Matteo was distracted as hell, and Felix could hardly blame him. So he figured he’d take care of the boring shit, like food, while Matteo got to spend time with Charlie. He only had a day. Felix was gonna let him make the most of it.
So he stepped out of the room to order two pizzas – one with fucking everything, for Matteo, and a second one also with fucking everything because Matteo was the biggest eater that Felix had ever met, and had developed a defense mechanism where he just ate the same shit Matteo did, so Matteo wouldn’t complain when he poached about half of Felix’s food.
By the time he got back, Charlie had calmed down some, and Felix got treated to a frankly devastating double-D’Ignazio stare as they both glanced at him. Jesus fuck.
“Hey, you done crying?” he said to Charlie, with none of the usual cutesy voice people usually spoke to babies with. But Charlie was used to that from him; the kid made a happy noise that could loosely be translated as maybe the first half of Felix’s name. “What about you? You done crying?” was then directed at Matteo, with a grin somewhere between shit-eating and fond. “Because we’ve got stuffed animals in one of those bags you got, and honestly, you should watch Charlie with them. He tries to make towers, it’s fucking hilarious.”
Matteo was unaware of the power of the double d’ignazio stare, but it had to have been pretty fucking good. Big blue eyes just had a way with people most of the time. It couldn’t be helped. And maybe one day Matteo would be able to truly teach Charlie about the power of the blue eyed stare. Maybe.
“Shut up, you asshole,” Matteo said, sort of whispering the swear word bit so Charlie couldn’t hear. Sort of. “I wasn’t crying. I’m too manly for that.”
That said, Matteo moved to take a seat, gently putting the boy down on the floor and motioning for Felix to hand him the bag with the animals. “I’ve heard stories of these animal towers, I need to see it for myself.” He turned the back upside down and dumped them on the floor, much to Charlie’s delight.
It took a few more minutes of getting comfortable. Blue eyes Matteo had never really been on this side of kept looking up at him as if they were waiting for him to make some kind of move, testing him more than Felix. He must have been used to the blond by that point. That made Matteo feel better.
“Go on then,” he said as he picked up a toy and gently booped the ever confused toddler with it. “You’re okay. Promise.”
