Garrus and Tali, in very different ways.

Garrus is easy. Their banter flows, they understand each other and they can spend a lot of time tinkering in the same room in silence. They're a menace together on the battlefield. A team if you've ever seen one.

Tali is a ✨kindred spirit✨. She's much more open and talkative than Garrus, so she's the one Shepard talks to about the deeper stuff, the frivolous stuff, and everything in between. She's the one person other than Joker that Maisy shows any physical affection to, and the only person she talks to about her slightly complicated feelings towards a certain pilot. They call to each other's whimsical side at a time where there is very little whimsy to be found, and it makes life just a little lighter.

You know what typical embarrassing moment of calling your teacher "mum" in front of the whole class?

Yeah, Maisy definitely called Anderson "dad" in a council meeting at some point. Garrus never let her live it down.

To the five celestial beings keeping Shoker alive. Why Joker?

This ask made me smile so big.

I guess there are three answers to this question: why Joker for me, for Shepard, and for Maisy.

For me, it was an instant "This. This guy. This absolute clown. This is the one." My friend introduced me to Mass Effect and they refused to tell me if he was ever going to be romanceable (I figured it out pretty quickly thank god). But I was whipped from the first terrible joke. I love a funny, competent man.

For Shepard (aka why I love Shoker as a ship no matter the Shep), it's the utter undying loyalty. He's with them from the very beginning, the only person they never have to track down or negotiate with. The only one who never gave up on them, even when they were actually dead. There's a reason Shep's clone used Joker as bait, the Illusive Man as a bribe and Anderson as Shepard's emotional anchor. It's deep in the text and I'm so mad they never let us pay it off romantically.

For Maisy, it's both, AND the fact that she can be entirely herself with him. He makes her feel safe. He would think that's insane considering he could never physically protect her, but physical safety isn't what matters most to her. She's much more reliant on her mask than she is on her armour.

I don't really have a "last line written" that isn't out, because I mostly just write my chapters/one-shots in one go and post them right away, and I haven't started the next one. Sometimes I get a brain wave and write a few lines down in my notes app, so I'll give you one of those I really like, from a chapter I am Very Much looking forward to.

"Damn it, will you please stop?"

She whipped around again, her expression contorting into a grimace of mixed anger and pain. "Why?" "Because this is when I'm supposed to run after you, and you're not getting that with me. Give me a second." She had once told him about the weather on Mindoir. How you could get every season in a single day; rain and snow and sun and thunder and fog. How it sometimes felt like the sky couldn't make up its mind. Her face went through an entire Mindoir day in an instant. He expected her to scoff, to tell him to fuck off. She probably considered it. Instead, she moved back into the cockpit and reached for his arm to help him up. When he wobbled and almost fell back on his ass, she steadied him with a hand on his waist.

Kasumi is infuriating to shop with because she won't stop stealing stuff ("Cerberus gives us plenty of budget, Kasumi, I can just buy you the damn candy"). She also disappears mid-conversation and leaves Shepard to look like she's taking to himself, which is Highly Embarrassing.

In the same vein, Javik. Shepard kept him off shopping trips after they got banned from a shop because he kept calling the staff and other customers primitives. Little does she know he did that on purpose because he hates grocery stores.
