Forgiveness is a powerful thing, Meredith. Not only to make the other person feel good, but to heal you.
If love were enough...
No matter how they will bend and twist the story, and they had and they will, this is the true story of Greyâs Anatomy:
Bailey is the internsâ resident, the Nazi. Webber is Chief. Meredith, Alex, George, Izzie, and Cristina are a family. George is 007. Alex is Evil Spawn. Izzie and George are best friends. Cristina and Meredith are each otherâs person. George was Baileyâs favorite. Meredith is dark and twisty. Ellis is what happened to Meredith. Derek is McDreamy. Addison was Derekâs ex-wife. Mark is McSteamy. Mark is Derekâs best friend. Mark loved Lexie. Lexie is Meredithâs sister. Lexie loved Mark. Owen may have loved her, but Burke has always been the man for Cristina. Izzie loved Denny. Alex loved Izzie. Callie fell for George. Mark is Callieâs best friend. Arizona loved Callie. Callie loved Arizona. Owen is G.I. Joe. Jackson is Harper Averyâs grandson. April is the innocent virgin who was chief resident.
Derek wanted to marry Meredith. Derek wanted kids. Derek wanted to build a house in the woods. Derek wanted to die when he is 110, in the arms of Meredith.
Meredith chose Derek.
Meredith married Derek. Meredith had kids with Derek. Meredith and Derek lived in the house in the woods.
Derek loved Meredith Meredith loved Derek.
Derek and Meredith were extraordinary together.
This is how I choose to remember it.
-end-
Dad
Meredith: Ellis, your father would not have liked that.
Ellis: Stop saying that, mom.
Meredith: Stop saying what?
Ellis: My "father". He wasn't around.
Meredith: No, you don't get to say that!
---
Meredith: Ellis,
Ellis: I'm sorry about what I said. No, I'm sorry it hurt you. It just feels that way. I never knew him. I know, you tell stories about him. He never even got to hold me. Zola and Bailey have videos with him. I don't.
Meredith: I know. I'm sorry.
Ellis: I didn't mean to hurt you.
Meredith: You know? My father left me when I was 6. Then he never looked back. He had another family. And, he loved them. He gave them everything. He loved his daughter, Lexie. He was always there for her. He was Lexie's dad. Lexie loved him. He never did anything for me.
Meredith: But if Derek were still here, he would have been your dad too. just like Lexie's, even better. He would have been a great dad. He would have been there for you all the time. He would have been your prince charming and hero, too, just like he was for
me.
Meredith: And I know that, because I knew him very much. I know, he would not have left you. He would have given you everything. He would have raised you well. He, probably, might have done a better job than me. He would have loved you so much.
Meredith: Back in the day, he told me all the things that he wanted to do. He wanted to marry me, he did. He wanted to build us a home, he did. He wanted to have children, and we did.
Meredith: He did all the things that he wanted, sweetheart. All the right things.
Meredith: Your father was a great man. It's a shame that he isn't here. This is what he wanted, all he wanted.
Meredith: He gave up saving the world, just to have seen you grow.
Meredith: When he went home, he was so happy. He was happy that he chose to be home. He chose to leave his job with the president, just to be with his family.
Meredith: My dad chose to leave me, he wasn't around. Your dad did not have a chance. Your dad was a great man.
Ellis: I'm sorry.
I don't think I can watch any more episodes of Grey's Anatomy.
I donât think I can watch Meredith regress back to her old self and conflicts.
She has fixed her self because, for, and with Derek.
I canât believe itâs back to square one. Having to push through helplessly looking after loved ones, trying to excel at her career, trying to be good enough, having conflicted relations with relatives, and having no one to be together with.
It hurts too much.
I donât see how there is character development with this. It is already redundant.
happily ever after
Ellis: Mommy?
Meredith: Yes, sweetie?
Ellis: Are you happy?
Meredith: Of course, Ellie! Why are you asking that?
Ellis: Because you said that Daddy is your McDreamy. Then you lived in the castle McDreamy built. Now, you're supposed to live happily ever after.
Meredith: This is the "happily ever after" part, sweetie!
Ellis: But Daddy is gone.
Meredith: Daddy is gone. But you're here. Without Daddy, there would be no Zola, no Bailey, no Ellis, no dream house. But, there is! Because of Daddy! And, now, you make me happy.
Ellis: But the prince and princess are supposed to be together in the end. McDreamy and Mommy!
Meredith: You know? Daddy made Mommy the happiest girl when he gave me Zola, Bailey, and you - Ellis.
Meredith: I know, sweetie. It's not the perfect ending because Daddy isn't here. We miss Daddy, but we still have a family. Mommy has a family. And, Mommy is happy with that. Okay?
Meredith: I love you!
Ellis: I love you too.
---
Maggie: Fairytales? You are telling, your kids, fairytales?
Meredith: Derek believed in them. So, I tell fairytales to my kids!
Bedtime stories
Meredith (to Zola and Ellis): ... then came the knight in shining armor. He is McDreamy!...
Meredith (to Bailey): ... He's a superhero! He saves lives. He places magic in the brains of people in need. His magic makes them strong like him...
Daddy Issues
Richard: You have wonderful kids, Meredith.
Meredith: I know.
Meredith: I just hope they stay that way, you know, when they grow up. They probably might have some daddy issues. I hope they don't turn out like me, with all the boys, bars, and tequila.
Richard: They're the kids of Derek Shepherd and Meredith Grey. Derek practically raised his siblings. You looked after your mother.
Richard: And, they have a village for a family.
Richard: I don't think you need to worry about them being good. The apple won't fall far from the tree.
Prom
Bailey: *deciding between neck tie options*
Meredith: The blue one. It brings out your eyes.
Bailey: Oh. okay.
Meredith: Let me.
Bailey: Please!
Meredith: Your father was right about you.
Bailey: About what?
Meredith: *finishes the neck tie*
Meredith: That, you're perfect.
Bailey: Oh. I'm not sure about that.
Bailey: *looks at the mirror*
Meredith: You're just like him.
Bailey: Perfect?
Meredith: Dreamy.
Greyâs Anatomy, to love and get hurt or to never have loved at all.
to love each other, even when we hate each other
Meredith: Hey, Samantha is a nice girl. Are you finally inviting her for Thanksgiving?
Bailey: Yeah, she's really nice. But, I don't know. I don't think so.
Meredith: Bailey, you've been with her for a while now. And, you have not brought any girl for any family occasion.
Bailey: I know. I know, mom. It's just... Aunt Amy, Aunt Callie, Aunt Maggie, Alex, I just don't think she's ready for our village family. There's too much pressure.
Meredith: You're worried about her meeting the family? Really? You're the only one who's not brought anyone. You've been with a lot of girls, but, Bailey...
Bailey: Okay. Maybe I'm not ready yet. I don't know. It's a big commitment.
Meredith: Commitment? Since when have you been scared of commitment?
Bailey: Well...
Meredith: Well?
Bailey: I'm scared that it's just gonna hurt. Most marriages end in divorce.
Meredith: Sweetie, it is going to hurt.
Bailey: My point exactly!
Meredith: I wasn't done. It is most definitely going to hurt. But it will be worth it.
Bailey: I don't know how that's possible.
Meredith: Bailey, I'm gonna tell you a story I haven't told you before.
Bailey: okay.
Meredith: When your dad and I just started dating. We were madly in love. But, some things came up. And, we had to break up. He really really hurt me.
Meredith: I was hurt for a while, it felt like the longest months of my life then. He broke me.
Meredith: Then, George came. He said that he will never hurt or leave me. And, I knew he wouldn't. And, there was also Finn. Finn had plans. They could have been the 'better' guys. But, I ended up hurting George and leaving Finn.
Meredith: I loved your dad so much. When I had to choose, I chose him. I knew he might hurt me again.
Meredith: I was afraid of commitment too. But, it's a choice you have to make. Your dad and I had some rough days, but what mattered was at the end of the day we still chose each other, that he was the last person I saw at night, and the first person I saw in the morning. And, he was the only one person I wanted to see.
Bailey: Mom? How much did it hurt when dad died?
Meredith: Oh. For months, I woke up thinking I would die that day. And, every night it felt like I did. I thought I couldn't make it through another day.
Bailey: How is that worth it?
Meredith: It was terrible. I thought I couldn't make it. I thought after I would give birth I could just die.
Meredith: Then, I looked at Zola, you, and Ellis. I saw Derek in each of you. How he loved me. How he loved you, he loved our family so much.
Meredith: Bailey, commitment is a choice: to love and get hurt or to never have loved at all. I chose you.
Meredith: Everyday it still hurts, I still miss him. But, I know, if he had a choice, he would have chosen us too.
Meredith: Getting picked up by your dad, at the bar, was the best thing that ever happened to me. And choosing him, always choosing him, was the best choice I had ever done. We were extraordinary together.
SEASON 13 FINALE (after series reaches its worst overall ratings):
Meredith wakes up with the same red plaid shirt. It's already 5 pm, she fell asleep while waiting. She walks to the phone and sees police signal lights. A knock on the door. Police: Your husband is some hero, ma'am. We just had to make sure he got home safe. Derek: I told you, I'll be right back.
I CAN'T DEAL WITH THIS ANYMORE, GREY'S ANATOMY.
Haunted
Meredith: My mother's ghost keep on haunting me. It lets me think that I could never be good enough. I could never be happy because people keep on abandoning me. That at the end of the day, it will have been for nothing because I would get Alzheimer's and forget. I'm scared. I'm scared, I might forget Derek.
Meredith: He promised he would remind me who he was everyday, if I do forget.
Callie: And he kept it. Sofia reminds me of Mark everyday. You will remember him every time you wake Bailey up and his eyes remind you of his. When Zola would follow his footsteps, and like the same things he did. And, he built you a house! Let Derek's ghost haunt you, Mer. He loved you and would not have left, if he had a choice.
Meredith: I know.
Greyâs Anatomy: a summary
HOW CAN THERE BE A FULFILLING CONCLUSION AFTER 10 YEARS WITH THIS?
That was not how MerDer should have ended.
Dear Shonda,
You said that it was a their show, and that they would together forever. And then there was a complication. And you said you fixed that, but then, the baby got sick⊠and that made them fight, but then, you said that you fixed that too. And now heâs dead?
Stop saying that youâre sorry! You killed him! Youâre a murderer. A murderer.
Derek: âThey just lost their main characters.â Addison: âI know. Thatâs my point, Derek. They need to face that. Itâs not coming back.â Derek: âA little sensitivity would be nice here, okay? They love their show. They donât want to let go. Alright?â Addison: âWhat theyâre doing is not about love, Derek! Well, itâs like you.â Derek: âExcuse me?â Addison: âHow you pretend to love me, but really youâre just using me to fill this need you have be a good guy. (theyâre just using it to keep a long-running show.)â Derek: âNowâs not the time to talk about this. Weâll talk about this later.â Addison: âWhat, you walk away? Thatâs all I get?â Derek: âJust calm down, please.â
Derek: âWhat do you want from me, Addison?â
SHONDA, I WANT YOU TO CARE!
