open to: w / m / nb. plot: our muses dated in university…it didn’t end well. now they’re both stood in front of one another at their university’s reunion party. bonus: try as they might to get over one another, they haven’t – even after all these years.

he hadn’t anticipated turning up at his university’s reunion party when he’d first received the invitation, but his son had persuaded him otherwise. telling him that it would be a good idea; or, at the very least – some variation of fun. boston hadn’t been particularly popular during his time at university, but he’d been incredibly successful afterwards; a name behind plenty of faces in the music industry. it’s something he’s proud of, but he’s never been, and never will be one to brag, despite miah’s protests that he should. he’s regretting attending as soon as he walks into the room; quickly deflated by how cheaply it’s been decorated. deciding to busy himself with getting a drink. that’s when he spots a familiar face, heart suddenly in his throat; palms clammy, like they’d been way back when in their presence, too. “hi…” he starts before he can stop himself, “it’s boston…” he can’t assume he’s as memorable as they are, despite the past they shared. “it’s been a while, huh?” / @fervour​

the only reason he attended the reunion was because he was facebook friends with the majority of these people, despite wanting to remove them on a weekly basis. he was sure he would never live it down if he just decided not to turn up. hearing about all the things they’ve been up to when he can read about it any day of the week just sounds like a bore and he’s already resigned himself to an evening of getting drunk so he can get through it all. especially as he had had to arrive alone and will most likely spend the evening alone. he’s done well for himself since leaving university, has his own business but it’s nothing to write home about, at least not with people he doesn’t care for. how he could stand here and talk about himself for hours on end is beyond him, so if he has to be talked at whilst he drowns his sorrows in alcohol, that’s something richard can do. and it’s what he’s sure he will have to do until he’s face to face with somebody he was sure he would never see again. somebody that he was actually naïve enough to believe would not attend. “boston...” a name he hasn’t said in years but it rolls off his tongue as though he had said it only minutes before. “yeah, no, i... you still look the same. how could i forget you?” he laughs a little, draining the last of his drink to busy himself for a moment or two. “it has. it’s been... it’s been a long time. how are you? you look good.”
