I’ve been forcing an important person in my life to read my favourite childhood book series with me. We just got to a very important reveal, so I made this to celebrate.

I used to really dislike cutsie talk, but my YouTube algorithm has become primarily trans women and something about the way they “ababbababababababab let’s go picnik friend time yay : )” has implanted into my brain and it makes me laugh every time. I like it now.

I think the answer to all of these questions of ‘why do queer people love pokemon?’ ‘Why are there so many autistic furries?’ ‘Why does (outcast group) love (vaguely strange or childish thing?) becomes clearer when put in the reverse.

Why do ‘normal’ people not enjoy things which are appealing, and colourful, and fun?

Well, because liking those things is a bit strange. It’s childish. You were meant to grow out of it.

But if you are already strange, there isn’t much of a drawback, is there? Not as much of a fear of being earnest when you’ve already been rejected? Might as well collect plushies and draw hot werewolves, right?

I think these things do have broad appeal. I think it’s less about something in our brains that draws us to them, and more about other people being taught to reject them.

That being said, I’m sure it’s all subconscious if true.

I feel like it’s important to remind people that being a bad writer is not a crime, or a moral failing. To be honest with you, I do not think that person who made a webcomic about the love triangle between an evil demon prince, an archangel, and a girl with purple eyes actually thinks that victims of kidnapping will get over it the moment they are rescued by a hot enough man. I think they just like drawing hot anime guys and have never taken a writing course.

We do not need to make a video essay about all the things wrong with 20-year-olds first webtoon. Just shoot her a polite message with your critism.

Alternative theory—Why ‘The Girl’ has a sword.

There is a lot of debate about if or not this really depicts Susie, the biggest point of contention being the presence of a sword instead of an Axe. Though I enjoy the theories that perhaps Susie is not The Girl, I have a different interpretation to put forward. Not sure if anyone else has pointed this out.

This interaction with Gerson alludes to the fact that Kris’ weapon, their sword, translates in the real word to pens and pencils. So, perhaps Susie is The Girl. Perhaps she simply has the wrong weapon. Perhaps we should be giving her the pen.

I am not a bootlicker (I am a bootspitter), but we should all take a moment and remind ourself that our middle-aged supervisor making $30 an hour is not the enemy we should be fighting against.

Every job I’ve had so far I would talk to my fellow twenty-year-olds and hear them rally against our sup like they were Big Brother. Then, I would talk to the sup and they would be like “hi you can call me Dave, Admin has a gun pointed at me at all times and if I accept you time off request a second overtime I will be shot dead in the center of my temple. They won’t let me in the union.”
