7 From the Women: Mifarma
Mifarma, the artistic alter ego of Danielle Alma Ravitzki, is set to make a striking debut in the English-language music scene with her upcoming album, Mifarma. Known for her critically acclaimed releases in the Hebrew music world—including a 2013 debut and a sophomore album in 2017—this New York-based artist is stepping into her most personal and introspective era yet. The first single, “I Left the Room Without My Hair,” co-written with mentor Shara Nova, arrives this January, offering a haunting glimpse into the album’s raw emotional landscape.
From an early age, Mifarma’s connection to music was undeniable. At 14, she fearlessly entered the industry, setting her poetry to melodies crafted by prominent Israeli musicians. Over time, she evolved into a deeply introspective songwriter, exploring themes of identity, trauma, and healing. Mifarma—produced by Grammy-nominated Carmen Rizzo—blends alternative, electronic, and classical influences into an evocative sonic tapestry. Featuring collaborations with Nova, Earl Harvin, Melissa Lingo, and Piers Faccini, the album is an unfiltered journey through loss, resilience, and self-reinvention. As she prepares for her international debut, Mifarma’s bold artistry is poised to leave an indelible mark on the global music landscape.
What Have You Been Working To Promote Lately?
Lately, I’ve been working on my first album in English, called Mifarma. I recently released my single, I Left the Room Without My Hair. This song, which I wrote and Shara Nova composed, explores the impact of trauma and how we can overcome it—metaphorically growing our hair back again. When I wrote it, I was reflecting on a time when I felt like my hair, my identity, my essence—everything that defined and protected me—was stripped away. Through writing this song, which became part of my healing process, I was able to reclaim myself and grow my hair back, becoming resilient and empowered by my past traumas.
Shara composed the music while Carmen and I worked together on the album’s production. His work on this track really gives it depth and beauty, amplifying the power of my lyrics. I also had the privilege of working with some incredible musicians—Earl Harvin, Chris Bruce, and Jamie Muhoberac. Earl, in particular, is the reason this album even came together in the first place; he introduced me to Carmen, and I’ll always be grateful for that.
Please tell us about your favorite song written, recorded or produced by another woman and why it’s meaningful to you
My favorite song by another woman is anything by My Brightest Diamond, though if I had to choose, it would be Golden Star. My Brightest Diamond is the stage name of Shara Nova, and in my opinion, she’s one of the best musicians out there.
What does it mean to you to be a woman making music/in the music business today and do you feel a responsibility to other women to create messages and themes in your music?
The fact that I’m a woman resonates in both my everyday life and my art. All of my songs, except one, were composed by women—a choice that started as a coincidence but became a deliberate one. I believe it’s crucial to elevate women’s voices and writing, and to collaborate with women whenever possible. We need more women in the music industry. Additionally, many of my songs explore themes tied to the experience of womanhood, like sexual assault and rejection—though I believe everyone can find their own connection to them.
What is the most personal thing you have shared in your music or in your artist brand as it relates to being female?
I think the most personal thing I’ve shared is the story of sexual assault in my first single. Songs are conduits for emotion, and even those who haven’t experienced sexual assault can still connect to the emotional tone behind the song. The discussion around sexual assault is deeply tied to the female experience, but it’s something that can resonate with everyone.
What female artists have inspired you and influenced you?
Currently, the female artists who have inspired and influenced me the most are my amazing songwriters—Shara Nova, Melissa Lingo, Ella Joy Meir, Liron Meshulam, Katrin Hahner, and Brisa Roche. They’ve truly elevated my craft and helped me tell my story in the kindest, most thoughtful, and beautiful way possible. I’m so grateful for what we’ve managed to create together.
Who was the first female artist that made want to create music / be in the business?
I would say that Joni Mitchell, PJ Harvey, and Patti Smith were the first female artists I looked up to from a very young age. Do you consider yourself a feminist? If so, why or why not?
Of course, I’m a feminist. There are a million types of feminists, and they’re not all the same. I’m a feminist because I believe in equality. While we’ve made great progress, there’s still so much work to be done.
happy 19th anniversary to bring me the workhorse! <3
