He could hardly fault Hakata’s insistence when it was so well-intentioned, and what the tantou spoke was true; he hadn’t noticed that the night had gone by so quickly, and it hadn’t been until he was approached that Hasebe took notice of the quiet sounds of a morning slowly approaching. “…Very well,” he acquiesced, if only for now. “But I hope you remembered that bedtime stories aren’t quite my forte.” 

博多 - He grinned, war tales were always interesting the gorier the better (although his older brother would surely protest should Ichigo find out.) Nevertheless, the tantou grinned stifling a yawn, all desire of sleep lost in the promise of Hasabe’s stories. 

“Tell me the one about Nobunaga again!”

“Ah, Hakata,” Hasebe greets, and perhaps for the sight of this small tantou alone, he affords a small smile. “I’m almost done here. Head to bed first, and I shall join you momentarily.”

博多 - The tantou merely shook his head, looking up at the uchigatana stubbornly before grabbing his caretaker’s hand. “But it’s almost morning, already - surely our master would want you to rest too,”

Whilst walking down the street, she notes one man offering his jacket to his companion. Bel’s pigtails seem to twitch as she observes them. 

“So this kind of thing exists!?” And of course, her gaze turns to the companion of her own-and rather expectantly at that.

Hakata glanced up at her, before setting down the bags and removing his own jacket before pro-offering it to the slightly taller girl. “Would you like it, aruji-sama?” 

“I can understand that it gets cold sometimes in Edo! And your clothes are not suitable for this weather. Please do not get sick, alright?”

“You’re still a tantou at heart.” A prolonged sigh came from her end. “…I don’t want you or anyone else to break. That would make me sad.” Because she was unable to ruffle his hair, she rested a hand on his shoulder, a small smile pulling at her lips. “I don’t want a white knight. I only want you. You’re already dependable no matter your size-that’s why you don’t have to worry, okay?”

“B-but I want to be your white knight! I want to be like Ichi-san and take care of everybody instead of having to be saved,” He shook his head quickly, suddenly frowning. “...I am not a child, aruji-sama! I can take care of myself, and you and the citadel a-and everybody else! So please place your faith in me, alright?” He blinked down at her, bending so she can place her hand upon his shoulder.

    Adopt everyone? Yamanbagiri hoped the other was joking. Taking into account his own condition, it would seem that only their bodies change, but not their minds. Surely, Yamanbagiri wouldn’t want to be adopted by a child. 

    “I’m fine. It’s not all that different from when I was still an uchigatana.”

“But you’re smaller! And everything looks bigger -” It was the same for Hakata although everything was in reverse. “And you can’t command as many troops. If I can’t be your big brother, I understand because that’s Ichi-nii’s job! But I will be your guide for the world of tantou then!” Yamabagiri-san was still as prideful as ever!

“Uu…uuuh…” Why in the world was he crying this easily? He was more powerful than this. “B-but… I’m still Ichi-nii, Ha-chan! I-I’m still capable of being everyone’s nii-san!”

And now Ichigo was crying because of him! W-what would Ichigo do if their situations were reversed? “You’re still my big brother,” He held out a clean handkerchief, before changing his mind and dabbing the edges of Ichigo’s eyes. “Do you want to get some ice cream, Ichi-nii? I can carry you on my back!”

“Commercial, Aizen!” He laughed merrily. “They’re the things you see on television that shows off a product! Most people don’t know what they are either because they’re a new invention! But I asked the saniwa,”

“ - I - I’m just filling in until you become big again, Ichi-nii-san! Nobody is a better onii-san than you are!" Please do not cry!

{祭り} “Oh yosh! Sure! Comet cereal! Great idea, huh?” Wait so he was right? That was what Hakata was talking about? It was probably better to just roll along and pretend he knew what was up. He laughed a bit at that hair ruffle. “We’re the best partners~”

“We can mode rice in the shape of stars, and people will be happy!” He grinned. Man that Aizen sure was a genius. Comet cereal, what a brilliant idea!  “We can make a commercial about that too, but first firework festival!”

    Wait, this is–…

    He was sure that the other was Ichigo’s little brother, since he mentioned Ichi-nii, but which one is he? Glasses- that must be…

    “Hakata-.. Toushirou?”

    Yeah, he’s pretty sure he got that right. He was a little wary, though. Since the Hakata he knew was much, much smaller. 

    “I’m fine-.. Did you grow taller?”

“...I did indeed!” Hakata was grinning brightly. “I’m a tachi now, like m’ big brother Ichigo Hitofuri. He’s smaller now too, but that’s alright because I will adopt everyone and become everybody’s big brother! And take care of everyone properly! Just call me Ha-nii-chan!”  Eh...the once uchigatana didn’t seem to look too pleased with him. “You okay, down there?”
