I want a fic about Enjolras before he started les amis. I want Enjolras being problematic. I want to see Enjolras being privileged and ignorant. I want to see him lost in his own world of wealth completely oblivious to anything else. I want to see Combeferre despising Enjolras when he first meets him, disguised by his attitude and ignorance. Then I want to see Enjolras slowly learning about social justice, having his eyes opened and realizing issues. I want Enjolras realizing his own shitty behavior. I want to see him go to combeferre asking for help. I want see Enjolras unlearning is prejudices. I want Enjolras who starts the ABC with hope to change people because if he could change, anyone could.

White priveleged/upperclass snob Enjolras who thinks the world is OK now that everyone can vote. Enjolras who meets some of the future Amis and realizes that he’s Trans, and suddenly has to look critically at the world around him. Enjolras who starts Les Amis in order to learn from the other members, and to help them learn as well.

Enjolras who gets so frustrated with Grantaire because Enjolras once was ignorant, but Grantaire knows the state of the world. And if Enjolras can learn and see the world as it is and believe in making it better, how can’t R?

R who gets frustrated with Enjolras because Enjolras is JUST learning. Enjolras doesn’t know how it’s running in circles, trying to get anything fixed.

I want to pair this with Grantaire who used to be an activist. R who used to go to rallies and used to hold up his banner. R who got beaten down one too many times. R who gave the fight all he had but it wasn’t enough. R who tries but got burnt out. R who now sees Enjolras, trying to save the world, and he’s TERRIFIED his light will be extinguished.

Enjolras who finds out that R used to be like him. Enjolras who asks Ferre for help and looks up R’s old rallies and causes and sees what went wrong. Enjolras who finds ways to strengthen his arguments and fight the problems R ran into.

Grantaire who slowly begins to believe again when this young, indomitable revolutionary starts to succeed where he failed. Grantaire who slowly but surely begins to believe in Enjolras, and then in his cause.

Les Amis who are so done with this endless emotional garbage and WILL YOU JUST KISS ALREADY

R who never quite gets all his light back but is content with watching Enjolras blaze Enjolras asking R to help teach him skills on how to paint banners

Enjolras opening up to R about how terrible he used to be and how he used to believe in horrible things

R finally understanding that Enjolras isn’t a god, but a man doing his best to love and help the world

It’s been 4 years (WHAT) since my first Hamilton Storyboard!  2 months after posting that sequence, I was hired for my first storyboarding job and moved to California. 

Thought I would take the skills I’ve learned working in tv and film to update this old project and see how far I’ve come! 

 (One big change is the watermark.  I’ll be watermarking all my animatics from here on out–my original sequences were pilfered and passed off as someone else’s work too many times.)

Let me tell you about book!Enjolras. When one of the revolutionaries got drunk and shot an unarmed citizen, Enjolras grabbed the man by his hair, forced him to his knees, and gave him one minute to say his prayers. He stood calmly timing him on his watch as the man screamed and begged at his feet, then put a pistol to his head and shot him. Then “he thrust the body aside with his foot and said, ‘Get rid of that.’” Enjolras had no problem giving Gavroche a gun. Enjolras stayed at the back of the barricade because he knew that he had to stay alive to give orders. Enjolras killed the young National Guard who was loading the cannon even though it pained him to do so— he shed a single tear, called him “brother” and shot him to buy a few precious minutes. Enjolras instructed the revolutionaries to keep a stack of several paving stones on the first floor of the cafe, and when the National Guard attacked, they threw them on the soldiers below and crushed them. Enjolras found several bottles of wine in the back of the cafe; he placed them on the first floor, too, so that when they inevitably ran out of bullets they could use the bottles as clubs. When he was finally pinned down, surrounded by the bodies of his friends and and facing twenty members of the National Guard, Enjolras threw away his gun, offered them his chest, and said, “shoot me.” He refused a blindfold.

Enjolras is vicious. Enjolras is angry. And above all, Enjolras is an idealist; and there is absolutely nothing more dangerous.

This is why I love Enjolras. Because he was always aware of the death that he was bringing. but he thought that the small chance of reaching that new world, that small potential hope, was worth it.  It is both terrifying, and beautiful.

Enjolras is willing to do whatever it takes to fight for a world that nobody else can see- and that, in and of itself, is why he is so capable of being terrible.
