Brian Baker was a simple man, a dreamer, dressed in an elegant winter coat, who walked cautiously through the icy palace halls of the Snow Queen. He had heard rumors of a cruel woman ruling these lands, but he didn't believe them... until now.
He spotted a slim, blonde-haired lady in a crystal-blue gown sitting on her throne of ice. Her expression was as cold as the frost crept up the windows. Brian’s heart pounded, not from fear alone, but from something else too. A strange pull toward someone so untouchable. And he finally dared to approach her.
"Your Majesty, I... I came to offer my assistance. If I may... This palace is breathtaking. Would you allow me to draw it? The architecture. The way the light reflects off your kingdom is unlike anything I've ever seen".
The man cautiously stepped forward, clutching a small sketchbook in his hands. His eyes darted around the grand, icy palace, its towering spires and shimmering windows like frozen jewels. Then his breath caught as he looked at her. Really looked. The Snow Queen wasn't just cold, she was ethereal. Her blonde hair flowed like liquid silver, and her eyes like shards of glacial ice, piercing yet mesmerizing. And without thinking, his fingers tightened around the sketchbook. He now wanted to capture her. Her and not just the palace now.
"Your Majesty, your beauty is... unforgiving."
"I'm Catherine, known as The Snow Queen. And you speak recklessly for one who has just entered my halls," she answered. Her voice was smooth as polished ice but sharp enough to cut. Yet... she didn't command him to leave. Didn’t freeze him on the spot like so many others who’ve dared address her so boldly. The man noticed the shift in her expression. The faintest shadow of something human crossed her features before she turned away. It made his chest tighten.
"Your Majesty, I didn’t mean to offend you. Only... I’ve never seen anyone so radiant."
The sketchbook felt heavy in his hands now, useless compared to the weight of whatever just passed between them.
"You better leave."
Brian swallowed hard at her answer. His throat dry. The dismissal stung more than it should but he won’t argue with a queen.
"Of course," he said quietly, bowing deeply before turning to leave.
As Bruan walked toward the palace doors, his shoulders were tense. He hadn’t come here expecting kindness, but for that brief moment? He thought maybe... just maybe. He paused at the towering ice doors, his hand hovered over the handle. Against all reason, he turned back around and called out softly.
"Your Majesty, if I may... Was it something I said? Or..."
The massive ice doors slammed with a thud that echoed through the frozen courtyard. The artist stood there, alone in the sudden silence with his sketchbook pressed uselessly against his chest. A bitter wind howled around him. He did not go back to her. The Snow Queen had spoken and he was no longer welcome.
Catherine Hill sat on the edge of her enormous ice bed, staring blankly at the frozen wall across from her. That stranger’s words replayed in her mind. It shouldn’t bother her. She wanted to be like this. Alone, unforgiving, cold, untouchable. So why did his sudden absence feel like a gap in the air? The young woman wrapped her arms around herself, a rare gesture of vulnerability. The curse had made her heart as hard as the ice that surrounded her, but even ice cracked under enough weight. Years of isolation pressed down on her all at once. A single tear slipped down, froze before it could reach her chin. Everything she touched turned to ice, so it was safer to avoid everyone. The Queen stared at her own hands, flexing her fingers slightly. The curse, a constant reminder that every touch brought coldness and distance. She had pushed everyone away long ago. Her family. Her friends. Her palace may be grand, but was also a gilded cage of solitude.
Her mind lingered on the strange man, the one who didn’t flinch at her coldness. Who dared to call her beautiful. Most would’ve avoided her, cowered or fled by now. But he… He looked at her like she was something worth seeing. A conflicted frown tugged at her lips. Maybe... just maybe she should’ve let him stay.
Suddenly, the Queen felt pain. She pressed a hand to her chest where a heartbeat still existed beneath layers of ice and power. It ached, strangely like something frozen was thawing. She was feeling it. The pain wasn’t physical, it’s deeper, a dull throb behind her ribs where emotions had been locked away for so long. She hated it. Hated that this stranger... this nobody managed to crack through years of ice with simple words. A sharp breath escaped her. The curse didn’t just turn things to ice... It turned her cold too.
Queen Catherine reached for a small, ornate vial on her nightstand with pills she kept to numb the ache, the pain and feelings and swallowed them. The medicine did its work. The pain reduced as numbness spread through her like a second layer of ice. Her expression smoothed back into regal detachment. Good. This is how it’s supposed to be. The Snow Queen doesn’t feel. She stood, straightening her crystal-blue gown, and walked to the window, staring out at the endless winter she commanded.
The temperature outside plummeted in response to her hardening heart. Snow began to fall faster, with the wind howling like a beast unleashed. Villagers huddled indoors, their breath fogging in the frigid air. The whole kingdom felt the shift, their queen’s sorrow turning into something darker. The colder she became the more others suffered too.
Brian Baker was already halfway down the palace road, feeling the sudden drop in the temperature. He glanced back at the icy spires. Was that his fault? A cold weight settled in his stomach. Maybe he shouldn’t have come here at all.
The young man quickened his steps, pulling his coat tighter around him. The storm was brewing fast and unnaturally.
"Should’ve just stuck to drawing landscapes..."
At home, Brian was greeted by his loyal dog, Sam. The animal bounded toward him the moment he stepped through the door, leaped up eagerly with tail wagging as he licked his owner's face in greeting. The man laughed. Finally something warm after that icy encounter and scooped Sam into a hug.
"Hey boy, missed you."
The dog nuzzled against his chest as nothing in the world could ever be wrong with this moment. Brian’s smile faded as a realization hit him... His sketchbook, filled with half-finished drawings of landscapes and that one uncompleted sketch of Catherine… was still in the palace. He forgot it there. A pang of frustration mixed with worry. Would she even let him return for it? Or had he just lost his art to a queen who likely didn’t care? Sam whined, sensing his owner’s sudden tension. But Brian made up his mind quickly. He couldn't just leave his sketchbook behind. Not with her drawings in it.
"C'mon, Sam," he called, grabbing a thick coat before heading back out into the worsening storm with his loyal companion by his side.
The walk was treacherous. Ice underfoot, wind howling, but Brian pressed on. The palace loomed just ahead like a frozen monument. And this time he won’t leave without what’s his. Sam trotted faithfully beside his owner. The paws sank slightly into the snowy ground. The dog stayed close, a warm presence against the biting cold. And as they approached the palace hall, the man called out.
"Your Majesty, I left something here."
Then he froze in the throne room doorway as he discovered the beautiful Snow Queen was holding his sketchbook. Her fingers traced the edges of a half-finished drawing. The snowy beauty looked different like this. Not icy or distant, but curious. The moment she noticed him, she didn’t react with anger, but slowly closed the book and held it out toward him.
"Oh, sorry. I didn't mean to... I just... Your art is pretty."
Brian’s eyes flickered from the sketchbook to her face, surprised by her soft tone. He stepped forward cautiously.
"Th...Thank you, I didn't think you'd...", he hestitated before taking the book back with slightly shaky hands.
A beat of silence passed as Brian's dog sat obediently beside him, watching the Queen with quiet alertness. Catherine stiffened slightly as Sam approached her. The dog wasn’t aggressive, just interested. And for someone who hadn’t been near animals in years, she didn’t pull away. Instead, after a hesitant pause, she tentatively reached out to let him sniff her hand. Then the dog wagged his tail clearly approving of this icy queen.
"Cute dog.", she giggled.
Her usually cold expression softened as Sam licked her hand gently. A tiny, involuntary smile tugged at the corner of her rosy lips.
"His fur is… very warm,", she murmured like noticing something for the first time. Like warmth. Brian was stunned. The Snow Queen just called his dog cute?
"And what's the name of this owner's dog?"
"I'm Brian. Brian Baker."
"Nice to meet you. I'm Catherine Hill and your drawings are… kind. Beautiful. But you haven't finished drawing me..."
"I was just starting when I left. Would you… Would you like me to finish it? If Your Majesty permits.", he nervously asked.
A part of him hoped she would agree, not just for the art, but to stay in her presence a little longer. The woman studied him for a long moment with her unreadable icy-blue eyes.
"You can stay if you want. And your cute dog."
Her Majesty turned slightly toward the throne’s side table, gesturing to an open space already expecting him to sketch right here in her presence. The man managed, stepping forward eagerly before remembering his manners. He quickly bowed first, then moved to the indicated spot. Sam plopped down nearby with a huff as if this was all perfectly normal for their day now. The artist carefully opened his sketchbook to a fresh page. His eyes traced Catherine’s features. The sharp elegance of her face, her arctic-blue eyes shimmering, the way her light-blonde hair caught the pale light from the ice windows.
He started sketching quietly, occasionally glancing up at her for reference. The throne room was silent except for Sam’s occasional soft huff. A strange peace settled over them. Artist and subject in quiet understanding. Catherine noticed his occasional glances, held very still, almost like a statue. But there was no coldness in it this time, just cooperation. At one point, she even tilted her head slightly when Brian seemed to be studying the light on her rosy cheekbones.
Then the woman’s gaze drifted to Brian himself, who was now not just an artist, but a true person. She hadn’t really looked at him before than now. Was he always that handsome? Looks cute when he's really concentrated. He’s not just some stranger anymore. A sudden warmth crept up her neck. Unfamiliar. But the unfamiliar warmth in her chest clashed violently with the curse’s coldness. A sharp, twisting ache. She pressed a hand on her chest, eyes widening slightly. This wasn’t that pain anymore, but something far more terrifying. Emotions? Brian was too absorbed in his drawing, to notice her distress at first. But when he finally glanced up, seeing the tension in her posture, he paused mid-stroke.
"Your Majesty?"
Sam lifted his head too, sensing something off. Catherine’s breath hitched as the pain flared again and this time worse. Her fingers curled into the fabric of her light-blue gown as she tried to steady herself. This wasn’t just an emotional turmoil. The curse was reacting, fighting against something that was never meant to feel.
"Help..."
The plea slipped out before she could stop it. She never asked for help, but the pain was so overwhelming, a storm inside her chest. Brian was on his feet instantly, his sketchbook forgotten. She collapsed sideways off the throne, and her body went limp. Ice spread rapidly across the floor from where she landed. The young man rushed without thinking, caught her just before she hit the ground, lowering them both carefully to their knees.
"Stay with me."
"You should better leave..."
"No, not until you’re okay."
Gently, he supported her weight against his shoulder while reaching for a nearby blanket to warm her or at least ease the pain. Sam whined anxiously beside them.
"Please... Leave...", the young woman sobbed. A sound no one had ever heard from the Snow Queen. Tears froze instantly on her cheeks, but the pain was too much to bear. And it made his heart shatter. Without hesitation, he pulled her into a careful embrace. His body heat radiated against hers in an attempt to counter the chill.
"Shh… I’ve got you."
"No, no, no... Leave!!"
Catherine thrashed weakly in his arms, not from anger but agony. The curse and her rising emotions were tearing her apart. Her breathing was ragged, icy tears still streaming. And he held on tighter, refusing to let go despite the cold seeping into his own skin.
"My pills... I need my pills."
Brian’s eyes darted toward the side table where a small vial of medicine rested. Without releasing her, he stretched an arm out and handed her to them. She quickly took them from his hands and swallowed two pills at once and thought of taking a third. Brian's stomach dropped when he saw her reaching for a third. He gently but firmly caught her wrist before she could take it.
"Two might be enough. Let’s… let’s see how you feel first. Overdosing couldn’t possibly help. It could only make things worse."
"No, I need it. Leave!!"
"Please, I can’t watch you hurt yourself like this."
The artist didn’t let go of her wrist by protecting her from herself even as she begged him to leave. Then his stomach twisted with the dawning realization... The pills. The way she’s dependent on them and the sheer desperation in her voice. These pills weren’t just medicine. They were drugs A sickening understanding hit him. The Snow Queen wasn't just cold, but addicted to numbing herself. The pain was killing her, not just physically, but emotionally too. And these pills were only trapping her in a cycle.
"You can't help me.", she hissed.
"But these pills are..."
"Leave!!"
"Try me."
"No!!"
"Where was the sweet girl I was just talking with and enjoying my art? Please. Let someone care about you for once. I care about you."
"Brian..."
Her voice cracked on his name like a fragile, broken sound. The ice in her eyes seemed to melt just slightly, revealing something human again beneath the cold.
"My Queen..."
"Brian, the curse made my heart turn to ice. Everything I touch turns to ice that's why I have to wear gloves. I bring the winter. I have to stay away from everyone. Please leave. You're safer that way."
His expression softened with heartbreak. Now it made sense. The gloves, the palace’s eternal winter, why she pushed people away. He leaned in and pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead, ignoring how the touch sent icy crystals spiderwebbing across his skin.
"Huh? Brian?"
Her breath hitched at the kiss. It was so foreign, so warm despite her icy curse. The crystals on his skin shimmered like tiny stars. The man pulled back just enough to meet her crystal-blue eyes.
"I don’t care about the curse, because I care about you."
The moment these words escaped his mouth and his lips met hers again, the curse shattered. Ice cracked across the throne room. Frost shattered like glass. Catherine’s frozen heart lurched as warmth flooded her chest. A true love’s kiss. The only thing that could break such a frozen curse. She gasped as the cold melted, not just from her body, but from her soul. The curse’s grip shattered like thin ice under the spring sun.
Tears, warm human tears streamed down her face as she clutched her lover's shoulders. The winter outside began to recede too. Clouds parted for sunlight. And the Snow Queen lived again. She touched her chest in disbelief. The crushing weight of the curse was gone. No more numbness. No pain. No more ice spreading from her fingertips. The curse was finally broken.
"Brian, I… I feel no more pain. But I feel everything. Emotions!"
He gently cupped her face, his thumbs brushing her rosy cheeks as if to confirm that she’s real.
"I know. And I’m never letting you go back to that cold.", he promised before they kissed another time. A kiss this time sweeter and no more ice between them.
"Brian, how can you already fall in love with me like this? The curse... And we just met... How?"
Catherine’s brow furrowed as logic warred with the truth. They did just meet… and yet.
"Sometimes, love doesn’t need time. It just… Knows. Happens. And I’ve never wanted to draw someone so badly in my life."
"You made me fall in love with you."
"Really?"
A laugh escaped both. Filled with disbelief and joy. The curse was gone and now they were in love. The Artist and Snow Queen. The Snow Queen’s legend became a fairy tale of love that melted every cold.
Brian Baker woke up finding himself stuck in a dark and abandoned warehouse, with his older brother in the same state. They were both bound tightly with their hands behind their backs. Completely trapped and unaware of what their captors had planned for them, despite their situation, Brian glared at Hodge from across the dimly lit room, his voice dripping with resentment as he hissed.
"Guess your shady business deals finally caught up with us, huh? Always expanding the family ‘fortune’ your way. Now look where that got us. You got a plan to get us out of here, or are you too busy counting dirty money in your head, Hodge?"
The older man shifted uncomfortably in his restrained state, his face betraying a mix of anger and regret.
"I was just trying to salvage our family's legacy after his death. Meanwhile, you were off playing Mr. Artist."
"And look where that 'salvage' got us, big bro? Tied up and at the mercy of some goons. Real stroke of genius."
Their harsh exchange was abruptly cut short as they heard the sound of footsteps approaching outside the warehouse. The brothers fell silent. The rusty door swung open, flooding the space with bright light. In the doorway stood two burly men, their clothes stained and old scars covering their skin. They looked dangerous. The kidnappers stepped forward, brandishing handguns. Both brothers tensed up, instinctively shifting closer to each other as the gravity of the situation set in. This isn't just about their personal issues anymore. It's life and death now. The taller goon strided towards them, his steps slow and menacing.
"Well, well, looks like we've got us a pair of siblings. The infamous Baker Brothers, huh?"
Brian clenched his jaw, eyes flicking between the masked men, his mind racing. Hodge was unnervingly still beside him, calculating.
"What do you want?", Brian spit out.
The goon just laughed, crouching to eye level.
"Oh, nothing much. Just a little... 'chat' about your family’s debts. And since Daddy’s not around... His baby boys get to pay up.", the man threatened them while he tapped the metal gun against his palm.
Hodge exhaled sharply, finally speaking, low and cold.
"Tell us who sent you. You're insane if you think I am going to hand over the family fortune."
The goons stepped closer, the barrel of his gun hovering inches from Brian's forehead.
"See, your father owed us. And debts like that... They don't just disappear."
"Let my younger brother go and name your price."
"Oh, we will. But first, let's see how loyal you both brothers really are."
The deafening BANG of the gunshot echoed.
"Brian!! Noooooo..."
But instead of flesh, the bullet was embedded in the concrete wall beside Brian’s head. A furious, guttural snarl tore through the warehouse as a blur of fur launched at the goon’s arm.
"Sam?!", Brian’s voice cracked in shock.
Brian's dog, Sam latched onto the gunman’s wrist. The animal's teeth sank deep and the kidnapper howled in pain, dropping his weapon. The second goon staggered back just as Sam whirled around. Hodge seized the moment and rammed his shoulder into the distracted second thug, sending him crashing into a stack of crates.
"Sam, hold!!!", his owner screamed as he frantically worked his roped hands toward a jagged piece of metal on the floor. Sam tore the ropes easily releasing both brothers. Amidst the chaos and violence, the sound of Dominic's familiar voice broke through the pandemonium.
"Hodge, Brian! This way!"
Turning, the brothers discovered Dominic, Hodge's employee holding open a side door, an escape route in the shadows.
"Let's go!" Dominic yelled motioning urgently.
Brian's eyes widen as he spots his girlfriend, Catherine in the doorway beside Dominic. Fear and relief mingled on her face.
"Kitten?!"
"What is she doing here?!", Hodge muttered who was also caught off-guard.
But there was no time to waste. Dominic beckoned them again, more urgently now.
"Come on, before more goons arrive!"
"Catherine shouldn't be..."
"Brian, I'm not about to stand on the sidelines while you two are in danger. We go together.", she argued with her boyfriend as her ice-blue eyes blazed with determination. And the boys knew there was no time for arguments now.
All four escaped with Sam trotting protectively beside them. As they burst outside into the night, Dominic's car was parked nearby, in the shadows. They sprinted toward it.
"In, in, in!", Dominic hissed as he hopped into the driver's seat. The rest scrambled into the vehicle. Brian and Hodge were in the back, Sam was wedged between them, while Catherine took the passenger's seat. Instantly, the doors of the car slammed, and Dominic floored it. Tires screeched as the car took off. Hodge glanced out the rear window, checking the street.
"Anyone followin’?"
"Not that I can see. For now."
There was silence except for racing breaths until Brian broke it, addressing his girlfriend.
"Kat, you shouldn't have come."
"You were in danger."
"I know that, but you could have been hurt. It was too dangerous. We could have handled this."
"Didn't look like that. Besides I was the one who figured out your disappearance first. And I wasn't going to just sit there, waiting and wondering."
"I know you were worried, but..."
"But what, Brian?"
"Great. The perfect time for a lover's spat.", Hodge commented and rolled his eyes.
Dominic cleared his throat awkwardly, keeping his blue eyes on the road but unable to resist interjecting.
"Uh... Maybe save the yelling for after we’re absolutely sure we’re not being tailed?"
Sam let out a soft whine and nudged Brian’s hand with his wet nose as if saying to relax and make peace. The dog owner exhaled sharply, fingers curling into Sam’s fur. When he spoke again to her, his voice was quieter, rougher with worry.
"Catherine, just promise me you won’t do that again."
"Only if you promise not to get kidnapped, Mister Brian Baker."
Hodge snorted at her answer. Never mess up with Catherine Hill, The Snow Queen. Even Dominic cracked a smile. The tension in the car eased a little as the city lights blurred past the windows. After a while, the group arrived at Hodge's secret storage warehouse, an unassumingly grimy industrial building on the outskirts of the city. Brian cast a glance at his brother as they filed out of the car.
"You have a place like this and never thought to tell me?"
"It's not exactly a vacation home. More like an emergency hideout."
"This is like the Batcave. If Batman was addicted to collecting old TV sets...", Dominic noticed and whistled at the Baker's collection.
Sam trotted ahead, sniffing around curiously.
"Guys, listen... Until we can't figure out who’s behind this and how deep the threat goes, Hodge and I will stay here. We can't risk your lives, either."
"Which means we start tracing our father’s old enemies. Someone with enough grudges and resources to come after us directly.", Hodge explained as he pulled out a burner phone from a hidden compartment.
Catherine crossed her arms, frowning. "Just hide indefinitely?"
Brian hesitated. Sam whined and nudged his hand again, as if sensing his conflict and then he answered. "No. We strategize first. Then we act."
"Agreed. But this time, we do it together, little brother."
"Great. More sibling bonding in a creepy warehouse. Not something I actually want to."
Then the younger brother, Brian caught his dog scratching his ear with a paw which made him smile. A momentary distraction from the tension. Hodge was already scrolling through the list on the burner phone, muttering something about too many enemies and too little time. Dominic glances around awkwardly before trying for humor.
"So... does this place have Wi-Fi, Hodge?"
"What part of 'emergency hideout' implied high-speed internet to you?"
"A man can dream."
"Okay, priorities first... Dominic, Sam and I make sure nobody follows us out of this hide-out. Then we figure out who wants you two dead."
"Agreed. But we also need to find out why now."
Sam, Brian's puppy, tired of the tension, plopped down with a dramatic thud and rolled onto his back, paws in the air demanding belly rubs.
"Be careful, boys.", she requested while rubbing the animal's fur.
Brian hugged Catherine tightly, taking a deep breath of her familiar scent.
"We will. I promise. No unnecessary risks."
Hodge watched them from a distance, arms crossed. Dominic clapped Brian's shoulder.
"We'll keep a low profile and check in soon. Be careful."
"Dom, take care of her."
"Of course. I won't let anything happen to her."
To calm his nerves, Catherine gave Brian a lingering hug and kissed him tenderly before speaking.
"You better come back to me, okay?"
"I will. I promise. Sam will look after you while I'm gone. Don't worry, we'll get through this, Kate."
They watched Catherine and Dominic disappear with the dog into the night. Brian exhaled sharply, turning back to his older brother.
"Alright, let’s dig into Dad’s old mess and figure out who wants us dead. The sooner we figure this out, the sooner our paths can divide again."
While the boys were hiding, Catherine was at Brian's home with his dog feeling much safer. Only until she found a mysterious letter attached at the front door which was saying:
You may have escaped but I'm coming for you to get revenge for what you and the brothers did to Ocean. This time, you're alone, and nobody will help you, precious lady. Be ready.
Catherine Hill entered a grand ballroom decorated for the charity event, hosted by her boyfriend's older brother and her former boss, Hodge Baker. It was located inside his Club, called Sirius. The room itself was large and had a high ceiling with an ornate chandelier hanging from it. The floor was covered in smooth marble, and along the walls were tall windows framed with lace curtains. In the center of the room was a raised stage where a band played soft music. Along the walls, tables and chairs had been set up for the guests. One wall had a buffet set up with all manner of food and drinks available. The other guests were dressed in formal dress wear, mingling among themselves, sipping champagne, and chatting. In one corner, a few couples were dancing the waltz to the music played by the band.
It was indeed a spectacular sight for the woman, but only if she knew that this event wasn't really a Charity Event at all, but only a disguise to cover up the older Baker's shady and illegal business deals.
The young woman was dressed in a form-fitting dark blue dress that hugged her hourglass figure. The dress with a low cut neckline, revealing a hint of cleavage had a slit that went up to her thighs, highlighting her long, shapely legs. Her hair was styled in loose waves, and her face was covered with makeup.
Hodge Baker, the businessman, was dressed in a tailored black suit. He stood near the bar, chatting with a group of other businessmen. A glass of whiskey in one hand.
As Catherine approached, his dark eyes flickered with surprise and recognition before a smirk spread across his lips. He excused himself from the group and turned toward her.
"Well, well... if it isn't my dear brother's lovely Catherine. What brings you to one of my events? Brian certainly didn't come with you... unless he's hiding somewhere?"
He took a slow sip of his whiskey, his gaze studying her with undisguised interest.
"Hodge, thanks for the invitation. I love supporting Charity Events", she thanked him, which surprised the man as he didn't remember inviting her.
"How noble of you. Though I doubt my brother shares your enthusiasm. He avoids my establishments like they're cursed", he answered her with humor while trying to figure out how she got invited to his illegal party. Then he remembered the night he was drunk in his office, daydreaming about her while making the guestlist of this occasion.
"What are you thinking?", she asked which pulled him away from his thoughts.
"Since you're here... Let's make sure you enjoy yourself properly. With or without my brother, you're my guest."
Hodge signaled to a server, who immediately approached with a fresh glass of champagne for her.
"Uhh... Thank you."
"After all, charity is all about... generosity."
The double meaning in his tone was unmistakable. Especially because this wasn't a charity event at all, but only a way to cover tonight's shady and illegal business deals. As Hodge passed her the glass of champagne, he lowered his voice, leaning in ever so slightly.
"You do know this isn't just a charity event, right?"
There was a glint in Hodge's eye, daring her to guess. The corners of his mouth twisted into a lopsided smirk, as if he were enjoying her ignorance. He took a small step closer, closing the distance by just a sliver while his gaze never left her.
The older Baker brother couldn't help but admire the way the dress accentuated her figure and how her hair framed her pretty face. The crush he harbored for her in secret was as strong as ever, maybe even more. If only she were his and not his brother's. What did she even see in Brian? His younger brother hated him already, he wanted to mend things with him, but if he ever found out that he harbored secret feelings for his girlfriend, he would never forgive him. Brian would hate him even more than before. Standing this close to her while she was unaware of his attraction. The businessman took another sip of whiskey, using it to keep himself from doing something reckless. Then again, he was a little drunk already.
"You look beautiful tonight," he said, his voice uncharacteristically soft which surprised Catherine.
"Hodge, I..."
"Catherine!!"
Hodge's eyes narrowed when he heard Brian's voice behind him. His grip on the glass tightened briefly before he slowly turned his head to face his younger brother.
"Brother."
His tone was cool, betraying nothing of the jealousy and frustration brewing beneath the surface. He lifted the glass of whiskey to his mouth and took a long, measured sip. His deep gaze never left Brian.
"Brian, you came?", Catherine gasped.
Brian Baker walked over to them, his eyes briefly scanning Hodge. When he glanced at the glass of champagne in Catherine's hand, his expression wasn't entirely pleased.
"I came to keep an eye on things."
The younger Baker's tone was casual, but there was a warning. He stood slightly closer to Catherine, protective and almost possessive. Hodge noticed. While Catherine was too busy admiring her boyfriend's formal clothing style.
Brian was dressed in a sharp tailored suit. The material hugged his lean muscular frame in all the right places. The dark blue jacket, the white button-up shirt beneath it was crisp and wrinkle-free, showing his attention to detail. His chestnut-brown hair was combed back, revealing the sharp edge of his jaw. His expression was neutral, though his brown eyes never left Hodge, watching his every move. Then Catherine spoke again.
"I thought you wouldn't join.", she wondered.
Brian shifted his stance slightly, one hand slipping casually into his pocket as he kept his gaze steady on Hodge. His posture was relaxed, but there was an unmistakable tension in his shoulders.
"Plans change, my kitten. Especially when I hear my girlfriend's attending one of my brother's... events."
"Well, I'm glad you came. Let's have fun."
Brian relaxed a bit, the tension in his shoulders softening as he offered Catherine a slight smile. Despite his dislike for his brother's lifestyle, seeing her happy is what matters most to him.
"Of course. Anything for my girlfriend."
He glances at Hodge with a silent challenge, while resting his hand now on the small of her back.
Just then, one of the men Hodge was talking to earlier gestured for him, indicating that he was needed elsewhere. A barely contained scowl flickered across Hodge's face before he reigned in his annoyance. He downed the rest of his whiskey and set the glass on the bar.
"Duty calls. Have fun, little brother."
His gaze lingered a moment on Catherine, giving them both a brief nod before retreating to attend to whatever shady business was waiting.
Brian exhaled quietly, watched Hodge walk away before turning his full attention to his girlfriend.
"Now that we have the place to ourselves to enjoy... Even if I still doubt my brother would do some charity work. I just want you to be happy."
His hand still rested gently on her back, and he nodded toward the dance floor where couples swayed to the music.
"Kat, care to dance with me, or would you rather inspect the buffet first?"
His tone was playful now, eyes warm. The tension from before was entirely gone.
"Let's dance, Brian."
Brian led his beautiful girlfriend toward the dance floor, his hand still on the small of her back, guiding her through the crowd. They found an open spot, and he turned to face her, one hand gently took hers, while the other rested on her waist.
He began to lead her in a slow dance, his movements smooth and graceful. The music washed over them, soft and elegant, adding an air of intimacy. As they moved in sync, he drew her a little closer, close enough to catch a hint of her perfume.
"You look stunning," he whispered, his voice huskier than before.
"You look handsome. Glad you came so I could see you in a suit."
Brian's lips curved in a faint smile, appreciating her compliment. He tightened his hold on her waist, drawing her even closer, their bodies now nearly pressed against each other.
His gaze drifted down to her dress, the way the fabric clung to her figure, emphasizing her curves. He wetted his lips, visibly fighting the urge to lean in and taste her. Instead, he focused on the music, leading her through the steps.
"I'm glad I came, too," he whispered, his eyes flicked back to hers.

Brian Baker was carefully searching for a cat, examining the various animals in the shelter. It reminded him of that time when he picked up his best friend and dog, Sam. Now he was here to pick a cat for his kitten. A cat was the best suited for his girlfriend. That's why his Catherine was his kitten. When he finally found one that he really liked and knew his girlfriend, Catherine, would love, he took the animal with him.
At home, Brian gently held the tiny white cat, wrapping it in a soft blue blanket to keep it warm. Sam watched his owner, Brian with curious eyes as the man held a new guest.
"Don’t worry, buddy," Brian whispered, scratching behind his ears. "You’re still my ride-or-die. But just try to be cool when Catherine meets her own pet here."
The tiny cat sneezed adorably which made the man smile.
“She’s perfect! White as fresh snow under moonlight… Just like Catherine, the Snow Queen herself."
Sam sniffed the new arrival cautiously. The snow-white cat meowed softly, batting the dog's nose with its tiny paw, and he licked her in return. That soft sight made the owner's heart melt.
As the evening darkened, Brian Baker heard Catherine's car pull into the driveway. Minutes passed until she finally entered.
"Brian? I'm home!", his girlfriend called out as she entered their penthouse while kicking off her shoes. The door clicked shut behind her as she stepped into the dimly lit living room, her ice-blue eyes instantly scanning for him. The boyfriend stood near the couch with the tiny car peeking up from the crook of his arm.
"Hey, Catherine... Someone’s been waiting to meet you, my Kitten. White as a winter queen. Thought she’d suit you… If you want her."
Catherine's face lit up like the sun, eyes wide. She rushed over and sank to her knees beside her boyfriend and the small creature in his arm.
"She's so beautiful, Brian."
Her voice was a hushed whisper as she reached a trembling hand to pet the animal's fur. It leaned into the touch, purring like a contented motorboat. Brian set the little fluffball on the floor and it immediately curled up in Catherine's lap, kneading the fabric of her jeans with her paws.
"Brian, you can't be serious?"
"Serious about which part exactly? That I knew this cat was a perfect addition, or that you look like some sort of… snow goddess right now, with her on your lap."
"Thanks, Brian. I love her!! You're the best."
The man grinned and ruffled his girlfriend's blonde hair before sitting next to her. His 3-year-old dog, Sam trotted over and flopped his head into Catherine's lap.
"Aww, Sam. My baby, I still love you. Don’t forget that. You're the one who brought Brian and me together."
Sam's tail wagged joyfully against the floor. It was indeed true that Brian's puppy, Sam assisted in reuniting Catherine and Brian again when Brian once temporarily lost his memory following a car accident.
The white car had curled up into a perfect little snowball in Catherine's lap, purring away softly. It was a wonderful sight. Catherine cradled their new pet while Sam looked up at the couple with adoring eyes. For Brian, there was no place on earth right now he'd rather be than right here.
"Y’know, Kat, I used to think Sam was the only living creature who could look at me like I’m actually worth something. But then you came along, and suddenly I’ve got a best friend dog who judges me daily and somehow still sticks around, and a cute girlfriend who hugged my best friend while holding a literal snow-fluff kitty. Weirdest miracle ever. Best one too."
"Our little family is growing, Brian. But why the gift?"
"No real reason. I just saw her and she reminded me of you. Beautiful, gentle, graceful, and just a little bit mischievous. Plus, what better gift for a girl like you than a mini version of yourself to adore, my Kitten?"
Catherine crashed her rosy lips on his. Brian's grin widened as it always did when Catherine kissed him. Sometimes he could barely believe someone so kind, so beautiful, so damn perfect, chose a mess like him. The man gently pulled her onto his lap, so she’s facing him with the cat still purring in her arms. He ran a hand through her blond hair, letting the silky strands slide through his fingers, and then rested his forehead against hers while Sam curled at our feet as a furry guardian, and the cat dozed in her arms.
"Look Kat, no grand reason for the cat. Just wanted to give my cute girlfriend something beautiful. To someone who made my world brighter."
"Thank you, Brian. You're the best. I love you."
"I love you too, my Kitten. Always."
The young couple sat there, wrapped in each other, with Sam and the new pet nearby. New pet? How will we name it?
"I will name the cat Elsa.", Catherine announced.
"Elsa, huh? Suits her. The Snow Queen herself."
The snow-white cat, which was now named Elsa, let out a little squeak, still dozing blissfully in Catherine's arms. The dog rested his head on his owner's knee. Brian scratched his fluffy ears as he smiled at his lover. And now the chaos was complete. Sam, the noble protector. Elsa, the delicate queen of fluff. And the lucky fools who got to love them both, Catherine Hill and Brian Baker.
He leaned in, kissed Catherine’s cheek and confirmed.
"Elsa it is."
Weeks have passed since Elsa joined the new family. Catherine and Brian were out for the night with friends, feeling ready and safer to leave Elsa and Sam for a few hours on their own devices.
Elsa, the cat, was curled up in her cat bed, twitching in her sleep like she was chasing imaginary mice when suddenly she was rudely awakened by a wet, slobbery feeling on her face. Her eyes went wide with indignant annoyance, and her ears flattened against her head. It was the puppy that stood over her. It gave her another sloppy lick to the top of her head, as if this were a completely normal greeting between species. The white cat narrowed her eyes at Sam. She tried to bat him away with a paw, but the dog dodged easily, his tongue still lolling out with enthusiasm. He clearly thought she wanted to play with him.
“Ugh, you’re such a big baby! A pest! Can’t you leave me alone for...”
Elsa was cut off as Sam shoved his nose right into her face, trying to sniff her again.
"Sam, must you be so... wet? I just groomed my fur!"
"But you're family now! And family gets love-licks! Also, you smell like tuna. Did you steal my treat?"
"I do no such thing. I’m far too dignified for your greasy snacks. A queen must maintain her standards."
A few minutes later, Sam returned again to the cat and this time with a crumpled napkin in his mouth, his idea of a toy. He dropped it proudly at Elsa’s paws, sat back, and nudged it toward her with his nose.
"You… want me to play with that? It’s dirty!"
"Come on, fluffy sister, chase it! Bite it! Roll in it!:
With less interest the cat disdainfully flicked the napkin with a paw, causing it to flop. She then batted it once, then twice. Suddenly, she pounced in triumph, rolling on the floor as if fighting an invisible enemy with sudden enjoyment. It made Sam bark with pure joy. He was running circles around her, barking and wagging his tail like it was the best day ever.
The young nighthunter, Nik Ryder was sleeping soundly. His bare chest slowly rising and falling as his breathing was soft and calm. He was clearly deeply asleep, until a strange sound suddenly reached his ears, interrupting his peaceful slumber. He groaned softly, shifting slightly and lifting his head from his pillow to listen closely. Still half asleep, he suddenly heard a familiar sweet voice echoing in his mind. It was his girlfriend, Alexis, calling out to him through the telepathy link they shared. A gifted bound by The Fate. Despite his groggy state, a small smile played across his lips. He closed his eyes, focusing on the connection, and responded telepathically.
"Alex? Is that you, sweetheart?"
Then he tensed up as he picked up the sensations coming from Alex. He could feel the chill and darkness. Panic surged through him.
"Alex?! What's going on? Where are you? Are you alright?"
"Nik, I don't remember, I'm beeing held captured in... Uggh, my head..."
The young nighthunter tried to focus his mind, using the telepathy connection to sense her location, the scene and gather as much information as possible. According to her state, she wasn't able to tell where she was, but he still had to find her somehow. And fast. With a deep breath, he sent a strong mental message aimed at Alex, filled with concern and urgency.
"Alex, stay calm. I'm coming for you. Just tell me one thing. Are you hurt?"
"Nik, I..."
She stopped speaking as their connection broke, and she fainted.
Nik's entire body tensed with urgency, his instincts kicking in. He swiftly rolled off the bed, grabbed his clothes and weapons. He quickly pulled on his gray shirt, put his black pants on, adjusted his long brown leather jacket and grabbed his black boots. Every second counted now as he prepared to set out.
"Alex, hang in there. I'm coming, rook."
With the Holy Light Crossbow slung across his back and the Blightblades strapped to his belt, the man dashed without hesitation. Whatever stood between him and Alex, it wouldn't survive long enough to regret it.

"Let me go! I will never marry you.", Nik's girlfriend, Alex shouted at the kidnapper.
"You will marry me, so I will become the ruler of Lamrian. And then, I'll get rid of you, dear.", the figure hissed while playing with the magical handcuffs she was forced into. They made sure that no fae magic could break them. She was a prisoner.
"No, I won't let this happen."
"Stubborn, aren't we? My servants did a great job in arranging a last-minute wedding. By the way, you look pretty in your new wedding dress."
"Get your filthy hands off my girl!", a powerful voice echoed in the hall. It belonged to a muscular, blond-haired man with silvery-blue eyes who burst through the chapel doors with a crossbow drawn. He fired a warning shot that shattered a stained glass window.
"Nik! I knew you'd come! You finally found me, love.", Alex whispered.
Nik Ryder, nighthunter and Alex's boyfriend was flipping his blightblades in each hand with style while his eyes were locked on the villain.
"Nobody forces my Alex into anything. Let's settle this like men. Unless you'd rather run now?", he demanded before he gave Alex a quick wink.
"But... but the ceremony is already...", the villain stammered.
"Oh good, then we can skip to the fun part where I kick your ass.", the hero cut him off as he cracked his knuckles.
Then he noticed his girlfriend struggling with the heavy wedding dress. The sight was so beautiful, but with the wrong groom by her side.
"Here, let me..."
With a single precise slash of one of his blightblades, he cut exactly some of the heavy fabric away while keeping her completely safe. She gasped as the heavy fabric fell away, leaving her in a much lighter and more comfortable mini dress.
"You always know just what I need!"
The young man grinned while twirling his blade.
"Dresses are overrated anyway. Nice high heels by the way. Now...", he spoke, extended a hand toward her while keeping his crossbow trained on the villain with his other hand.
"Shall we dance our way out of here, sweetheart? Ready to escape this place, rook?"
"Lead the way, my nighthunter. With you by my side, I'm ready for anything."
Nik turned back to the villain while still keeping an eye on Alex.
"Last chance to surrender, pal."
"Never!!"
Nik swept Alex into a dramatic dip as the villain charged toward them.
"Hold on tight, love..."
And in one fluid motion, he covered her while firing his crossbow backward without looking and successfully pinned the villain's sleeve to the wall.
"Show-off!", Alex called, got up, and positioned herself next to him now.
"For you? Always, rook.", he answered while spinning her under his arm.
Suddenly, more attackers appeared from behind to stop the couple from escaping. Nik pulled out twin blightblades and his playful grin now turned deadly serious.
"Stay behind me, beautiful. We're dancing our way home. One bloody waltz at a time."
In a blinding flash of holy light caused by his crossbow arrows, Nik effortlessly fended off numerous attackers without once looking in Alex's direction. The girl was awed by the display of his strength and power.
"Wow..."
As the dust settled, Nik turned to Alex with a playful smirk.
"Oh, I'm full of surprises.", he answered while scanning the area. He flicked blood off his blades and then began to break the enchanted handcuffs around her wrists.
"Still think bodyguarding is boring, rook?"
"I never said boring... Just a bit too dramatic?"
"Where's the fun in that? Besides... You're worth every bit of drama, rook.", he whispered, then stepped closer and tucked a loose strand of silvery-black hair behind her ear.
The young woman blushed as her savior and lover suddenly scooped her up bridal style. He grinned at her squeak of surprise.
"What? Thought we'd walk home after all that?"
With the wind rushing through their hair, Alex wrapped her arms around Nik's neck for support while the night skyline streaked by. He effortlessly landed rooftop to rooftop with each leap, never losing balance or breaking stride. Alex starts laughing uncontrollably.
"This is insane! You can't just... just... Woah!!!"
The man leaped into the air with a spin that ended with her dangling upside down, but before she could yell he caught her just in time so they're face to face. Holding her effortlessly, he gazed into her eyes with a teasing grin.
"Yes? Can't just what?"
She spluttered, flustered, as he righted her effortlessly.
"You can't just carry me around like a sack. It's... It's..."
"It's... what?"
"It's not fair. I want to show off too!"
"Okay, that's a fair point. Let's see you try, then."
He gently set her down, keeping a steadying hand on her waist.
"Fine, I'll show you. Watch this, Nik."
The woman took a couple of steps back, gathering speed, then leaped... only to trip just short of the next rooftop and fall flat on her face.
"Ow..."
He burst out laughing, tried hard to contain it as she dusted herself off. Her cheeks flushed from the embarrassing fall and his laughter.
"Damn, that... that was... You okay, rook?"
"You know, I actually meant to do that. And it worked."
"Uh-huh.... Riiiight. Sure you did."
Without warning, Nik suddenly scooped her up and tossed her into the air, only to catch her in a dramatic dip just before she hit the ground. His face inches away from hers while his blue eyes twinkled with mischief.
"That, rook. Now that was on purpose."
Alex's breath hitched as he pulled them both upright in one smooth motion. She playfully shoved his shoulder while still clinging to his leather jacket.
"You're ridiculous, Nik Ryder"
"And you're stuck with me, rook."
"But Nik, jokes aside. I'm... I'm so glad you saved me today. If you hadn't, then I..."
She turned serious, took his hand, and rested her head on his shoulder, hiding her worried look on his face.
"Alex, don't think about it. I'm here and you're safe now, that's what matters. I'll always be there for you.", he comforted her while stroking her hair.
There was no way anything or anyone would dare to harm her in his watch. Not with Nik Ryder.
Suddenly, unwanted guests appeared from the dark and surrounded the young couple on the roof of a building.
Immediately, Nik and Alex pressed their back against each other's and got into a defensive stance. Nik drew the crossbow from its holster and secretly gave her an extra dagger to use if she needed. The palms of his girlfriend, Alex started to buzz with fae magic. She wanted to fight beside him, but with her magic instead.
"We have visitors, Nik."
"They picked the wrong rooftop to crash our date night. Let's teach them a lesson. You ready?", he asked and grinned as he saw her magic flare up brighter.
"I'm ready, babe."
Back against the wall, the couple shot arrows, fought in combat, used magic, and more to fight off their opponents.
Nik just ducked a swinging blade and rolled to one knee, firing two rapid shots. Through the battle, he happened to move farther away from his partner. But they were winning.
"You holding up okay back there, rook?", he shouted before charging another shot.
"Nik, watch out!! Between us!"
The couple spun around in a perfect sync, daggers flashing as they carved through the enemy between them. The last foe dropped down.
"Up all night, got demons to fight. Remind me to take you somewhere less... stabby for our next date!"
"What date? But I'd love that, Nik. By the way, I really enjoyed our teamwork. I hate to be a damsel in distress sometimes, but I'm glad you always have my back."
"The way we move together... Almost like we were made to fight side by side.", the hunter remarked while wiping his blade clean on his jacket sleeve.
"If we were both the only ones in the world who could communicate through telepathy, then yes. We were always meant to be, Nik Ryder."

Nik did not sleep that night. He had paced the hall in the apartment till his feet and his mind calmed down enough for him to stop panicking. He had been fearing this day for longer than he could remember. It didn’t take long for him to accept that Elijah wasn’t coming back. He realised it before the sun had risen. He realised it even before he heard the sirens outside.
They took him into the woods. He was unfamiliar with the way it looked in the morning. “This is your life now,” Elijah would say to him, even as Nik protested against hunting in the darkness. Maybe that’s what made him upset with everyone that day. They had waited— the world had waited— for the sun to rise. The people who came to take him had a different life. The people who could afford to wait did not understand. Cowards, he thought. Only cowards feared the night.
He had imagined this day a lot of times; Elijah would leave him alone, and he would have no one to rely on. Was he successful in teaching his son how to survive alone? Probably not.
Nik had cried, screamed, kicked or sometimes even broken some of his things to release his frustrations. He had never gone silent. He continued walking. Slowly, the leaves under his feet were turning from brown to red. He lifted his left foot to look under his shoe— no stain. How long had it been?
He felt something on his shoulder. Probably a hand. He felt a gentle push and realised he had stopped. A few steps more and he felt the air stink. He didn’t know whether to cover his nose or pinch his temples—a headache was slowly creeping up on him. He could hear a muffled voice near him. He heard someone say his father’s name. He looked past the yellow barriers and saw the shape of a man. The sunlight made everything clear and visible.
Why had they made him see Elijah? Why did he have to see what he had gone through before death finally had mercy on him? Why did they take so long to find him?
He stumbled on his feet. The light was starting to blind him.
Nik lifted his arm to his eyes, a frustrated groan leaving his throat. He mumbled a “Stop”. When his eyes adjusted to the light, he saw Alex standing with her back to the window. She had lifted the curtains and was looking at him. Nik felt a strange sense of uneasiness.
“Ivy called,” Alex said. Her voice made him less cranky. “She has the items ready.”
He pulled himself to a sitting position with a sigh. He ran a hand over his face before rubbing the sleep out of his eyes. He couldn’t remember the last time he had had a good night’s sleep. It was either nightmares or his work. Sometimes, the line between the two was a blur.
“Why are you up so early?” he asked with a croaked voice. It was probably a stupid question, because, out of the corner of his eyes, he saw her lips curl in a smirk.
“I wake up when the morning comes, Ryder,” she said. “However, you sleep when it does.” She rested her body against the wall, her arms crossing on her chest.
Was that the reason she woke him up? To let him know she was better than him? That she could be cheerful enough to brighten his day even with a bloodwraith on her trail? Maybe people like her didn’t take life seriously. They searched for the light at the end of the tunnel. People like him were told that the light was nothing but a mirage. They were meant to remain in the safety of darkness.
When he caught a second look at Alex, he realised that she had washed her hair. The silver strands of her ombre hair hung from her roots like clouds on a fullmoon night. They looped along the length of each other, forming waves that reached down to her mid-arm. He saw a water droplet drip from her wet hair onto her forearm before she wiped it with her thumb. Nik took it as a sign to look away.
Alex pushed away from the wall. “I don’t wanna be the person who goes around telling you what to do,” she said, "but I think you should give this place a makeover.”
“I would rather shift to a better place,” Nik said.
“Then do that.” She gave him a small smile.
“No.” He saw her roll her eyes. The corner of his lips curled up. She looked at him and smiled back. A week ago, he would have had a different reaction to that.
Nik should not be bothered by a flutter in his heart. But he was. His mind recalled the previous night— something he wanted to forget. He remembered the conversation he had with the ghost of his father. He remembered how quickly the present had become a memory. Elijah had left too soon. He did not give Nik a chance to bask in the bittersweet reunion or to carve the anatomy of his voice into his memory so that he would never forget it again. He had no time to trouble himself in piecing together fragments from his memory onto the canvas that was the emptiness on his blurred face.
But Nik had wanted to see him. Although not as an entity which spat words hiding behind the mask of humanity, pretending to have compassion while solely being nothing but another state of matter. He would still take it; at least he had come to visit him. What had made him remember Nik after all those years, he didn’t know. He liked to think that Elijah hadn’t forgotten him at all, and that he was waiting to meet where they had left off, just like he was. Some bonds lasted a lifetime. Others lived on as dust particles, coming to life when the light shined on them.
Yet something in him wasn’t satisfied. He didn’t want to think that this meeting had been useless. A small part of him hoped it wasn’t their last meeting. There were more words unsaid, more feelings buried and waiting to be confessed.
A part of those feelings was about Alex; a large chunk that was impossible to ignore. They had eyes that could pierce him if he looked for longer than he dared. The truth was obvious and hard to digest— he was scared. It made him laugh at himself. How would he show his face to Elijah if he knew that his son, a nighthunter, was afraid of something as fragile as vulnerability? Had his father known that too? Did he refrain from bringing it up to spare his son from hanging his head in embarrassment?
He knew one thing— Elijah Ryder wanted his son to be fearless. He wanted his boy to chase monsters, not the other way around. He wanted him to be devoid of weaknesses. It made a hunter stronger and harder to defeat. Nik had seen with his own eyes how the same weakness that was consuming him had once almost broken Elijah. But Elijah Ryder would not fall; he was stronger than all of his demons combined. But what about Nik? He was not a hunter like his father. He was still the boy who got lost in the woods, running from his demons.
Nik Ryder was going to fail his father. He was going to fail himself. He was taught to win his fights alone. But he didn’t want to be alone in this fight against himself.
Besides, how could he ever push her away when she was looking at him like that?
He wasn’t imagining it, he was sure. He had seen the same eyes looking at him with the same twinkle multiple times. It was mostly when he wasn’t looking. But he was taught to see and feel without using much of his body. There he was again, scared to look her way. Had she noticed that he had been silent for too long? Was she going to ask him to share the thoughts that troubled him? He was sure he would rather push her away.
“You are always thinking about something.” She finally spoke. She must have considered it for a while. “Wanna talk about it?”
He let out a long sigh. He paused to think if the sigh had been rude. Did it make him seem like he was annoyed by her?
He shook his head, hoping it was a satisfactory answer. He did not want to look at her at that moment. He was afraid that he would see something dangerous— the sparkle in her eyes, her upturned lips, the slight tilt of her head that was almost unnoticeable— and would not be able to resist. God, if there was one, help him. Elijah, if he cared now, let him win this fight.
“Suit yourself.” She shrugged. She then took a short walk to the bedroom and came back just as quickly. “You know, you could at least change the lightbulbs if not your apartment.”
“What’s wrong with the lights?” He asked.
“They keep blinking nonstop. It's scary at night. Not that I’m scared of the dark or anything.”
He cocked an eyebrow. “No they don’t?”
She shot him a look, as if he thought she was lying. “I don’t care about your stupid apartment, or if you give it a makeover. But I’m asking you to change the lights, please.”
He told her he found nothing wrong with his lights, to which she replied that she can’t go in any of the rooms without the lights blinking at her, and that sometimes the hinges of the windows come loose which makes them shatter during heavy winds. She threatened that she would stay in a hotel from the next day if she lost another night of peaceful sleep; she knew he would not let her out of his sight.
“I’ll change the lights,” he said. “But I sure as hell don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Who were you talking to last night?”
“What?” Nik was caught by surprise. “Uh, no… no one. Why?”
“I thought I heard something. I didn’t see you on the other couch.”
He flashed her a smirk. “Were you scared?”
Alex narrowed her eyes at him. “I am not a child. Besides… I knew you wouldn’t just abandon me.”
He nodded. “I promised I would protect you, Alex. I would never—”
“I think I’ll take a shower.” She interrupted him. He noticed a slight anger in the way she said it. “And please. Change the lights.”
He watched her disappear into the bathroom. He was left to his thoughts again. He couldn’t say he missed being alone in his apartment. He liked her company more than he ever let himself admit. He should probably think less about it. What he had to think more about was what Alex had told him just before. He was used to finding answers. He would never have thought that the answer would come to him on its own.
Author's note: This takes place at the end of Season 3 of OTI.
Finally, the day arrived when Catherine Hill was moving in with her boyfriend, Brian Baker, in his penthouse. A next step towards their relationship. The blonde-haired lady entered his home with two suitcases as he opened the front door for her.
"Hey, Brian.", she greeted with a smile.
The brown-haired man drew her closer, wrapping his strong arms around her slender body before stepping back to take her suitcases.
"Hey, Catherine. Let me help you with these suitcases, my kitten."
"Oh, you should. And there's more outside too. Many boxes for you to carry inside with your strong arms.", she giggled.
He laughed, amused by her request, and followed her outside to carry her things inside.
"You really know how to take advantage of a guy's good side, don't you?"
"You should help me since you're my boyfriend, Brian. Besides, I'll help you."
"Well, when you put it like that, I can't really say no can I?"
After hauling several of her belongings into the penthouse, he sank into the plush cushions of the sofa and took a deep breath. A wave of exhaustion washed over him. A scent of new beginnings filled the air.
"Well Kat, I must say this is quite the workout."
"Oh, we aren't finished yet. And don't forget the stuff lying in the hallway.", she reminded while carrying a box inside.
The man took a deep breath, stood up from the sofa, and confidently walked down the hallway to retrieve the remaining items.
Suddenly, Brian's dog, Sam, rushed away from the kitchen, running towards them and jumped on Catherine. The girl lost her balance and tumbled down the floor with Sam on top of her. Brian just laughed at the sight of his cute dog licking his girlfriend.
"Looks like Sam here just wanted to show his affection. He's happy to have me moving in with you, I guess."
"Of course, he would. Now he doesn't have to suffer you alone.", she joked and winked.
"I'm definitely that bad to be around!", the boyfriend chuckled.
He grabbed her hand, helped her up, and exchanged a soft kiss on her lips before letting go. As he was about to give her another kiss by leaning his mouth closer, Catherine placed a hand between them.
"Now who's gonna help me pick out all the fallen items when Sam jumped on me?"
Brian dramatically sighed, but also couldn't resist her cute look.
"Fine, fine. I'll help you pick up the rest of the stuff. But only because you're too beautiful to refuse."
"Thanks, babe. First work and later the kissing. I'll help you with the clean-up, so it'll get faster."
The young couple spent the next few hours unpacking boxes and putting away her things. Throughout the process, they chatted and laughed, enjoying each other's company.
"Sorry for owning too much stuff. I already threw away the things I don't use or need, but..."
He laughed heartily, trying to take a break from constantly lifting boxes.
"Don't apologize, I'm happy to have more of your things around. It feels more like home with you here, my kitten."
"But where do I put all these things?.
The young man analyzed his penthouse, trying to find a spot for everything.
"Well, we could start by putting some of these boxes in one of the guest rooms above and some in the storage. At least until we find a better solution."
"Okay."
Together, they picked up all the boxes one by one and moved them to Brian's suggested places, taking care to neatly arrange them. After both finished, he turned to her.
"Hey, is there any specific place you'd like to put your personal items? Maybe on the nightstand, or the closet?"
"Well, the essentials. My outfits, bags and shoes in your closet if that's alright."
He agreed, flattered by her suggestion to put her belongings in his closet.
"Sure. My closet doesn't have much space left right now because I can already imagine the high amount of clothes you might own, but for now we'll have to make this one do until we buy a new, bigger closet for both of us to share."
"Sure. Oh, ummm... I don't think you have a make-up table where I can put my cosmetics and accessories in, right?"
"No, but that can easily be fixed. I'll make sure to get one for you, so you can have a proper place to put your makeup and accessories. My girl has the right to look pretty afterall."
Then the couple continued tidying up and unpacking while the 3-year-old dog, Sam curiously followed them around, occasionally trying to steal a little bit of their attention.
"Brian, can I put my trophies on your bookshelf? If that's alright.", she shyly asked.
"Sure, go ahead and put your trophies in my bookshelf. I'll make sure to arrange them so they look neat. After all, I want to show off your achievements. Everyone needs to know that my girlfriend is a champion."
After spending another few hours unpacking, both sat down on the sofa, exhausted. The boyfriend put his arm around the blonde-haired woman and pulled her close.
"It looks like we've done quite a lot, huh?"
"And there's still more left to do. We'll do the rest tomorrow.", she tiredly spoke before her stomach began to growl
Brian let out a tired sigh, but still found the strength to tease her a bit.
"Hungry? You sure know how to keep a guy busy, don't you? It seems like somebody's hungry and I'm too tired to cook."
"Aren't you hungry, Brian?"
"A little. But don't worry, I won't let you starve. Not on your first day in our new home, my kitten. Any dinner preference you have?"
"No, just don't put too much effort. You look exhausted like me, babe."
He gave her a tired smile and nod in agreement.
"You're right, let's keep it simple tonight. How about we order in? Pizza, Chinese, or something else you're in the mood for?"
"Pizza. You know which one."
Brian playfully rolled his brown eyes but couldn't help but smile at her choice.
"Of course, the classic choice. I'll put in the order, you just relax and take a break."
Brian dialed the number for their local pizza place and ordered Pizza Margherita for her and Pizza with Thuna for him. After hanging up, the guy rejoined his girlfriend in the living room. He sat down next to her, wrapping his strong arms around her and pulling her close, resting his chin carefully on her head and enjoying the comfortable silence and each other's company.
A little while later, they heard Sam barking as he entered the living room and approached them. Catherine rubbed the dog's head after it licked her hand as a sign of affection, which made the owner and his lady laugh.
"He must be excited about having you here. Finally some female attention in this manly penthouse."
The lovers laughed as Sam jumped up on the sofa, trying to make space for himself between them.
"Woah, Sam!!", she couldn't stop but giggle and softly stroked the animal's fur.
"He's being quite selfish, isn't he? Wants to hog all your attention."
"Stealing me from you, Brian.", she giggled.
"Are you snatching my girlfriend away with being cute, Sammy? That's not cool, boy.", he joked.
"Don't be jealous, Sam is cute. How can a girl resist him? He has me charmed."
"I think you're cuter, my kitten."
The man took her hand, held it high as she spun around gracefully before they pulled closer as they laughed. He wrapped his arms around her waist, holding her tightly. He couldn't express how he was with her, how happy she made him, and that she was now with her. Having Catherine and Sam under one roof just felt right.
As the days passed, Catherine and Brian slowly settled in together. The penthouse, their home, felt even more alive now that she was now with him. Even Sam felt happier than ever to have both of his favorite humans around. Brian took a moment to scan his surroundings, taking in the sight of everything being in its place. It looked a little different now, more lived-in and cozy, a clear sign of both of their presences.
Then he walked over to his girlfriend, putting his arms around her waist, standing behind her and resting his chin on her bare shoulder.
"Our home, my kitten. It's definitely finished. You did a good job, I have to admit."
"Don't give me all the credit. You too. You did more than I did and I really like your artistic input."
He held her tighter, nuzzling his face into her neck, inhaling the familiar scent that always drove him crazy, making him want her even more.
"The best part is having you here with me. Now, everything feels complete."
A few days after Catherine finally moved in, Brian decided to host a dinner party at their penthouse to celebrate a new start with her. Their friends arrived, bringing gifts and good wishes. The atmosphere was filled with joy, laughter, and a sense that this was just the beginning of something wonderful. The night was filled with good food, great conversations, and an overall feeling of happiness and love.
"Hey, Tate, training next week, same time again?", Catherine asked her ice-skating partner.
"Definitely, Snow Queen. Same time, same spot. Looking forward to it."
Their best friend, Liz, appeared from behind, chuckled, and playfully ruffled Brian's hair, which made Catherine giggle.
"Hey! Liz, stop!!"
"Moving in with Catherine. You're full of surprises, Baker. Now I can keep an eye on you two and make sure you do not mess things up with Catherine."
"Hey, I promise I'll be on my best behavior. No messing things up here, I swear. Besides, I'd rather not end up on your bad side, Liz. I'll make sure to keep Catherine forever happy.", he chuckled before pulling his girlfriend closer to him for a hug.
"Catherine! You're back!!", her brown-haired boyfriend, Brian Baker warmly greeted as she entered their apartment. Yes, their apartment since she recently moved in with him.
"Brian, babe, I'm back!!", she cheered which made Brian blush a little. He loved it when she called him his babe.
"How was ice-skating today?"
"Training was great. Tate and I are practicing a new skill. How was your day, Brian?"
The brown-haired man pulled her closer to himself, wrapping his tattooed arm around her slim waist.
"Boring without you, my kitten. Oh hey, look who came to see us!", he chuckled.
The couple turned their attention towards Sam, the fluffy, 3-year-old dog, who was now wiggling its tail at Catherine, in a playful and very excited manner. The dog was excited to see her. The girl rushed towards the animal, sat on the floor to hug and stroke its fluffy fur.
"Awwww, Sam baby. Catherine is sooo happy to see you too. Yes, yes, who's a good boy? That's youuu.", she sweet-talked.
Brian smiled as he watched his girlfriend interacting with his dog which was somehow cute. His two favorites. As Sam licked her hand with his giant tongue, she giggled and hugged again its soft, fluffy fur.
"So, what are we gonna do today? We could take Sam out for a walk together if you're not exhausted from your training. The weather's nice.", Brian suggested while enjoying such an adorable sight.
"Oh, yes. That's a great idea. Sam, my baby, come here. Come here! Mommy and Daddy want to go outside with you."
The man chuckled affectionately as his girlfriend called herself mommy for his dog. It was adorable and suddenly made him feel butterflies in his stomach.
"Alright, let's go."
The couple continued strolling in a comfortable silence. The cooling breeze was blowing gently over them, ruffling their hair. Every now and then, Sam would run off to the grass and roll around in it for a while, before returning to their owners. After a while, they reached a quiet spot in the park. Brian found a cozy bench under a nearby tree and motioned his girlfriend to sit down. He sat down too and Sam jumped up next to him, resting his head on the man's lap. He looked at her and patted Sam's head, still smiling.
"This is a great spot."
"Yeah."
As Brian glanced at her, he was struck by how beautiful Catherine was, which made his heart flutter. Then he watched as Sam nuzzled against her bare legs, his dark eyes looking up with adoration.
This moment was perfect.
Brian was captivated by Catherine's beauty and gentle nature as she gently stroked Sam's furry head, his tail wagging at her touch. Brian's love for her grew deeper. The soft breeze rustled her golden-blond strands, giving the appearance of flowing on water. The man reached out to take her hand and held it. Feeling a sudden creative jolt, Brian imagined forever capturing this moment as an artist in a painting. The way the sunlight filtered through the tree leaves, the gentle look on her face as she petted his dog. He watched silently, forever committing the scene to memory, hoping to paint it one day.
"Woah, hey!!", his girl screamed as somehow the pet managed to drag her down on the ground with pure intentions, only to cuddle with her. Brian chuckled, leaning forward to pull Catherine back, to help her sit up on the bench.
"Looks like someone wants all the attention today."
"I realized that.", she answered while dusting off her clothes.
"Sorry about him. Sometimes he can be quite demanding for attention."
"That's okay. Who can be mad at such a cute face with adorable puppy eyes? Anything for Sam.", she giggled.
Both looked down at Sam, who was now resting his head on Catherine's lap, his dark eyes looking up at her affectionately.
Brian watched happily as his girlfriend caressed Sam's head, his tail wagging and he closed his eyes in contentment. The animal leaned into her touch, clearly enjoying the affection. Brian smiled, feeling a warm glow within him just by watching her with his dog.
"Oh no! Brian, look!!"
The artist glanced up at the sky as raindrops started falling. He looked at her as his face twisted into a frown.
"Looks like rain. We should probably head back to my penthouse. Let's go."
The couple started running, trying to get home before the rain got heavy. The young man held her hand tightly as they dashed through the rain. Sam followed closely behind us with his fur getting wet.
"Carefully Catherine, try not to slip. We'll be home soon."
After about five minutes, they finally reached the doorstep and burst through the door, panting and drenched from the rain. He closed the door behind them, and the three stood there for a moment, catching their breaths and trying to shake off the water.
Brian studied her intently. Her disheveled blonde hair clung to her face from the rain, and it brought a soft smile to his lips. Despite her messy appearance, he found her adorable. Then, she sneezed.
"Achoo!"
"Bless you, Kate. Looks like you're gonna catch a cold if we don't act immediately. Let's get you out of these wet clothes."
"But first... A kiss."
He smirked and pulled her closer with his hands on her slim waist. He gazed into her ice-blue eyes with full affection.
"Well, how can I refuse a kiss?"
Brian leaned down and pressed his lips to hers. The kiss was gentle at first, but grew more passionate. His arms wrapped around her petite body, pulling her even closer to him.
"Mmhhh..."
Suddenly, they heard a soft whine from behind them, which made them break apart, giggling. Sam looked up at the couple with big, shining eyes with his head tilted to one side. It seemed he wanted attention too.
Brian chuckled and reached down to pat Sam on the head.
"Looks like someone is feeling jealous."
"We would never forget our big baby.", she sweet-talked, which made Sam bark softly, his tail wagging with joy. The animal now seemed satisfied with the attention it was receiving again. Brian watched Catherine and couldn't help but feel grateful for this moment. Just the three of them together, in the comfort of his home.
Brian gently took her hand and started leading her towards the bathroom.
"Come on, let's get you out of those wet clothes. I don't want you to catch a cold."
He helped her out of her damp clothes, trying his best not to stare too much at the way her outfit hugged her curves and outlined her slim figure, which was sexy and alluring, before removing her clothes, exposing more and more of her skin. For him, she looked absolutely beautiful, even wet and disheveled.
The man felt a wave of desire stirring within him, but he quickly shook his head, reminding himself that right now, her health was the priority.
He smiled as she sneezed again, feeling a mix of concern and amusement.
"You really are catching a cold. Here, let me find you something to wear."
Her partner rushed inside the bedroom, rummaged through the closet, and found a loose-fitting t-shirt and sweatpants. Then he hurried back into the bathroom, so she wouldn't freeze and I handed them to her.
"Thanks, they look comfy."
The man grinned as she slipped into his own clothes. A feeling of commitment while she wore the clothes with his own scent. They were a bit too big on her frame, making her look adorable and cozy.
"They look good on you. Comfortable?"
"Yeah."
"Good. I don't want you freezing."
Then he grabbed a towel and started drying her long hair, gently rubbing it with the towel.
"Thanks, Brian. I still remember last month how I moved in and you have been nothing but caring and generous. Took me in like a lost kitten without a home, gave me a roof under a luxurious penthouse, gave support to my career, and shared your own dog with me. I feel like I don't deserve you. Not with what happened in the past. You risked your life for my mistakes. My dark, depressing past...", she whispered as she got a little emotional.
Brian pulled back a bit so he could look into her arctic-blue eyes.
"You deserve to be loved for who you are, past included. Everyone has flaws, everyone has dark moments. You know mine too. But they're just part of who we are. They don't define us. You're kind, loving, and beautiful, inside and out. And I love you for that. And as for your past? It makes you who you are today. It's made you stronger, but I'm always here for you, through the good and the bad. No matter what, Catherine Hill."
"I love you, Brian Baker."
He smiled warmly at her words and pulled her closer with his hand reaching up to tuck a stray strand of wet hair behind her ear.
"I love you too, my kitten. Always."
Then he couldn't help but reach out to touch her face lightly, tracing her rosy cheek with his thumb which made her smile.
"Brian, I..."
Sam's bark interrupted the moment between the young lovers. They looked down at him, his paws pattering on the floor
"Looks like someone's feeling ignored.", he chuckled.
"Hey, Sam!! Look!! I'm wearing Brian's clothes. Do I look great?"
Sam looked up at you with his large, expressive eyes, tilting his head as if he was truly considering the question. Then he let out a soft whine, as if in approval. We smiled at the cute exchange, which made every heart swell with affection.
"Thank you, my little fashion advisor. Mommy and daddy love you too.", she giggled and petted the dog.
Brian laughed softly, amused by her interaction with Sam. It was moments like these that made him love Catherine even more, and the way she treated his dog like your own, like family, with such affection and care. The man couldn't help but feel grateful to have found someone who fit so perfectly into my life.
Author's note: My very first Heaven's Secret fic. Have mercy.
Victoria Walker, an enchanting and slender woman with long, wavy light-brown hair and striking ocean-blue eyes, found herself as an Unclaimed at the Angels & Demons Academy in Heaven. This status meant she was neither an angel nor a demon, and soon she would have to make a choice about where she belonged. As an ordinary human who had tragically died at a young age, she now navigated a realm filled with angelborns and demonborns. Fortunately, she had a few immortal friends who stood by her side, including her beloved and the academy's most admired angel, Dino. He embodied honesty and purity, having a depth of care, support, and gentleness that was rare. It was these qualities that made her fall deeply in love with him.
"Hey, Dino", she greeted him with a smile after leaving Art & Literature Class while carrying a bunch of old, ancient tomes.
When the Angel spotted her, he immediately rushed for help, taking the heavy tomes from her and carrying them instead, as both walked down the hallway.
"Good morning, Victoria. How was your Class? And what's with all these old tomes?", he asked with interest and smiled.
"Oh, thanks for carrying. They're sure heavy.", she sighed and looked upset.
Dino noticed her worry, brushing a strand of hair out of her face behind her ear while balancing her books.
"Is anything wrong?"
"Just worried about a test. I still have to study a lot and I'm not sure if I will remember everything I learned. I hate that subject. There's so much to remember."
"Don't worry, you can do this. I believe in you," the angelic man with tousled dark-blond hair said, his voice warm and reassuring. His calm demeanor contrasted with the tension radiating from Victoria, whose brow was furrowed in anxiety. Despite his soothing words, she felt a heavy weight of stress pressing down on her.
"Dino, that test is next week and I can't remember a detail. I'm not..."
"Do you want me to help you?"
"Huh?"
Dino smiled at her innocent and shocked reaction. The man brushed his hand against her to calm her down a little because he was aware that she worried about her exam and was ready to help her beloved.
"I'll help you study. You'll see that the test will be very easy."
"You really would do that?"
"Of course, I love to help."
"But don't you have other things to do?"
"Listen, I have time to help and I'd love to support you. I won't let you worry about the test and will make sure you'll pass."
Victoria was incredibly happy to have his support. She longed to hug him, embrace him, and kiss him, but as an Unclaimed and he as an Angel, their bond was forbidden. She struggled to control her feelings and resist her desires. Leading the dark blond-haired boy into the Academy's library, she aimed to start their study session. She chose a table in the History & Politics area, away from prying eyes. Once they were seated with books spread out on the table, she focused intently on him.
"Thanks for helping me, Dino. The test is about the hierachy of angels and demons."
"Ahh, an easy topic for me. Now, the hierarchy of angels and demons is a system that organizes these supernatural beings according to their rank, status, powers, and role in society and in the supernatural world. I would suggest that we start with the hierarchy of angels because it is the largest part to memorize. Then we'll study the hierarchy of the demons.", the angel suggested and grabbed an old tome, already turning to the correct page.
The Unclaimed listened closely to his deep voice as he started explaining the structure of the hierarchy.
"The hierarchy of Angels is made up of nine different orders of angels. From the highest rank to the lowest rank, we have: Seraphim, Cherubim, Thrones, Dominions, Powers, Virtues, Principalities, Archangels, and Angels."
"Oh sheepa, I think I can't do this anymore. It's too much for me. I won't remember everything.", she started to panic already. Dino grabbed her hand and affectionately stroked her soft skin to calm her down, which made her pleasantly shiver with goosebumps.
"Victoria, calm down. It's normal, don't worry. We'll take it step by step, you're not going to memorize it all. I won't let you down."
"I know, Dino."
He smiled at her and continued the lesson.
"Now we'll go one by one. Let's start with the first rank, the Seraphim. Seraphim are the highest order of angels and the closest to Sheepa, our god. Seraphim have three pairs of wings, they guard the throne of God, and they are known for their pure light and love."
"Hmm, okay. They are the highest."
He nodded and continued.
"Next, we have the Cherubim. They are the second order of angels and are known for their wisdom and intelligence."
He gave her a few minutes to memorize, to scribble it down, and then continued.
"The Thrones are the third-ranking angels and known for their power and authority. They are often described as mighty and fearsome beings who carry the throne of God and act as his assistants in judgment and justice. Followed by the Dominions, the fourth order of angels, known for their responsibility and discipline. They are often portrayed as wearing robes and holding rods, representing their role in exercising dominion and authority over the creation."
"Dino, I will never remember all this."
The angel smiled softly.
"Don't worry, my Victoria. We'll practice as often as you need until the test day. It's normal, you won't memorize everything right away, especially all the orders of the hierarchy. But I'll help you. To start, I'll make sure you understand it well and memorize it. If you have any questions now or in a few days, we'll find the answer together."
"Thanks, my angel.", she whispered and dared to plant a soft kiss on his cheek, which surprised him. He smiled and kissed her back, enjoying the moment.
"You're welcome, my dear. We're going to make sure you're good for this test."
The angel watched her with passion in his eyes, wanting her intensely. His blue eyes shone more brightly when they looked at each other. He began to gently caress her face and ran his fingers through her soft brown hair as he gazed deeper into her blue eyes with love as if he could lose himself in them.
"You're so beautiful..."
"So are you, Dino. I love you. I don't care about the Law of Segregation because I want you. I need you."
Dino smiled and moved closer to her, longing to be close to her, the contact was inevitable.
"We shouldn't. An Unclaimed with an angel, that's forbidden... But I can't resist you either... And I don't think I'll be able to for very long.", he whispered.
"I wouldn't mind to skip studying."
The angel mischievously smiled, leaning closer to her.
"Are you sure? You don't want to take advantage of our free time to study for your test?", he reminded her.
"Dino, why are you always the responsible and reasonable angel, making me choose to do the right thing?", Victoria complained, crossing her arms.
"Because I don't want you to forget to do the right thing. But... I must admit that it is a bit hard for me to be reasonable and responsible when I'm next to you.", he chuckled caressing her rosy cheek.
"Oh, really?", she grinned.
The angel watched her with a slight mischievous grin. A spark of desire in his eyes couldn't help but become noticeable.
"Don't smile at me like that, Victoria. It tempts me to do unspeakable things."
"Like what?"
The man moved even closer to her, until there was almost no distance between them. His blue eyes had an intensity of desire, and his voice got slightly lower and more seductive.
"Like... touch you... In places no one else has ever touched... Or hold you so close that I could feel your body press against mine. Or touch you in a way that would leave no doubt of how badly I want you."
Dino's strong hands slid to her waist, gripping her gently, possessively.
"Oh my love, what are you doing?"
He gazed at her. His light-blue eyes were now slightly darkened by desire and a barely contained passion. His hand on her waist gripped her a little more possessively, as if making their bodies touch.
"I'm just simply being a good teacher, helping my student.", he joked.
His voice had lowered to almost a murmur, almost like a whisper. His fingers gently and slowly moved up and down her sides. Slowly pressed his muscular body against hers as his hands gripped her waist tightly pulling her body against his while his other hand moved to her hair, running his fingers through her soft curls.
"...and right now, I feel it would be good to provide you with extra lessons."
"Make sure nobody catches us, Dino."
His eyes gleamed with amusement and desire as his body pressed against hers, and his hand moved to the small of her back.
"Don't worry, love. I don't intend for anyone to see us."
They stood up. Dino gently but firmly pushed her backwards until her back was pressed against the wall of a shadowy corner where they won't be seen, with his body against hers
His body pressed against hers and his hand was now placed on the back of her waist to keep her in place. They kissed. His soft lips pressed against hers with a growing urgency and intensity. His tongue seeking hers.
"Dino.... Mmmhh...", she quietly moaned.
The kiss became more heated, more urgent. Dino's tongue entwined with hers, deepening the kiss while his free hand moved up to cup her face as his fingers gently caressed her skin. His touch and his kiss became more possessive.
But that moment didn't last forever, as they suddenly heard voices which caused the angel to instantly pull back, breaking the kiss.
"Someone is coming.", he warned her.
As the couple broke apart quickly, moving away from the wall and each other, just in time before someone rounded the corner, almost walked into them. Gladly they weren't noticed because neither one of them could hide their flushed cheeks and slightly messed appearance from the embrace before.
Dino's hair was also messy and his breathing was slightly heavy from the kiss and the interrupted moment. His eyes darted around, making sure they weren't spotted. And thankfully they weren't.
"That was close..."
"Yeah. I don't want you to get in trouble because of me, Dino."
"It was also my fault, I couldn't resist anymore. It was a risky thing to do.", he confessed but couldn't help but glance at her flushed cheeks, messy hair, and her rosy lips slightly swollen from the kiss. Taking a deep breath, he composed himself.
"I... We... we should probably go back to studying.", he suggested.
Taking her hand and guided her back to where they were studying, trying to push away all thoughts of them from just a few moments ago. But he couldn't resist glancing at her flushed face and remembering the feel of her body under his hands with her lips against his.
"Sorry Dino, I didn't mean to..."
"Don't apologize. It was as much my fault as yours. Don't blame yourself, my little angel. We're just lucky that we weren't caught."
Squeezing her hand gently, they tried to focus on studying, but his mind went back again to the moment when they were pressed against the wall. Her body against his.
"So where were we? Ah yes, what comes after the Thrones?"
The angel cleared his throat, trying to focus back on the studies. He pointed to the page and spoke with a slightly trembling voice.
"After the Thrones come the Dominions."
Dino explained the next rank in the hierarchy and the powers of the Dominions, but he struggled to concentrate. His gaze kept darting toward her, still feeling the warmth of her body against his. Suddenly, he was drawn to her long legs when her high heel accidentally brushed against him. He couldn’t help but glance at her bare leg for a moment before looking up and attempting to focus on the studies in front of him. However, it was becoming increasingly difficult to ignore the physical proximity between them.
"Dino?"
"Yes?"
"Everything okay?"
He composed himself, nodding.
"What? Uh yeah, everything is fine."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, I..."
"Victoria!!!"
They heard someone call her name and turned around to discover who it was.
“Mimi!”, she cheered, her voice ringing with excitement as she spotted her best friend and roommate across the room. Mimi was a striking figure, a beautiful demoness with a fair skin that shimmered under the lights. Dressed in form-fitting black leather that hugged her curves, she reflected an aura of confidence and allure. Her long, sleek bangs framed her face, casting shadows over her mischievous, eyes that sparkled with a hint of mischief. The moment felt electric, and her heart swelled with joy at the sight of her beloved friend.
"Hey, Victoria!! Dino.", she greeted as she approached them.
"Mimi, what are you doing in a library? It's not even Hell's library."
Mimi laughed at her friend's question.
"I was forced to come by. Can you believe I failed a test in 'Magic Control'?"
"You failed in Magic Control?", he asked, raising his eyebrow.
"Yup, 'magic control'... But I mean, who takes that class seriously, right?", she snorted which also made Victoria giggle.
Dino shook his head, disapproving.
"Mimi, you should focus and pay more attention to your studies."
Mimi shrugged, with a nonchalant attitude and rolled her eyes.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever. You guys are just boring study bugs."
The couple watched the demoness fly off. Dino shook his head a bit at her carefree attitude.
"Mimi really is something else..."
They turned back to the study material in front of them. He scanned the yellow page where they left off and cleared his throat, trying to refocus.
"Where were we? Ah yes, the Dominions. So, after the Dominions come the Virtues."
"How are they?"
Dino explained to his girl the Virtues and their powers, focusing on the material in front of him and his studies. When he glanced at her, he was happy to see her listening intently and taking notes. Then they analyzed the remaining ranks in the hierarchy, the Powers, Principalities, Archangels, and Angels. He explained each rank, its powers, and the duties they perform within the celestial hierarchy. They made progress.
"Okay, all noted. Now I hope to remember everything. Thanks, Dino."
The angel smiled at her, glad to see that she's finally taking her studies seriously.
"No problem. Just keep focused and study hard, and I'm sure you'll do great on your test."
After countless days of diligent study and revision, Victoria Walker found herself fully immersed in her education at the Academy, a level of focus she had never displayed before. Her friends watched in astonishment as the spirited troublemaker they knew transformed into a dedicated student, a sight that was both surprising and inspiring. The motivating force behind her newfound determination was her desire to make Dino proud. And of course, to see him more often that way and perhaps get a little distracted with him, doing things they wouldn't allow to to in public. He had selflessly devoted a great deal of his time and effort to support her academic journey. With each page she turned and each concept she mastered, Victoria felt a growing sense of purpose and commitment, striving to honor his trust in her potential.
When the day finally came, she gave the test. And weeks later, she received her results and proudly showed them to the angel who never stopped believing in her. Dino couldn't help but smirk.
"Barely passed, huh?"
"Hey, at least I passed. Don't look at the grade. I passed. I passed your father's class which was a big deal for me."
"But, well... Barely, but yeah, you passed. I guess that's all that matters... for now."
"Thank you!! Thank you for your help.", she cheered and thanked him with a quick kiss.
The blonde-haired angel smiled and kissed her back, unable to resist her. Both secretly, away from prying eyes.

"Next please."
In front of the Academy gates the security was high for the safety of their new students and royal families. One of their security staff was a New Yorker Private Investigator. Lyra Rose was her name, a slim lady with her black hair tied up into a bun who wore pretty casual clothes. If only her boss wouldn't have gotten such a huge payment from this Academy, she wouldn't had to play bodyguard for some royal students. Some were surprisingly in her age.
"Name?"
"Princess Dionne Mariana Regina Dorada de Rothschild Serrano of Pavadena."
"What?? Ugghh, not so fast. Why do royals always have so long names? Could you please say it again, but slowly. Oh, you know what? Just enter. Next, please?"
"Hello there.", a handsome man was the next in line. He wore a black button-up shirt with a black suit jacket and black slacks and mischievously grinned at Lyra.
"Name?"
"You don't know me? Everyone knows who I am, gorgeous. By the way, what's your name?", the handsome stranger tried to charm her with his dashing smile and winked.
"Name, please.", the detective requested again and tried to hide her blush. Before she could pressure the man more, a crowd of girls began to scream at the sight of the mysterious gentleman.
"Ahhhh, look it's him!!! He's here!!"
"Trystan, I love you!!"
"Trystan is here?! OMG, I want to faint now!! Gosh, he's so handsome and good-looking. Is he still single?"
"Trystan Thorne, we love youuu!!!!!", they screamed and shouted.
A stream of young women and Paparazzi tried to rush inside the gate and enter the academy only to meet the man who'd been talking to Lyra Rose the whole time. The one and only, Crown Prince Trystan Sebastijan Thorne of Drakovia.
"Now you know my name.", the man chuckled.
"Shut up!" Lyra just scolded a prince without noticing and immediately sprinted towards the gate to stop these unwanted guests from entering and securing the safety of the Royal Academy students and their families.
"Hey, back off!!" a young, blond-haired man rushed to help Lyra, his new colleague, in this security task.
Both pushed the crowd aside and away from the school and its students. It took a huge effort before the unwanted guests were out and the gates closed for them.
"Woah, thanks."
"No problem."
"You new here?", the female detective raised an eyebrow at him.
"Sort of. My name's Nik. Nik Ryder.", he introduced himself and both professionally shook their hands.
"Nice to meet you, Nik. I'm Lyra Rose, also a security staff member for a short time."
Nik nodded and then both went back on their duties. Several new students strolled around admiring the majestic Academy castle and taking selfies in front of the Kenna Rys statue before checking themselves in after saying their goodbyes to their family and relatives.
"Trystan, welcome to hell.", a tall woman with red hair greeted him. It was no other than the Scarlet Duchess, Olivia Nevrakis. And the new Head of Security.
"Dear cousin, fancy meeting you here. Also, who would have thought that my parents would put me back into a school? I'm an adult!!"
"And yet you still don't act like one. My cousin in our Academy as a student?? Oh, this is going to be a fun and interesting year." she chuckled with thoughts of giving orders or humiliating his show-off cousin.
"Names, please?", Nik Ryder asked two dark-haired men before letting them inside. One was a stout man wearing a gold crown and a blue tunic with a golden pattern. The other one was slim and younger with dark-brown curly medium-length hair, hazel eyes, and also a light skin tone. He had a smaller frame or stature than the first one and also wore a golden crown, but instead a red tunic with golden patterns.
When the blonde-haired bodyguard again asked for their names, the round man rolled his eyes.
"Everyone knows who I am, commoner. Let me inside."
"Sorry, first names, then entrance. Part of the security protocol."
"I apologize for my older brother's behavior. I'm Aerin Valleros, and he's Baldur.", the slim man calmly spoke which Nik appreciated.
"It's Prince and future king, Baldur Valleros of Morella to you all.", he hissed and then secretly kicked his younger brother, almost making him stumble while Nik scanned his list, finding both names on it. After the verification process, which included checking the student's identities and making sure not to let them carry weapons around, he let them enter. Next, entered a very tall, blue-skinned man with huge pointy ears who formally presented himself as Tyril Starfury.
"You a fae?", Nik curiously asked while searching the name on his list.
"I'm an elf.", he regally spoke.
"Okay, you're ready to go. Have fun, blue man.", Nik chuckled, enjoying to give some nicknames.
He glanced towards his new colleague, Lyra, who was checking a huge orc woman. Interesting that some orc cultures also had their own monarchy.
The bodyguard quickly turned his focus back on the next pair of students, a young, red-haired boy with pointy ears, but not as huge as elves had, and a black-silvery-haired human girl. She had no pointy ears, so she was human like himself and the two princes from before. And he found her surprisingly pretty.
"Names, please?", he asked professionally.
"Lord Tialo of Lamrian.", the boy announced.
"Yup, on the list. And the lady?"
"Alexis Clarissa Fontaine. I just found out that I'm royalty. Lady of Lamrian. Tialo is my little stepbrother."
"Do not call me your brother, halfling!" the red-haired fae snapped, causing Nik to intervene. He shot a glare at the fae while gently touching her shoulder for support.
"Woah, I don't want to get caught in your whatever family drama. But this is no way you speak to her, boy. I'm warning you."
"You dare to threaten me, lowlander? Do you even know who I am? Do you even know who my father is?"
"Just doing my job here. Now get the hell outta here and let me work. You're both on the list and may enter.", he scolded which made Tialo's blood almost boil. Nobody had ever spoken to Lord Tialo like this. Nobody but an ordinary human dared to raise his voice at him.
With one last glance filled with hatred at the blonde-haired, the boy stormed off, eager to enter the building and find his dorm. The girl, Alex thanked Nik, forming a sweet smile with her cherry-red lips before entering the castle grounds.
"The Emerald Dorm? Ahh, here is it.", Astrid talked to herself while she was searching for her dorm. She had fair skin, blonde braids, and blue-green eyes. When she opened the emerald-green front door to her room, two new faces greeted her.
One was a tall, muscular, green-skinned orc woman with two fangs, a silvery nose-ring and long red hair that rested on her shoulders.
The other woman was a fair-skinned human, the same size as Astrid, with long, shimmering black-silvery hair and cherry-red lips.
Both looked friendly and warmly greeted her.
"Welcome aboard, landrat. You must be our last dormmate. I'm Imtura Al Kaleen, Princess of the Orc."
"And I'm Alexis Clarissa Fontaine, everyone calls me Alex. Just Alex is fine. Normally I was listed in the Amethyst Dorm, but then the school realized that I was the only Amethyst one. So here I am now in the Emerald Dorm. And what's your name?"
"Astrid."
"Just Astrid?", the orc curiously asked.
"Actually, Astrid Parnassus now. I just found out that I'm royalty. My ancestors ruled over the Kingdom of Parnassus and I'm their long-lost princess now. It's... a weird feeling.", she sighed.
"I know what it feels like, Astrid. Things change so rapidly in life. I also found out recently who my biological father is. He's a fae duke. I'm a half-fae and now his heir. My whole life has changed. Now I was sent here in The Royal Academy to prepare myself.", Alexis spoke with emotions before giving her a gentle hug.
"Thanks, Alexis. I still have no idea why I need to be here at all. I want to become an adventurer and discover the world."
"Right said, landrat. We'll get through this and outta here before we know it.", Imtura encouraged, pressing them into a strong embrace which almost made them hard to breathe.
Three boys were settling down in the Ruby Dorm of The Royal Academy. And none of them liked each other. And here, Prince Aerin Valleros was hoping not to share a dorm with his older brother, Baldur, who couldn't stop bullying him. The other boy in the room was Tialo, the fae who also disliked his sibling, her human stepsister. No, for Tialo Alex wasn't his sister, not even step-sister. Just some girl to run his family and steal his heritage. He hated humans, but Baldur was interesting to him, especially the way he mistreated his younger brother.
"Deliver him another kick, Baldur. This time harder!!", Tialo cheered and enjoyed the view while Baldur was punching his younger brother, almost making him bleed.
"Brother, why?", Aerin whispered weakly as he was lying under his brother on the ground. Instead of answering, he continued punching until he felt tired.
"Why are you even fighting your own brother, Baldur? Or is he your stepbrother?", Tialo asked with amusement as he saw Aerin weakly getting up.
"I'm punishing my brother because it's his fault that I'm here in this Academy. Stuck with him."
"Not true. I was hoping to avoid you here. Father... Father just tagged you with me. I only wanted to study here.", Aerin whispered again before falling to the ground again.
"Nerd!", he insulted Aerin.
Not only was Baldur stuck with Aerin in this Academy, but Tialo also felt trapped inside these walls built by humans. The fae wanted to be with his father and mother, but instead, he was here with his human step-sister and among other humans. And with that, a plan started to form in his mind.
"Hey, Baldur."
"What do you want, loser? I'm busy with punching my little brother.", he snored.
"I'm no loser, ugly human. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I want us to become allies.", Tialo confessed, which shocked both, Baldur and Aerin.
"Why?"
Pulling the older Valleros aside from Aerin, Tialo wickedly grinned, revealing his little game without letting Aerin listen.
"You and I have more in common than you think. You want to get rid of your brother and I want to get rid of that halfling."
"Halfling?"
"Long story short, the first child of my father from an ordinary woman. A bastard child. She stole my throne and my heritage."
"What's in for me?"
"Easy, with combined powers we'll get easily rid of both without letting them or anyone know. So? What do you say?"
"I agree, but I also want jewels. I know you fae have plenty of those."
"Uggh, fine. But after I got rid of her and became the Duke of Lamrian. That's the only way to provide jewels for you.", Tialo explained and Baldur agreed to become his ally.
Meanwhile, in the Saphire Dorm of the Academy...
"Why are you so blue?"
"What?"
"I asked why are you so blue?"
"What's that supposed to mean?!", Tyril, the elf, asked the muscular man with brown, shoulder-length hair.
"Nothing.", he chuckled back and high-fived with Trystan, the Drakovian Crown Prince.
"There's nothing funny with my blue skin color. You haven't met elves before, right?"
"God, I only know you guys two minutes ago and I already like you two. By the way, I'm Trystan Thorne. What are your names? "
"Tyril Starfury."
"Nice to meet you, blue man.", Trystan chuckled, which angered Tyril even more.
"First, the security staff, and now you too? Why 'blue-man' when I introduced myself as Tyril?", the elf scolded and rolled his eyes.
"And what's your name?", Trystan curiously asked the brown-haired man.
"Mal."
"From which kingdom?"
"What do you mean?", Mal asked which confused Trystan and Tyril.
"This school is for royals and nobles. Don't tell me you don't know that and sneaked inside like a thief?", the elf intervened with a suspicious look.
"What? Me and a thief??! Haha, no. Stop joking! I just told you my first name, but you didn't let me finish speaking. My name? My kingdom? Uhhh... I'm... I'm Prince Mal from... Uhh...", the suspected man chuckled nervously.
"We're listening..."
"I'm Prince Mal from... from... Corona."
"You mean that Covid-19 virus?", Trystan asked confused.
"What's that? No, I mean... I'm Prince Mal from the Kingdom of Corona and the only son of King Eugene Fitzherbert and Queen Rapunzel of Corona.", he lied, hoping his two roommates would buy him the story. He hated to lie, but he had no other choice.
"German roots. European like me, I see.", Trystan admired.
"Nice to meet you."
Mal was lucky that Trystan and Tyril believed him. Good thing that Mal's favorite fairytale just saved him and that the boys in front of him weren't familiar with it. But will one day anyone else find out and catch Mal's lie?
The 25-year-old Jacqueline Fontaine was seated at a table alone in a bar in New Orleans, called The Graveyard Shift, after an exhausting night. She was a talented and athletic nighthunteress who needed winding up after having a fight with her hunting colleague, Elijah Ryder. He believed she wasn't good enough, belittled her, and thought this job was something for men. After so many years of trusting him, she finally considered quitting.
Elijah, Jacqueline, and Tonya Reimonenq, a friend of hers. Together, these three were once the Guardians of Night who fought side by side against evil and were the most successful nighthunters in New Orleans. But after her best friend, Tonya, realized how unstoppable she was with her cursed hands, which killed every living being she touched, she decided to gain more power and betrayed the nighthunters, including Elijah and Jacqueline. While Elijah became Tonya's enemy, Jacqueline still considered her a friend. They were both close. Sometimes Tonya even encouraged her to forget him because she deserved better and was no weak, little, soft woman to get belittled by a man like Elijah Ryder. She was Jacqueline Fontaine, a woman, a lady boss. She was her own boss, not being led by any man. Because females were strong as hell. Nobody had to tell Jacqueline now what to do or not. Not even that Ryder jerk. It was time for a change. To become the controlling upper hand. To leave her nighthunting life behind, get back into business and get every men on their fucking knees. It's time to build her own empire.
"Garrus, please refill my glass!", she ordered the very young fae bartender.
A few minutes later, Garrus rushed towards her to serve her a glass of red wine.
"Anything else?"
"Yes, the apartments upstairs, which you gave me for rent... I'm leaving."
"Are you moving in with Elijah? Are you two...?", Garrus excitedly wanted to ask but got cut off.
"What?! Of course not, that's absurd. There was never anything between me and Elijah. That man just showed his true colors. I don't need him. I don't want him. And that cherry-red leather jacket he gave me...", she shouted, took off the jacket and threw it on the bartender's face.
"Jacqueline?"
"Burn that stupid jacket!!",
"But why? You wore it fae-tastic and... Alright, I'll place it in your apartment living room upstairs. If you ever change your mind."
"Never. Whoever rents your apartment next, I hope the person will make good use of that jacket.", she answered and looked away, starting to apply some red lipstick on her lips. Garrus left, giving the mildly angered woman some space.
Jacqueline Fontaine was a slim woman who wore tonight a very low-cut top, a black miniskirt and high heels, as well as a pair of hoop earrings. She took a sip from her glass of wine and attracted the gazes of many men without even noticing.
As she gazed at the people drinking and chatting in the crowded surroundings, there was an interesting man who was staring at her. He was tall, handsome, and looked young, just like her. He had a light skin color, and his long, silvery hair rested on his shoulders. And the mysterious man had pointy ears and his eyes had the color of blue ice. Calming and charming.
"But that's a fae.", she recognized him through the glamour spell. The glamour spell was used by supernatural beings to hide their true identities from humans. But Jacqueline was a nighthunter, a former nighthunter who was aware of the supernatural world. She wore a charm in the form of an amulet to see everyone's true form. Garrus, the fae bartender and now him... The mysterious and attractive fae who caught her attention.
The man smiled as he found Jacqueline's gaze stopped on his lips. He approached closer, leaned against the table, and watched the beautiful woman. His lips curved into a smile, and he tilted his head to the side.
"You're alone tonight, milady."
"You too, handsome. But not anymore.", she answered seductively and winked.
"What's your name, beautiful?"
"Jacqueline. Jacqueline Fontaine. And you are...?"
"Elric.", he answered, which stunned the woman.
"Elric? Lord Elric of Lamrian?"
"You know me? And you can see me?"
"I'm aware of the existence of the World of Night, but do not fear. I'm a good person and will keep this world and your world hidden from other humans' eyes. I'm a Guardian of the Night.", she assured, which calmed Elric down.
"Then I'm happy to show you my true form. And Jacqueline is such a delicate name. May I order some drinks for us? I'll pay.", he asked like a gentleman, but Jacqueline declined. She wouldn't want to risk getting drunk in front of such a beautiful and honorable man. Lord Elric, a fae duke who ruled in Lamrian with justice, pride, and love for his people. Both led an interesting conversation, getting to know each other better. While the fae was impressed by Jacqueline's violin skills, she couldn't help but ask more questions. The man was calm, patient, and soft, something that Jacqueline never thought a man could be. He was special and different from other men. She even allowed him to stroke her pet snake, Slitter, which was something Elijah would never want to do. The green, little snake was only a few days old and rested calmly on her bare shoulder.
"Lord Elric..."
"Please, just Elric is fine."
"Alright Elric, what pulls a handsome and young duke like you away from his luxurious life in the beautiful fae realm to this little bar in the bring human world?", she asked while batting with her eyelashes.
"Believe it or not, but the royal fae life in the fae realm can bore me too, that's why I'm here to unwind. Like with a beautiful woman like you.", he playfully answered while stroking her cherry-red lips.
"I could use some distraction too. But you're married. What about your wife, Lady Thalissa?"
"My darling Thalissa knows, I promise you that. We may often find changing partners in beds normal, but we always stay true and honest to our life partners. Well, that's how I am. I can't say anything about others. But be assured, my wife knows about me and has granted permission. Now it's up to you to decide."
Upstairs in Jacqueline's apartment, they were kissing. The lord pressed her against the door, hands exploring her body, his fingers pulling at the fabric of the miniskirt. She saw magic in his eyes. Dark and dirty one.
"Oh Elric, I need you. I want you.", Jacqueline moaned.
"As do I, my beauty."
The man picked her up and laid her on her bed, climbing on top of her and running his tongue over her neck. He pushed the light blouse aside, leaving her bare skin exposed. Kissing and biting her neck, she wrapped her arms and legs around him which made him passionately groan against her skin with love and lust.
"Jacqueline..."
His lips moved down, across her neck and collarbone. The fae continued further down to her cleavage as he began to unbutton the rest of her blouse, revealing more and more skin that he started to kiss and bite.
He tugged her light blouse down and threw it to the side. Jacqueline bit her lip and closed her eyes, enjoying the feeling of his hands and tongue on her skin.
"God, Elric, if you weren't married already... You'd be mine. Only mine. I love you. I love you from the moment my eyes landed on you."
"I love you, too. It's not lust, but only love. Love and nothing else, my beauty. I wouldn't have done it with you tonight if I were forced to hide my true fae form. That would not be right, my queen."
"Elric... I need more!! Please, I beg you. Take me. I beg you.", she requested more than once.
"With pleasure."
He began to unbutton his garments as he continued to kiss and caress her skin. He pulled his expensive fabric off and threw it next to her blouse. She ran her hands over his naked chest and stomach, pulling him closer. Her lips met his in a deep passionate kiss while her fingers tugged at his undergarments.
The man groaned, breaking the kiss for a moment. He kissed her again, hungrily. His hands moved to her skirt, he pulled at the fabric.
"Take it off, love.", he gently whispered against her lips. His hands were beginning to slide up her thighs, pulling at the miniskirt. He lifted it up above her waist, exposing her black lace panties. He let out a moan and pressed himself against her, biting her lip. Jacqueline Fontaine was a hot and attractive lady who didn't allow any men to dominate her, but Elric was diffwrent.
She let out a soft moan and tilted her hips, grinding herself against him, causing more friction. She ran her hands across his chest, caressing the hot skin there. Her nails dug into his back, making him shiver.
"Elric..."
"You are very eager, my Jacqueline.", he huskily spoke against her ear. The duke of Lamrian began to nip at the skin of the lady's neck and collarbone, leaving slight marks there. His hands continued to touch her legs, one of them even slipped under her panties, causing her to gasp.
"Ohh, you're sooo good."
"And you're so sensitive.", he teased, his voice deep and hoarse. He began to rub his fingers against her, causing a soft moan to escape her attractive lips. Elric pushed her legs open as he nipped and bit her skin. His free hand grabbed one of her wrists, pinning it down onto the bed.
"My love. I promise after this, there will be no other women than you and Thalissa. I promise."
"Oh, Elric..."
"Are you feeling good, Jacqueline? Tell me if I should stop because I don't want to hurt you, love."
"I love it. I love you, Elric. You're like a god.", she silently chanted.
The woman closed her eyes, enjoying the sensation of his touch and his teeth on her skin. She tried to move her hand, but his grip was strong. He pinned it to the bed above her head.
"Ohhh..."
He continued to caress her with one hand, his lips attached to her neck. He nipped at the sensitive skin there, she arched herself off the bed. She let out a soft and needy little moan as his fingers continued to rub against her till they parted the next morning.
Weeks later, Jacqueline Fontaine was walking through the streets of New York with a bundle of important documents in her hand. Leaving her nighthunting career, her old friends and life in New Orleans behind, she moved on. She wore a gray skirt and a maroon blouse, high-heeled shoes and light make-up. Her hair was perfectly styled and she looked as elegant as usual, despite having a rather tired look on her face.
"Always work, but that doesn't matter. I'm a successful accountant and money loves me. And perhaps he too.", she talked to herself.
Jacqueline tried to hide it. She constantly looked in her new boss's direction, her eyes following him as they lingered on his form. She blushed whenever they spoke, her heart fluttered a little faster when he smiled. Despite her efforts to seem indifferent, she craved his attention and secretly hoped he would reciprocate her feelings. But unfortunately, he was just her new boss. Such a kind man, she wouldn't want to ruin her reputation or create an office scandal, even though secretly romancing him would spice up her boring life with new excitement.
"Good morning, Mister Fairchild.", she gretted him and blushed a little.
"Good morning, Miss Fontaine.", the man professionally greeted her with a charming smile which almost turned her legs weak.
"Sir, I'm very grateful to have you as my new boss."
"Really, Miss Fontaine? How so?", he asked and raised his eyebrow.
"Sorry, I mean... The whole staff is grateful to have. Not just me, but the whole staff. You're young like me, friendly and such a refreshment for our company and... I... My apologies, I'd better get back to work. If you need anything, just anything, I'd be happy to help.", she tried to talk her way out and left. It was difficult for her not to start flirting with a dashing man like him.
Days later, in Jacqueline's office, her eyes widened as the doctor just called her to tell her the results. She didn't know if she should be happy or scared. She knew she loved Elric and she thought he loved her, but this news brought mixed emotions. She felt a strange mixture. She was scared of telling him. She didn't even know how he would react.
"So that's the reason for my vomiting and feeling of sickness. I'm... I'm... Oh no, what should I do?", the always attractive and confident woman now felt weak and broken. She began to cry.
The door to her office opened, and her boss, Mr. Christian Fairchild, CEO of a pharmacy company, walked in. He closed the door behind him, approached and glanced at her with one of her best staff with a concerned expression.
"Miss Fontaine? I apologize for the disturbance, but is everything alright? I only wanted to hand over your paperwork back, but you seem troubled.", he spoke in a soothing and gentle tone.
"I... I...", she sobbed, while trying to compose herself, not wanting to show any men her weakness.
His eyebrows furrowed, he walked over to her desk. He put a hand on her shoulder and looked at her closely.
"Are you okay? You look upset..."
"I did something stupid."
"What is it? Whatever it is, I'm sure we can fix it."
"No, we can't. I'm sorry."
"I will help you, just say it."
"No... No, you can't. Because I'm carrying a child.", Jacqueline confessed, not wanting to meet his gaze.
Her boss, Christian Fairchild, froze and blinked at her, a mixture of surprise and disbelief crossing his face. He stared at her for a moment, processing the information.
"You're... you're pregnant?!!"
"From a one-night stand with a man I love. But I'm still single and available. It... It happened in New Orleans."
He exhaled slowly and ran a hand through his brown hair as he didn't see that coming. He took a look at her, studying her face and trying to piece together his thoughts.
"You're still single, right?"
"Yes."
"Who is the father?"
"Elric. He lives 8 hours away from us. It was just a one-night stand. It should not have happened."
Christian swallowed, his mind reeling to process the information. The man secretly had a crush on Jacqueline, but the news had taken him by surprise. He felt a pang of jealousy and uncertainty, but he tried to push it down.
"So... you're not together? Right?"
"No, Elric was married already".
His expression hardened slightly, a look of anger and disappointment on his face. He stood up straight.
"He's married? And he slept with you?"
"His wife allowed him that. Elric is a good man and would never cheat."
Mister Fairchild took a deep, heavy breath. He tried to keep calm, but it was difficult. He ran his hands through his hair, trying to control his emotions. He had complicated feelings at the moment.
"So... you're telling me you're pregnant with the child of a married man whom you had a one-night stand with?"
"Yes, sir. But why do I have a feeling that it bothers you somehow?", she asked with curiosity as her sobs subsided.
He closed his eyes, trying to take a moment to absorb the information. He exhaled heavily and looked at her again.
"And you say you love him?"
"Yes, but I can't be with him. I will have to move on."
Christian tried to hide his feelings. He was secretly attracted to her himself, but he had never acted on it. Now, the fact that she had slept with another man and was now pregnant with his child caused a mix of emotions.
"And you're the one who initiated the one-night stand, or was it him?"
"It was me."
"Does he know?"
"I just found out, Mister Fairchild. But I won't tell him."
"But that's his baby too, Jacqueline.", he argued without noticing that he used her first name instead of being formal to address her by her surname.
"I just randomly met him. I don't know how he or his wife would react. Would he even accept the child in his society? Besides, I'm not sure the way he lives would be good for the child. He lives very far away. So I will have to raise the baby alone."
Her new boss exhaled heavily, his mind a jumble of thoughts and feelings. He couldn't help but think about his own feelings for her. But he tried to push them aside, to focus on Jacqueline and her circumstances.
"Are you sure you want to do this alone?"
"Yes, I have to. It's my fault.", she sobbed again.
Christian looked at her, studying her face carefully. His heart ached a bit, seeing the determined and stubborn look on her face. The young boss tried to hide his feelings, not wanting to complicate things further.
"It's a difficult journey to do alone. You're only 25 years young."
"I know.", she answered after she calmed herself down.
The man sighed and leaned against the desk, looking at her.
"Have you thought this through? Have you thought about raising a child on your own?"
"No, but now I have to."
The businessman exhaled heavily, running a hand through his chestnut-brown hair. He felt a mix of emotions, but he tried to remain level-headed.
"You don't have to do anything. There are other options, you know."
"Like?"
The about 30-year-old boss of Jacqueline took a deep breath, hesitating before speaking. He wasn't sure if he should say the words that were on the tip of his tongue, but he couldn't hold them back any longer.
"Like... like me. I could help you."
"Really? How, Mister Fairchild?"
"Please, call me Christian. I could be there for you and the child, Jacqueline. I care for you, and I can't stand the thought of you going through this alone."
"Oh, Christian, I care for you too. I like you.", she finally confessed her true feelings after she found out that he felt the same way. Even though she carried the child of another man, he was gentle and loving. He loved her.
The man swallowed, his emotions growing stronger as he heard her words. He longed to tell her the truth about his feelings for so long. Now in that moment, he wanted nothing more than to take her into his arms and confess everything at once. But he held himself a little back, knowing that the situation was complicated.
"I want to help you, Jacqueline. I want to be there for you and the child. We can figure this out together. I promise. You're not in this alone, my Jacqueline.", he promised while brushing the last remaining tears away from her rosy cheek. A new beginning awaited for both of them.
As the new relationship between Christian and Jacqueline grew, so did their bond. He found it harder and harder to deny his feelings. Even though she was pregnant with someone else's child. He couldn't help but feel only love for her. He knew it was complicated, he knew it was unconventional, but he didn't care. He didn't care about their relationship as boyfriend and girlfriend getting public in their workplace, and the reaction of their co-workers. All he knew was that he wanted her, he wanted to be with her.
Despite the risks and the complications, they became a strong couple. He treated her like a queen, which made Jacqueline realize that not all men are the same, and that they do not underestimate women. Elric and Christian were her exceptions. The 30-year-old Christian made sure she was comfortable and safe, taking care of her every need.
As she grew closer to the due date, Christian found himself getting more and more excited. Despite knowing the child wasn't his, he had grown to love it like it was his own. He spent time talking to her belly, feeling the kicks and movements. He was present for every doctor's appointment, supporting her through every step.
When the due date finally arrived, he was there by her side, holding her hand through the pain. And after a long and tiring labor, the little child was born on February 26th 2019. It was a beautiful and healthy baby girl whom they named Alexis, with a second name added. Since Jacqueline was unmarried, the child carried her surname. Alexis Clarissa Fontaine was the baby's full name.
They held the baby girl in his arms, looked down at her tiny face. She was perfect. Despite everything, he felt a deep sense of love and protectiveness towards her. He glanced at Jacqueline, seeing the exhaustion on her face, but also the pride and joy in her eyes.
"She's beautiful. I will adopt her and become her father."
Months have already passed, and life with a baby was a constant whirlwind of love and exhaustion. He had settled into his role as a father figure, loving and caring for Alexis just like a parent. He supported Jacqueline in everything, being there for them through every late-night feeding, every diaper change, and every milestone. Despite the situation, he was happier than he had ever been before.
Although they faced challenges and the occasional difficult moment, he was determined to be there for them. To be the best partner and parent he could be.
"Papa?", the baby girl called Christian for the first time.
"Did you just call me your Papa?"
"Papa! Mama!", Alexis called again.
The man leaned down closer to the baby still in Jacqueline's arms, smiling at the little girl. He touched her cheek gently, feeling overwhelmed with emotion.
The baby looked up at him, her tiny face lit up with a sweet smile. She reached out her tiny hand towards him, and he took it in his, feeling a rush of love and protectiveness. This little girl had claimed a special place in his heart, and he would do anything to protect her.
"Yes, I'm your father. And I love you, my child.", Christian gently whispered his blue eyes admiring the little Alexis.
The day of the wedding had finally arrived. Christian Fairchild felt a mixture of excitement and nerves as he stood at the altar, waiting for Jacqueline to walk down the aisle. He couldn't help but think about everything they had been through together. The unexpected love, the struggles, and now, this beautiful chapter in their lives.
When his bride appeared, walking towards him in her white wedding dress, his heart skipped a beat. She looked stunning as always and was the most beautiful woman in the world for him.
"Christian Fairchild, do you take Jacqueline Fontaine as your lawful wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and cherish until death do you part?", the priest spoke.
"Yes!"
"Jacqueline Fontaine, do you take Christian Fairchild as your lawful husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and cherish until death do you part?"
"I do."
After the ceremony, they shared their first dance as a married couple. He held her close, their bodies moving together in synch. He couldn't believe this moment was real, that she was his wife, and that they had built a beautiful life together, despite the unlikely start.
He whispered into her ear as they danced, his voice filled with tenderness and love.
"I cannot believe you're my wife... You're the most beautiful woman in the world, and I'm the luckiest man alive to have you. I love you more than words can say. And I love our baby Alexis."
Years had passed since their wedding day. They had built a beautiful life together as a family, growing and learning, making beautiful memories along the way. Alexis was a young girl now, a lively and bright child who was a constant source of joy. She was mysteriously born with black-silvery, fair skin and beautiful brown eyes. With every passing day, his love for Jacqueline only grew stronger. She was his rock, his partner, and the love of his life. He couldn't imagine life without her, or without their beautiful family.
"Daddy! Daddy!", little Alexis rushed towards her adoptive father, Christian Fairchild.
"Yes, my princess. What is it?", he tenderly asked with a smile.
"Can I have a ride on you? You're my horse now.", she innocently requested to play with him.
"Of course, you can. Your father may be a businessman, but I'd do anything for you. You're my Alexis. Now hop on me."
"Yayy!!"
The man kneeled infront of her and felt her little hands hold onto his shoulders as she climbed onto his back. He stood up, supporting her weight and holding her legs securely.
"Hold tight, darling, we're going on a ride."
He began to move forward, walking slowly, feeling the weight of his little girl on his back. He could hear her giggles and laughter as they moved, and he couldn't help but smile. He felt a sense of joy and completeness that only being a parent could give him.
"Eekkk..."
He continued to walk, his steps steady and strong. He could feel the excitement in her voice, the happiness in her laughter. It was moments like these that he would cherish forever.
"Are you having fun, princess?"
"Yes."
"I'm glad you're enjoying the ride, darling. You're my special little passenger."
"Horses don't talk."
The man chuckled at her comment, amused by her innocent observation.
"You're right, horses don't talk. I'm not a real horse after all. I'm your Daddy."
"Daddy, can I have a real horse? Please."
The adoptive father considered her request for a moment, a smile still on his face.
"A real horse, hmm? Well, sweetheart, we can talk about that. Maybe when you're a bit older, we can think about having a real horse. For now, you'll have to settle for riding me."
"Okay."
Christian continued walking, the weight of his daughter on his back. He treasured this moment, knowing that these moments of carefree joy and innocence would pass all too quickly. When he suddenly felt her attempt to climb down from his back. He stopped walking and carefully helped her down, making sure she had her footing.
"There you go, darling. Everything okay?"
"I forgot... Mommy wants me for violin lessons upstairs. I feel like mommy doesn't feel proud of me and doesn't like me anymore."
The man felt a pang in his heart at her words. Hearing her say that made him worry and hurt.
"Oh, sweetheart, what makes you say that? Why do you think your mommy doesn't feel proud of you?"
"Nothing.", little Alexis looked down on the floor.
He gently reached out, lifting her chin to look into her brown eyes.
"Darling, you can tell me anything. You know that, right? If something is bothering you, you can talk to me."
The sound of high-heels signaled that his wife, Jacqueline was appearing.
"Oh, here's your mommy now.", Christian informed the girl.
The man noticed the look on Jacqueline's face, realizing she wasn't happy with his actions. For Jacqueline, people from the high elite like them don't play on the floor or act silly around. He was a businessman and her husband. Christian stood up, dusting off his clothes.
"Is there a problem, my love? I was just playing with our wonderful girl."
"Mommy! Mommy!", Alexis was calling for her mother's attention.
"Yes, sweetheart?"
"I couldn't find my violin, mommy."
"Your violin is in the music room, where it always is, dear. Now go fetch it for your lesson."
"Can I play with daddy instead?"
"No, you cannot. You need to practice your violin. Your lessons come first. And your daddy has work to do in his office."
"Oh, okay."
"Good girl, hurry upstairs. I'll be joining you soon in the music room.", Jacqueline cheered.
He could see the disappointment on his little girl's face, and it tugged at his heart.
"Alexis, you'll have time to play with me after your practice. I promise. You know how important your violin lessons are, right?"
"Yes, daddy."
He ruffled her silvery-black hair affectionately.
"Good girl. Now, go grab your violin and start practicing. Mommy and I will listen to your beautiful music later."
The little girl nodded and ran off to the music room. He watched her go, his heart heavy. He knew how much Alexis wanted to play and spend time with him, but he also understood Jacqueline's insistence on her violin practice. It was special and important to her. Because Alexis didn't want to disappoint her mother. Never.

Nik Ryder adjusted his blond hair while speaking to his comrade, Cal Lowell. Both were heroic and handsome musketeers.
"Are you ready to go, Cal?"
"Yup, I am ready. Let's go."
Both men were riding on their horses down the cobblestone path to patrol a small village. Nik sat on a majestic, white stallion while Cal was riding a strong, brown one. Both well-groomed horses from The Royal Stables were trained by Katherine, the stable girl.
"Keep your guard up, Cal. You don't know what might happen.", Nik spoke.
"Don't worry, I have my saber. Besides, I know you have my back.", Cal, the dark-blue musketeer answered while patting the sword sheath on hip.
"Hey, wait! Wait for me!"
Nik and Cal stopped and turned to look behind them, as a young woman hurried after them.
"Why is a pretty lady following us?"
"I'm pretty? Well, whatever... I want to become a musketeer too. The first female musketeer. Let me join you two on your quests and fight evil."
Nik seemed a little skeptical, raising an eyebrow, trying not to laugh at her.
"That's quite unexpected... Aren't you just a simple flower girl? And besides, what makes you think you have what it takes to be a musketeer, miss?"
"I'm more athletic than other women.", she answered with pride.
The blond-haired man crossed his arms, still looking skeptical.
"And? That doesn't necessarily mean you can handle the dangers and challenges of being a musketeer."
"But I trained for years!!"
"Is that so? And what weapons do you know how to use?"
"Uhhh..."
Nik stifled a chuckle while his comrade, Cal tried to stay respective.
"You don't know how to use any weapons, do you?"
"Shut up!!! I do practise sword fighting with Katherine. You men always think a woman can't do anything. Always!!", she yelled.
Her loud tone made Nik raise his hands defensively.
"Hey, hey, calm down, miss. I never said you couldn't. It's just unusual to find a woman interested and prepared for such a risky job."
"This miss has a name. My name is Alex and I'm ready."
Nik's silvery eyes bored into her hazel-brown eyes, seeing determination and stubbornness. Cal sensed it too.
"Alright, you are so sure about this. How about a little test then?"
"Nik, don't...", Cal tried to argue but Alex cut him off.
"Yes gentleman, I'm ready."
Nik smirked.
"Very well. You say you're athletic. I'm going to trust you in that. Your challenge will include running."
"Okay."
Nearby, a small park nearby stood out and he pointed towards the green area.
"See that veryyy large park? I want you to go do a round around it. As soon as you finish it you come back to us. Understood?"
"I'm fast."
"Speed? And what about endurance? Well, I'll see for myself. Ready, set, go!!"
A slightly mocking smile was spread on the face of the green musketeer. He and Cal watched as the young lady started running fast around the park. Cal watched her run, impressed by her initial speed, but as they waited for her to return, they began to notice that she was starting to slow down.
Nik let out a low chuckle as she returned back to their side, quite panting from the effort.
"Looks like someone overestimated herself. Am I right?"
"Shut up!"
The man rolled his silvery-blue eyes, unfazed by her comment.
"Calm down, I'm just teasing you. It wouldn't be easy to become a musketeer. And this was just a running test, the rest is much more difficult."
"Hmmpph, I don't need to prove to you I'm good. I will become a musketeer anyway."
Nik just shrugged nonchalantly as both men watched her leaving in anger.
"She is quite stubborn, isn't she?"
"That's for sure, Nik. But she's also pretty cute."
"Yeah... well..."
The tall, bulky man nudged him.
"So... What do you think? Did she win your heart, Nik?"
"Oh, please. Just because she's cute doesn't mean I've fallen in love all of a sudden, Cal.", he answered, rolling his eyes which made his friend grin.
"Who can blame you? She has beautiful eyes, and that fiery personality of hers is kinda enticing."
"Even if it's little annoying?"
"That's up to you to decide, bro."

Later that day, the sun began to set. The two musketeers were sitting on a bench, tired from their missions and their training sessions on the castle grounds. They were both drinking from a flask of water. Cal sighed, resting his head against the back of the bench.
"It has been quite a tiring day, don't you think, Nik?"
"You can say that again. My muscles are sore from today's training. And we still have to continue.", Nik informed, rubbing his tired eyes. His friend, Cal stretched his arms up in the air with a groan.
"I wonder what that pretty little lady is doing."
Nik remained cool and indifferent, though a slight pang of jealousy did somehow bother him at the mention of Alex and he didn't even know why. Why did Cal's interest in that girl suddenly bother him? Cal was his companion and Alex was just a pretty girl he just met today. He didn't know her at all. Pretty girl? Does he find her pretty? Questions, questions, and confusions filled his mind, which he tried to clear.
"Why are you even thinking about her, Cal? I don't care. I don't care about that girl. Who knows, probably practicing her nonexistent skills and complaining that she wasn't successful."

Alexis entered the grand halls of the royal palace, her eyes scanning the exquisite decorations and elegant courtiers who passed by. She was clearly out of place among the high-society women dressed in luxurious dresses.
She couldn't help but be impressed by the opulence surrounding her. The high marble ceilings, the decorative details in gold, and the soft music that played in the distance. Everywhere she looks is a new spectacle of luxury.
"Hmmm, perhaps I could sneak inside and watch musketeers train. Only to learn and copy, of course."
As the young woman continued to sneak inside, she noticed armed guards patrolling the halls. It would be difficult to get close to any place reserved for the musketeers without being noticed.
"I can do it. I want to be a musketeer."
Taking a deep breath, determined, she searched for a discreet path, trying to avoid the watchful gaze of the guards. Hiding behind a column, she observed the guards' movements, waiting for the perfect moment. An opportunity presented itself when the guards' attention was momentarily diverted. The girl slipped through the halls, moving quickly but quietly, blending into the shadows, and making her way to the area where musketeers trained. As she arrived in a courtyard where she discovered the musketeers training. Their weapons gleamed under the fading sunlight. They spared and practiced combat techniques, their movements graceful with power and energy. It was a very fascinating view, watching them train in awe. She felt the adrenaline coursing through her veins, imagining herself using weapons and defending the innocent, like those fearless soldiers in front of her. Alexis, the musketeer. Wearing a fashionable outfit and gracefully sword fighting against men. She could imagine it already. Shaking her head and waking up from her daydreaming, the lady discovered from afar Nik and Cal in a more secluded corner of the courtyard, taking a break from their training. They sit and talk, enjoying each other's company and sharing jokes, unaware of her presence observing them.
Unconsciously, Alex's gaze was fixed on Nik. There's something about him that fascinated her. His confident demeanor, his sharp gaze, his strong and muscular physique. It's all very attractive in its own way even if she felt annoyed by him. She continued to watch from the shadows as her mind raced with determination and a hint of admiration for the blonde-haired musketeer. Watching him laugh with his friend, seeing his easygoing and cool personality. She couldn't help but feel her heart skip a beat. Even though she refused to admit it.
"No, focus. Stay focused, Alex."
She shook her head to clear her mind. This was no time to get distracted by a young, handsome man. Taking a deep breath, she forced herself to stop admiring him and refocused on her goal. She watched the training exercises carefully, trying to learn as much as possible from the way the musketeers used their weapons to fight and defended themselves. She took mental notes, analyzing their moves, their strategies. Determined to become as good as them, maybe even better.
But somehow her mind drifted back to Nik, and against her will, she found herself stealing glances at him from time to time again. The young man seemed so confident and skilled, wielding his weapons with precision and speed. Seeing his muscles flex made her cheeks flush, and she quickly looked away, scolding herself for letting her thoughts wander in a different direction. She couldn't let her distract herself from her goal, especially for the man who doubted the most on her. She was here to observe and learn, not to fall for some guy who probably wouldn't give her a second look anyway.
The girl checked the sky, noticing that it was getting darker. It was time for her to leave before someone noticed her presence. Taking one last look at the training musketeers, with one last glance at Nik and his friend, she sneaked out of the courtyard, moving quickly and quietly, avoiding the guards and the people around.
As she exited the courtyard and re-entered the palace halls, she suddenly heard a commotion coming from the throne room. Concerned, she decided to hide behind a pillar and listen carefully.
"Hmmmm, what's going on?" she whispered to herself and tried to focus on the voices.
Several people were speaking in hushed tones. They seem to be engaged in a whispered conversation, their words too low to be understood clearly. But Alex was able to catch some pieces of the exchange, enough to make her tense.
The mention of treachery, the upcoming Masquerade Ball and an attempt to overthrow the king made her blood run cold. She didn't know who these people were or what they were planning, but she could sense the dangerous implications of their words. She continued to listen. Further, her heart beat faster as she tried to make out the details of the discussion. But the voices were still too faint, and she could only catch some fragments of the dialogue.
Then she hurried through the halls, her mind focused on the critical mission of warning the musketeers about the attempted coup. She ran as fast as her legs allowed her, her heart pounded with urgency. When she arrived back at the area where she saw the musketeers training before, she searched for Nik and his friend, Cal, among the men.
"Nik! Cal!"
Every musketeer exchanged curious glances, surprised to see a young woman in their training grounds. They didn't expect that, and especially not to be yelling at them urgently. Nik Ryder raised an eyebrow, looking at her with a mix of surprise and slight irritation. He walked towards her, curious to know what all this commotion was about. As he approached her, Alex took a moment to catch her breath, feeling a bit intimidated by the presence of all the men in sweat around her, but too worried to let it stop her.
Nik looked at her, his expression serious and a bit defensive.
"You again? What are you doing here? This is no place for a woman."
"Listen... I... The King... The Duke..."
Nik and the others exchanged confused glances, not sure what to make of her rushed words. They watched her expectantly, waiting for a clearer explanation.
"I... Nik, the King is in danger."
That statement immediately grabbed everyone's focus and full attention. Their expressions turned serious, immediately on high alert.
"What do you mean the King is in danger?"
"I heard how the Duke wants to dethrone our King Elric of Lamrian."
"Are you sure about this?"
"I just heard this with my own ears. Duke Richards is no supporter to the Crown and our Kingdom."
Nik looked at her intently, trying to evaluate the truth of her words. It was not every day that a young woman appeared with such an urgent and serious warning.
Unfortunately, the other musketeers were too hesitant to take her seriously. After all, she was just a young woman outside the palace and it's suspicious that she overhearded such plans.
"Are you sure, milady?"
"I heard this. It's true! Please do something.", she begged at the men.
Nik held up a hand to signal the other men to quiet down to focus. He studied Alex intently, his gaze sharp and penetrating, trying to discern if she was telling the truth or not.
"Nik, please..." she whispered.
He looked at her, his expression still serious but there's a hint of doubt in his eyes.
"Why should we believe you?"
"Nik?? Seriously? Don't you trust me? What about you, Cal?"
Cal stepped forward, still eyeing her with a doubtful expression.
"Listen, milady, don't understand us wrong, but... I'm sorry. The Duke and our King have always been supportive of us musketeers. Just last week, the Duke declared to give half of the musketeers longer vacation."
"Of course, he would do that so that King Elric has less security. Okay, fine. Don't believe me, fake heroes. I'm on my own now."
"It's not..."
"Shut up!! I always admired the musketeers especially you two. Nik Ryder, the green musketeer. The strong leading musketeer who is well-trained, brave, and the best musketeer this kingdom has. And Cal, the dark-blue musketeer with a heart of gold who always supports the people of the lower class, respects women and is every child's favorite. You two were my role models. But now..."
They watched her leave. Nik was torn between doubting her words and feeling a pang of guilt for not taking her seriously. The other musketeers exchanged glances, some of them shaking their heads, still unconvinced by her warning. But a small part of them couldn't help but wonder if there might have been some truth to her words.

Days later, there was a celebration held in the royal palace. The grand ballroom was lavishly decorated, and the guests were dressed in their finest attire. The atmosphere was one of elegance and sophistication, with music, champagne, and conversations flowing throughout the room. Musketeer Nik and Musketeer Cal were present and on duty. Both looked dashing as always in their uniforms. They mingled with some other musketeers, talking and drinking. Despite the festive atmosphere, both were on high alert, keeping an eye on the guests.
Many of them were wearing masks or elaborate disguises, adding another layer of mystery to the festivities. The ball was in full swing, the orchestra playing beautiful music, and couples dancing elegantly throughout the room.
The green and the blue musketeer, Nik and Cal stood by a wall, drinking and talking amongst themselves. They wore masks as well, which added a touch of intrigue and anonymity to their presence, watching the guests and discreetly looking for any signs of suspicious behavior.
In the center of the ballroom, King Elric and other royals were present, engaged in cheerful conversations with other guests. The Duke was also amongst them, chatting with the King and other nobles with a smile on his face. Nik and Cal watched the scene from afar, noticing the duke's presence and his proximity to the king. They exchanged glances, a feeling of unease growing within them.
"What do you think, Nik? Was Alex serious that day?"
"I don't know."
"But the king and the duke seem to get along well, right? On the other hand, Alex..."
"Cal, let's just focus on the presence. We're on duty."
"Right."
Nik and Cal were too engaged in the crowd to notice her. Their focus is on the duke and the king's conversation. Alexis managed to sneak in unnoticed, blending in amongst the guests in elaborate disguises. She was wearing an elegant, bejeweled pink gown with a matching mask. Something she would have never afforded by herself, but it was thanks to her generous friend, Vera who worked as a tailor and knew about the plan. She designed that gorgeous gown only for her, which made the young lady look like a real royalty. She perfectly blended in among the crowd. Even a few men driven by her beauty, tried to invite her for a dance, but she successfully escaped them.
"Starting Mission Save the King!! Now, where could the King and the Duke be?" she mumbled to herself.
Alexus scanned her surroundings, trying to spot the duke amongst the crowd of masks and elegant attire. As she moved discreetly through the crowd, she finally spotted Duke Richards in a secluded corner, engaged in a conversation with another courtier.
Suddenly, the music changed to a waltz, and the couples on the dance floor began to move in time with the music. The atmosphere in the room became more elegant and romantic, as the dancers swirled across the floor.
Nik and Cal watched the dancers, talking quietly amongst themselves as they kept an eye on the Duke. Cal tried to steal a glance at some of the female guests, especially the ones dancing gracefully.
Nik noticed his gaze, amused by his friend's distraction.
"Cal, you're supposed to be focused, not appreciating the dancing ladies."
"I can appreciate and focus, Nik! Don't underestimate my multitasking skills."
The ballroom was filled with couples dancing elegantly, their movements synchronized to the music. Amidst them, Alex stood alone, watching the scene with a hint of wistfulness. She looked envious, wishing to be part of the festivities and to dance like the rest. But she's on a mission, and that took priority over her personal desires.
The Lady in Pink moved through the dancers, trying to get closer to the Duke without drawing too much attention to herself. She moves elegantly, hiding her real intentions behind her disguise and the dance moves.
As she danced closer to the duke, she eavesdroped on his conversation with the courtier, trying to overhear any crucial information they might be discussing. She caught snippets of their conversation about some suspicious plans. It appeared that Duke Richards was indeed plotting something against His Majesty, King Elric of Lamrian. Her hazel-brown eyes widened as she listened intently, trying to catch every word.
As she danced, her heart raced with the information she'd just overheard. The music and the atmosphere around her fade into the background as she becomes hyper-aware of the words spoken by the duke and the courtier.
"Oh no. I heard right."
When the duke excused himself from the courtier and turned to lead the king away towards the secluded corner, presumably to continue their conversation in private.
Alexis moves too, following them from afar. She tried to keep a safe distance but close enough to keep an ear on their conversation.
Nik and Cal, who had been observing the ballroom, notice a woman in a pink gown suddenly start running. They exchanged a perplexed look, unsure of what has startled her.
They watch as she dashed across the ballroom, moving quickly and purposefully. The other guests started to notice the commotion, and some even stop dancing or whispering amongst themselves, curious about what's happening.
Immediately, Nik and Cal excused themselves and quickly followed the disguised Alex, trying to get an idea of what's going on and what's causing her to act so urgently.
They moved through the crowd, trying to keep up with her pace. The other guests parted to let them pass, giving confused looks and whispers as they saw the two most respected musketeers in pursuit. When Alex approached the secluded corner, she discovered the Duke brandishing his sword and pointing it at the king. King Elric was shocked and confused, taken aback by the weapon directed at him. Alex stopped for a moment, stunned and horrified by the scene unfolding in front of her. Her heart leaped into her throat as she realized the danger the king was in.
"No, stop!! Let your sword fall, Duke Richards! I'm here to save his Majesty. Surrender!!" she shouted and revealed her own sword, which was hidden under her gown. The sharp tip pointed towards the duke.
The evil duke looked up, surprised by her sudden appearance. He eyeed her with a mix of annoyance and suspicion, but his sword remained pointed at the king.
"And who are you?"
"Alexis, I'm here to save His Majesty and I also want to become a musketeer."
"A woman with a weapon? Hah! What are you going to do? Poke me to death", the evil man joked, not taking her seriously.
Alex and the Duke clashed their blades together. Despite the duke's initial arrogance, he was a skilled swordsman, and he fought with precision and speed. Alex parried and blocked the duke's blows, her years of training evident in her every move. She was not as strong as him, but she was agile and quick, using her speed to compensate for the difference in strength.
"I trained for years to become a musketeer, Duke Richards. And I was the one who found out about your plan."
The duke attacked again, his expression growing more frustrated as he slowly began to realize that Alex was not as easy to underestimate as he had initially thought.
"I won't let you ruin everything!"
"You seriously want to harm a woman, Duke Richards?"
"I don't have a problem killing anyone who stands in my way to become King."
The old man lunged forward, aiming a vicious blow at Alex's midsection. She barely managed to deflect the attack, the force of it sending her stumbling backward.
"Ouch!!"
The duke advanced closer, seeing that she'd been momentarily thrown off balance. He swung his sword again, intending to take advantage of her momentary weakness. The king stepped closer to prevent a woman from getting harmed, but Alexis quickly regained her footing just in time, her instincts taking over. She ducked and rolled, narrowly avoiding the duke's blow. Getting back to her feet, she took a defensive stance with her sword at the ready for the next move.
The duke got frustrated, but couldn't deny being impressed by her skill and determination. He moved closer, circling her like a predator stalking its prey. His sword lowered but still held at the ready, as if he was more interested in her than the fight now.
"You're not bad for a woman. Such a delicate thing holding a sword. It's almost attractive.", he praised as his hungry gaze roamed all over her slim body.
But the duke's flirtation got interrupted as Alex started to attack. Their swords clashed with renewed force and intensity, the sound of metal meeting metal rang through the air.
"You will not harm our King, traitor!!", she warned him.
"You're stubborn, I'll give you that. But there's something... intriguing about you, girl. I can't tell if I want to kill you or kiss you."
Nik Ryder and Cal Lowell finally caught up to the scene just in time to see the duke and the mysterious woman behind the mask locked in their struggle. Their eyes widened in surprise and concern as they took in the situation.
"What the damn hell is going on here?!!" Nik commanded an explanation, ready to take action while Cal moved towards His Majesty to make sure the king was and stayed unharmed.
"Ah, seems you have a little back-up. What a pity. And here I was enjoying your company, little lady."
"Ewww, back off!!"
"Don't pretend you weren't enjoying it too, sweetheart. There was something... electric in the air between us, no?", the duke flirted as gracefully used his sword to let Alex's mask fall off her face, wanting to know the face of the mysterious woman.
With Alex's face revealed, Nik and Cal watched her with shock and horror.
"Alex, you were behind the mask fighting?", Cal gasped.
The duke moved closer towards her, admiring the new view.
Nik watched the exchange with growing irritation and a hint of jealousy. His gaze darted between the duke and Alex, his jaw clenched as he realized that the duke was shamelessly flirting with Alex the whole time.
He took a step forward, muscles tense and ready to attack if needed.
"Alright, that's enough. Get your hands off her, you bastard.", Nik yelled at Richards.
"Nik, I can handle it."
"Alex, I'm sure you can, but I'm not going to stand here and let him ogle you like that."
"Move aside, Nik."
Nik watched with a mixture of awe and concern as Alex continued to hold her own against the duke. He couldn't help but be impressed for the first time by her skill and bravery but also worried about her safety. He glanced at Cal, exchanging a look with him as they observed the fight. It's clear that they both wanted to help Alex, but they didn't want to interfere and throw off her rhythm either. So the blonde-haired gripped his sword tightly, his fingers itching to join the fight. But he forced himself to hold back, knowing that Alex was doing impressively well on her own. He now trusted in her abilities and her determination to protect the king.
Later, the battle ended with the duke's sword flying from his hand. The weapon clattered to the ground as it slipped from his grasp. The old man fell to his knees, defeated.
"Now who said I can't become a musketeer?", the girl cheered.
Both musketeers turned their gazes to Alex, dropping their mouths open in surprise at her triumph. Nik carefully approached her, a mix of emotions written on his face.
"Wow, you beat a duke. I... I didn't actually think you could do it."
Cal grinned and proudly gave her a hearty pat on the back.
"I have to admit, I underestimated you. We both have. And you had me worried there for a moment."
"Oh... Thank you, boys.", she blushed.
As the duke saw that the three were distracted, he swiftly grasped his fallen sword and scrambled to his feet. He moved with a surprising speed and stealth for someone who had just been defeated.
But Nik Ryder, who was watching Alex with a mixture of pride and amazement, turned his head just in time to discover the duke rise again with a sword in hand. The young man immediately tensed, his expression darkening in anger. He stepped in front of Alex, putting himself between her and the duke.
"Stay back, Duke Richard. She is under my protection. A single touch on her and you'll be damned."
"Is this the way a musketeer speaks to a noble like me?"
"A true noble isn't just someone who was born into nobility. Nobles are those who respect women, but you tried to harm one. And I cannot let that happen as a protector and musketeer.", Cal explained, remembering what Alex once reminded the boys before leaving the castle grounds while they were training in the courtyard.
After a brief but intense fight and struggle, Nik finally disarmed the duke and knocked him to the ground. He stood over the defeated man, his breath heavy and his sword pointed at his throat.
"Game's over, Duke Richards. Now you'll be thrown behind bars. That's where the bad guys like you belong."
"Thanks Nik.", Alexis was grateful for the little rescue before, even though she was confident to handle it alone. But it was a great feeling for her to have someone else watching her back.
Nik glanced back at her, a hint of a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.
"No problem, I wasn't just going to stand there and let you get hurt."
A pair of guards quickly emerged, grabbing the evil duke before he could do more harm. Everyone was safe now. The king was allowed to step out now that there was no danger anymore. His appearance made Nik, Cal and Alex bow.
"Your Majesty."
"Rise my heroes. Especially you, young lady. You have demonstrated courage, loyalty, and skill beyond anything I could have expected. You have proven yourself worthy. To you and your two companions."
"Those two are not my companions.", she whispered to herself, not wanting to disturb the speech of His Highness.
"I hereby bestow a great honor. You are now an honorary musketeer, young lady. You have earned the right to wear the musketeer badge."
"Wait, what? Really? Thank you!!! I'm a musketeer now.", she cheered.
"You're welcome. But remember, with great honor comes great responsibility. Wear your badge with pride, and use your skills to defend the kingdom"
"I will."
Suddenly the king's voice became soft, almost hesitant.
"Young lady, wait... You look familiar to me. Your face... I feel like I've seen it before. Do I know you?"
"Uhh... No, I don't think so. I'm just an ordinary flower girl."
King Elric gazed Alex for a long time, his blue eyes widening in surprise as he suddenly recognized her which made his expression softend. He carefully took a step closer, studying her face intently.
"These eyes, that face... Could it be possible?"
"Huh?"
"Child, do you have any birthmarks?"
"Your Majesty, I don't. Well, except this one, if it is even one.", she answered while exposing her right shoulder where a crown was depicted.
Even Nik and Cal exchanged a puzzled glance, watching the king and Alex with a mixture of curiosity and surprise. It's clear that the king was experiencing some sort of epiphany, but neither of them understood exactly what was going on. Nervously, Nik stepped forward to break the silence.
"Your Majesty? Is everything alright?"
Elric ignored his loyal musketeer for a moment, too focused on the female musketeer to respond. He continued to study her face, his hands trembling slightly.
"It's you. It has to be you. After all these years... I can't believe it. You don't know me but I know you."
"Huh?"
"Alexis was your name, young lady... Right?"
"Yes, Your Highness.", she answered.
"Alexis, you're my long-lost daughter, the princess I thought I had lost all those years ago. And now, here you are. Alive and grown. You don't know how happy I am to see you."
"What?!"
The king's words not only shocked Alex, but also Nik and Cal.
"What the...?"
"I'm a princess?", Alex asked again.
"Yes, my dear. You are the princess of this kingdom. My heir. You were stolen from me when you were just a baby, and I thought I'd never see you again. But here you are, standing before me. It's a miracle."
"No, I don't believe this. I'm just a regular flower girl in our kingdom. I never met my father and my mother just abandoned me.", she sobbed as she got emotional.
The gentle king took her hand, leading her to a secluded corner, where a painting hung on the wall. Nik and Cal were close behind.
"Child, look at the portrait and tell me what you see."
"It shows me you. And my mother??!", she gasped.
"Yes, it's me and your mother holding you as a baby in our arms. 25 years ago. And the typical silvery-black hair which only you were born with and nobody else."
"It can't be... You're really my father?!", the young woman cried as she couldn't believe what truth she just found out. Even Nik and Cal were shocked after hearing this discovery. The girl they always found stubborn, but cute was the daughter of their king. She was a princess. Both men now bowed in front of Alex showing her the true respect she deserved, not only as royalty but as an hero too which made the girl feel akward.
"You saved the king and our kingdom today.", Cal thanked her.
The father, Elric opened his arms to Alexis, an invitation for a hug.
"My dear, my darling daughter... Come here. Let me hold you, I've missed you so much."
"Father...?"
But before anyone could say anything, the Duke began to laugh. Nik, Cal and Alexis listened in shock and anger as the duke casually confessed his crimes. He was the one who kidnapped Princess Alexis and killed her mother. Separating both women from Elric to make him miserable and suffer. Perhaps even wanting him to leave the throne. The king's expression turned cold and dark as he listened, his hand instinctively reaching for the sword at his hip.
"You killed my beloved Jacqueline and seperated me from my daughter? How dare you hurt my daughter and take her away from me? You took Jacqueline away from me. I'll make you pay for what you've done. You'll never know a moment's peace again."
"You separated me from my family? You jerk!!! How could you?!!", the young woman screamed at the villain while shedding tears.
Nik rushed to her side, putting a comforting arm around her and pulling her close. Letting her cry on him.
"It's okay, I'm here. Calm down, everything will be alright.", he wispered in soothing words while stroking her cheek, completely forgetting for a moment that she's the king's child, a princess.
"Nik, I want to kill Richards."
"Damn him!! I know you're upset, but we can't let anger rule us. Revenge won't bring your mother back. We need to act wisely, not impulsively."
"But..."
"Hey... I know, it's hard. But you don't have to go through this alone. I've been there too and I'm here for you. Always."
Never did the young girl imagine seeing a much softer and more caring side of the Nik Ryder.
"You don't understand..."
"Of course I understand. It hurts. It damn hurts. Alexis... I mean, princess... I lost both of my parents at once when I was only 5 years old. I had to watch how they got killed in front of me. I understand your pain better than you think.", Nik growled, trying not to break in front of her.
"I... I didn't know. I'm so sorry..."
"And that's the only reason why I became a musketeer. Not for fun, not for adrenaline, not for money, but only to protect those who can't protect themselves. To help the weaker ones and those in danger. To serve King Elric and his kingdom because he took me when I was a young adult, after my adoptive father, Elijah."
"You were adopted like me? By Elijah?"
"My adoptive father, Elijah Ryder, was the head of the musketeers before he died, and now I will follow his part to serve the royal family, which now includes you, princess. You're under my protection now. And so is this whole kingdom including the commoners like me. And the criminals will be punished."
The duke was laughing like a devil after hearing Nik's words. The heartbroken king turned to his guards, giving them orders.
"Take the duke away. Lock him up in the deepest, darkest dungeon and throw away the key. He'll rot there for the rest of his days."
The royal guards nodded and complied, grabbing the duke and dragging him away. He protested and struggled but to no avail. Nik and Cal stood nearby and exchanged a look of satisfaction as they watched the duke being led away.
The king turned back to the young Alex. His expression, a mix of anger and compassion.
"My darling daughter, I'm so sorry this happened to you. If I had known where you were, I would have moved mountains to find you. I promise you, I won't let anyone hurt you ever again. You have no idea how happy I am to finally have you back. I'll never let you out of my sight again."
"If you are my long-lost father... Am I really a princess?"
The king nodded, his eyes filled with pride and tenderness.
"Yes, you're a princess. The lost princess of this kingdom, finally found and returned to me."
"But I wanted to be a musketeer. Can I still become one?", she innocently asked.
Kind Elric chuckled and exchanged a glance with Nik and Cal before answering.
"Well, it's not traditional for a princess to be a musketeer, but I suppose there's no rule against it in my kingdom. If you really want to be a musketeer, who am I to deny you? You saved my life and the kingdom from Duke Richards after all, my shining star."
"Eeekk, yes!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I'm a musketeer now", she excitedly squeaked.
The king smiled affectionately.
"You're welcome, my dear. Just promise me you'll be careful out there. The life of a musketeer is dangerous enough for a man, let alone a princess. I don't want to lose you again, my little moonlight."
First, Cal congratulated, then Nik. Both couldn't help but smile at hearing her determination and the king's acceptance.
"Congratulations Alex, you deserve it."
"Yeah, congrats. Not bad, princess. You gave that backstabbing duke what he deserved. And that move from before? You copied my signature move very well."
King Elric turned to them and the men got serious.
"I trust that you two will keep an eye on her and never leave her alone?"
Nik nodded immediately.
"Of course, your Majesty. You have my word. We'll look after her, no matter what. Right, Cal?"
"Yeah, don't worry, we'll make sure she doesn't get into too much trouble."

Days later, after the lost princess got introduced to the kingdom.
"Nik, Cal, how do I look? I'm the pink musketeer, the first female musketeer of Lamrian. Designed by the wonderful Vera Reimonenq.", Princess Alexis asked while showing off her new, stylish uniform.
Both guys stunned by her beauty and couldn't keep their mouths closed.
"Too much pink, but that's... wow. That'll do."
"Seriously Princess... if I didn't already know you I'd think... I mean, I'd be afraid to even talk to you. Just keep your sword away from me.", Cal confessed.
"Thank you, boys. Now shall we? Next stop, to the stables", she giggled and ran to pick her own horse. It was a majestic black mare named Moonlight. Perfect for a royalty and young princess. Sometimes she loved to tease Nik by telling him that both of their horses were having a crush on each other.
"Woah, careful there. You're our princess. The king wouldn't forgive us if something happened to you.", Nik called out, before climbing on his white stallion named Prince. A tall, strong and elegant horse.
Without listening to the warnings, the energetic girl climbed on it, ready for a new adventure.
Cal following close behind on his chestnut brown colored stallion.
"Careful, princess."
"I'm careful, boys. Now let's have a horse race. If I win, I'll be our group's leading musketeer instead of Nik. And I'll recruit my friends, Katherine and Vera in our group as musketeers.", she teased.
"No way, impossible."
"Hey, I'm the princess and pink musketeer. Katherine, our stable girl, l will be the purple musketeer and my designer, Vera will be the light-blue musketeer. Ohh, and Kristin the turquoise musketeer. Just imagine us..."
"Noooo!!"
"Hmph, then I'll order our castle wizard, Luc to turn the two of you into frogs.", she commanded and rode off.
"Honestly, I rather want to be a werewolf than a frog," Cal commented.
"Hurry Cal, after her!!"
Both boys turned their horses towards the exit and started chasing after the playful princess.
Author's note: Introducing first time my OC, Baby Elissa, Daughter of Alex & Nik Ryder. Plot inspired by cute baby videos and cute reactions of babies biting a lemon.
Early in the morning, Alexis discovered her husband, Nik, sitting on the floor and playing with their baby daughter, Elissa, making silly faces and tickling her tummy. He laughed whenever she giggled. And this warmed Alex's heart. Who would have thought that this man who denied everything, living a lonely life, would marry the love of his life and have a child with her? This was a long story for another time to tell. For now, let's focus on the cute sight of father and daughter.
"Damn Ellie, you're so adorable. I love your blonde hair, those heterochromatic eyes of yours watching me and those cute little hands grabbing me. Even the most terrible color, pink suits you."
"Papa.", the girl called him.
"Yeah, Daddy loves you. I love you, Ellie. You know, your mom is the most beautiful woman on the planet and you're the cutest girl on the planet."
"Hey, you were a cute child too, Nik. Our daughter has your silvery-blue eye, my brown eye, and your blond hair.", Alex admired and joined their conversation.
"You haven't seen me as a child, so how can you tell that I was a cute one?", he asked his wife while rubbing the belly of the little child.
Of course, Alex knew what Nik looked like as a child. She had a vision many years ago when a deadly bloodwraith was hunting her down. The year when she met him for the first time. After their first break-up, she touched a crystalline tear that floated in the air next to his silvery-blue eye and saw a vision that showed Nik as a child. A glimpse of his harsh childhood.
Breaking her thoughts she focused back to her two favorite people playing on the floor. She realized that Nik was holding a lemon piece.
"What the.."
Baby Elissa changed her expression as her father made her bite the sour fruit.
"Isn't it sour, Ellie? Come on, bite again.", he requested and chuckled, finding the girl's expression funny every time she took a bite. He continued making the child bite the lemon.
"Nik, stop! Elissa, don't listen to your Daddy."
"Relax, it's just a tiny piece of lemon. Nothing dangerous."
"You're such a cruel man. She doesn't like it. It's too sour for her."
"Hey, I'm teaching my daughter a lesson.", he stopped feeding the innocent child and turned towards his wife.
"A lesson? How so? Why would you do that to her? You're just enjoying her facial expressions, Nik. Am I right?", she argued.
The young father pulled the almost 1-year-old in his lap, which was now silently staring at its parents and sucking on its dummy.
"Hey, my Ellie is strong. She won't suffer from a little piece of lemon. I'm just testing her limits. And to teach her not to make the same mistakes over and over again."
"Like biting something she doesn't like?"
"Correct."
"Oh, Nik, let me handle parenting because the way you teach her things is the worst. She's still a baby and, right now, too young for your training.", Alex explained and sighed.
"My baby has to be prepared for anything, rook."
"Elissa is no soldier, Nik. Look at our cute and innocent girl. Pure like an angel." she sweetly whispered at the sight of their baby daughter, who just pulled out the dummy from her mouth and accidentally let it fall on Nik's lap.
The man gently placed the baby back on the carpet floor and pecked a kiss on its soft, rosy cheek.
"Elissa, don't listen to your mom. Show her how strong you are and that you're a Daddy's girl."
He continued playing with Elissa, fed her the lemon piece again, testing, observing, and also enjoying her reactions. When she made a mistake, he taught her the lesson, and when she got it right, he praised her.
"Nik, you cruel man. Stop!!", she commanded.
"Relax, rook. It's just a tiny piece of lemon, it's not that bad!", Nik chuckled and kept doing it.
"You just want to see her making funny faces for you. Am I right?"
"Hell, maybe that's true. I can't lie! I love her cute facial expressions.", he couldn't stop laughing.
"Okay, stop it now. That's enough, darling."
"Why, it's all in good fun. She won't suffer. I'm just testing her limits.", the young father chuckled, also amused seeing his wife a little mad.
Again, Nik moved a piece of lemon near the baby's mouth, making her bite with her tiny two teeth. After tasting the fruit, the girl grimaced again while closing her eyes. While the father was enjoying his daughter's cute expressions, Alex didn't like it as a mother.
"Nik, stop!!"
"Hey, I'm just..."
Little Elissa tried to giggle even though the sour taste was still bothering her. She crawled towards her father, Nik for comfort, who gently placed her on his lap with a smile.
"See Alex, she's fine. My princess is strong.", the man praised.
The baby girl nervously giggled again. This must have been the 8th or 9th time she bit on that sour fruit just like her father requested her to do.
"Still Nik, I think it's time to stop now. Give her a rest. Please.", the wife commanded and glared at him while crossing her arms.
"Well, it's all part of the learning process, right? How will she know how sour a lemon is if she doesn't taste it herself?"
"Oh, really? I'll teach it to you then. My dear husband... Take this!!"
Immediately, Alexis snatched the last piece of the yellow fruit away from her husband and then stuffed it inside his mouth to get some sweet revenge for their daughter. Or more like a sour revenge. As the sour taste hit his tongue, he grimaced.
"Ahhh, damn it."
"Sour, isn't it?" Alex teased, enjoying Nik's reaction. Elissa giggled as she watched his funny face and tongue sticking out.
"Papa."
"Ellie, Papa is fine. Damn, that taste is awful."
"Papa damn?"
"No Ellie, Papa is not damn."
"Hey, excuse meee?!! Are you teaching our innocent daughter a bad word, Nik?", Alex freaked out and delivered a little punch on his shoulder with her fist.
"Ouch. What was that for, darling?"
"Nik Ryder, if my Elissa ever learns a bad word from you, I won't forgive you. Understood?"
"But..."
"Understood or should I punch you again, my love?"
"Your small fist didn't hurt me anyway, darling. No need to hurt yourself. I try not to swear or use any bad words in front of Ellie. I swear.", Nik swore anyway.
"You better behave yourself. Since Elissa's birth, you have been so naughty and annoying. Trying to turn my own daughter against me!! You deserved that sour..."
His lips met hers for a kiss, allowing her to taste the sourness of lemon on his tongue.
"Oh... Mmmh, what was that for, Nik? You taste like lemon."
"That's what you get when you stuff lemon into my mouth. Blame yourself, hon. That's my little payback for being a spoiled sports earlier. Now everything's equal. The whole family now has a sour taste in their mouth."
"But the kiss was sweet.", Alex blushed and kissed her husband back.
The young couple moved closer, embracing and sharing a passionate kiss. With their little daughter nestled securely between them, they allowed the energy of their earlier fight to dissolve into a powerful expression of love and connection.
"Okay, that's enough. I'm going to get all sticky with the lemon juice all over my neck.", his wife giggled.
