"I’m not really in the position to argue with someone who sounds that determined, so an equal race it is."  Sei cast a quick glance to Hamako, smiling, and then focused his attention on the clock.  "At the five, then, we’ll race wholeheartedly."  It wasn’t too long after those words left his mouth that the hand of the clock snapped to the five, and a whistle blew in Seijuro’s mind.  

The former captain launched from his starting position and straight into race mode.   Hamako seemed like the kind of person who could handle it even if she lost, and he had no intentions of letting her off the hook when it came to this bet, so he put everything he had into his stroke.

Before he knew it he’d made it to the turn, and for a moment he saw the other swimmer coming up her lane. Despite what he was certain was an honest effort on Hamako’s part, he’d managed to get a decent advantage on her. It would take a serious push if she had any intentions of beating him. The girls warning to not get cocky rang through his head. Even thought he was almost certain he’d win right now, he wouldn’t relax until he’d made it back to the other end of the lane—he owed her that much honest dedication.

Seijuro pushed himself hard until his hand made contact and his finish was sealed. He wasn’t surprised to turn and see that he’d beaten her, but he was surprised that even after swimming so much Hamako had managed to finish that race without her time suffering too badly. As soon as she finished alongside him in her lane, Seijuro smiled and laughed. "I guess this means you have to considering returning to the competative circut, right?"

Content with the information that he wouldn't give her a head start, the blonde didn't have anything else to say. She was completely focused on the clock, trying to calm the wild beating of her heart with each second that their start drew nearer. Three... (take a deep breath) ....two.... (try not to be so tense) ...one... (now get going!)

Her body entered the water again and she tried her hardest to get into her usual state of mind. She extended her arm, she reached for her clarity... but there was something energetic inside of her that seemed to distract her. A bundle of nerves. The thought of swimming with someone again, of sharing the joy that the water gave her. If she lost this race... would it really be the sign she needed in order to allow herself to swim for something again? Would she really allow herself to run the risk of losing something she loved by taking it back into her life? Just as the thought raced through her mind, she noticed something moving past her a lane over... Seijuro?! He'd already made the turn?! His speed was absolutely incredible! She pushed herself harder, making the turn herself, and darting down the lane but... but...

He had finished long before she did! Her hand impacted the hard, smooth surface of the wall and she paused, chest heaving. "I... I... I guess so but... how?!" Hamako tore her goggles off, staring over at Sei with an expression of disbelief. She had made an honest effort, and he had won by a landslide! She'd finished with a decent time by her own standards but... he was way above her level! Now, Hama was a far cry from a sore loser but... she hadn't quite expected the loss to be so brutal. "You're so fast! Crazy fast like, way fast!"

"I'm sorry for bumping into you, but I don't have time to apologize more properly!  I'm late to class!" Hamako rushed passed, completely forgetting the fact that it was a weekend and she didn't need to go to school.
