice and our hands are made of fire
