A spring in Wisconsin with a bounty of Eastern Skunk Cabbage (Symplocarpus foetidus) and Marsh Marigold (Caltha palustris) and some beautiful, crystal clear water, a rare site in our oak-heavy region!
Also featuring:
Birdsfoot Violet, hoary puccoon, bastard toadflax, and kitten tails!

Spring is here! An update on the current flower situation:
Pussytoes, trout lily, cut-leaved toothwort, prairie trillium
large white trillium, blue phlox, bloodroot, mayapples,
And the honorable mention: Some Arums, likely Jack-in-the-pulpit!
Happy Spring!
Spring is practically here, according to this lovely Eastern Skunk Cabbage! (And the Cranes. And the geese. And the rainfall🌈)
Anyways, been busy doing awesome shit
Sorry I've been forgetting to post on here! Winter has slowed work quite a bit, but here are some Prescribed Burns for your enjoyment!
Recently had the opportunity to visit Crater Lake NP, which I now believe to be seriously underrated! Pictures really don't do it justice when it comes to the scale of the place!
Darlingtonia californica, also known as the California Pitcher Plant, Cobra Lily, or Cobra Orchid, is the only living species of the Darlingtonia genus. It is a carnivorous plant found in cold-water bogs of Oregon and California.
The patch I photographed here can be found at the Darlingtonia State Park, outside of Florence, Oregon. It's way bigger than in person I thought it was!
I wonder how many people actually get to say that they love their job? I feel so unbelievably grateful for this past season and the wonderful people I have gotten to share it with. How fortunate am I, to get to be on this earth at the same time as all this beauty and laughter, to see the sunrises over the marshes and watch the compass plants and spiderwort and blue stems grow and bloom and turn to seed as the seasons change? For the first time I have been met with the sense that I have found my place in the world. There is so much here worth saving, worth loving, worth tending to with care.
I suppose there are far worse ways to end your season than getting to kayak through a wildlife refuge to collect american lotus seeds 🤔
Reporting in to say that all the great egrets and caspian terns are having a great big party, and you weren't invited!
Field Report: Bugs of Big Marsh
It's certainly midsummer here in Chicago, and the bugs are OUT, folks!
Pictured: Polyphemus Moth caterpillar, Red Admiral, Bumble Bee, Katydid, Mantis, and a cup of weevils sent by the USDA to eat spotted knapweed!
Your Weekly Field Report #12
Summer heatwave means a lot of watering and early morning spraying, but all the bugs and flowers are really starting to flourish!

Your weekly field report #11
Summer bugs are here! Milkweed Beetles, monarchs, and more!
Your Weekly Field Report #10
Helped set up and take measurements for a little goldenrod experiment, tore up some RCG, butterflies are out and about, and saw our resident heron score a fish.
Your Weekly Field Report #9
Not much to report, lots of spraying the fiend that is Purple Loosestrife, got trained to use a mini loader, moved a turtle out of the dang road, the false indigo is in full bloom
