Prince Bolkonsky is honestly such a funny antagonist in how hard it is to explain how his assholery manifests... Like "in his scene of most heinous and abusive behavior this despicable man expresses the belief women can learn maths too and should choose their husbands independently" "the callous bitch really ruins everyone's life with his stance that his 30 year old son shouldn't marry a teenage girl"
Oh no, it's not hard at all.
The old prince said that if he was ill it was only because of Princess Mary: that she purposely worried and irritated him, and that by indulgence and silly talk she was spoiling little Prince Nicholas. The old prince knew very well that he tormented his daughter and that her life was very hard, but he also knew that he could not help tormenting her and that she deserved it. (Book 9, Ch.8)
I also believe the old asshole is at very least partially responsible for Marya telling her son she doesn't love him to make him dress up
I gave the Crofters series a refresh with beautiful new risograph printing and some fresh textured layers. Available as limited edition A3 prints in my shop!

Girls Will Be Boys by Sophia Wallace
I began Girls will be Bois, 2002-2007 because I was compelled to create a testament to my living history as a lesbian whose partners are often on the butch and masculine spectrum.
Butchness, particularly butch BIPOC are targeted with violence, repressed historically, and ignored by the media. Everywhere from popular culture to the law, female masculinity is treated as failed femininity – a monstrosity.
It was vital to me that I document and create a visual testimony of my community that could not be denied. As a queer photographer I felt that my medium was the best way to intervene in the ongoing attempt to marginalize my community. I also lost a friend during this time which had a profound impact on me. Kim, a young butch lesbian, tragically died from a brain aneurysm at 24 years old. Kim’s partner Michelle who had been with her virtually every day during the two years they were together, was not invited to the funeral where Kim was buried in pink suit and coffin with heavy makeup. Kim’s history is like that of so many queer people. Written by those who seek to deny it.
Girls Will be Bois will always be a historical project for me. Losing a friend and watching another friend be written out of her partner’s life, was a painful reality check about what was at stake if we do not record our own stories.
This year’s Xmas card, I ran out of time to paint/print something so I tried out stamp carving!! Happy Holidays to all ❤️
Read Ho Chi Minh, Read Stalin, Read Mao & Deng & Xi, and read literally anything from the global south rather than letting your own white supremacy utilize American lies abt communists. Anarchism is faulty, and only shows your severe lack of knowledge in multiple fields, esp. the basics of the flawed economics of Capitalism, as "Anarchism" holds no solutions for these things other than utopian socialism. Fuck off, you're a racist, because you're actively fighting movements built on indigenous movements and ending the oppression of the working class. You're an opportunist at best.
do you think anyone else besides those bumbling fools you call comrades believes you here?
especially when you're telling me to read Stalin, Mao, and Deng and Xi? theorists who are so diametrically opposed to each other? that's not even a controversial statement, there's no way Deng and Xi are following Mao at this point, and neither of them are following Lenin; The Belt and Road initiative is completely at odds with Imperialism.
all you silly little red politicians have to do Olympic level gymnastics to try to form a single coherent trajectory between them. and then you tell me to read Stalin? yeah, Economic Problems of the USSR (have YOU even read that?) never even so much as got beyond a Hayek or Friedman level understanding of Capital, y'know, from Marx, which I read. and is mysteriously absent from your reading list?
you think anyone here takes you seriously?

#waitress is my biggest hobby... and my greatest fear.
I never read the epilogue
what I really like about all these vintage couple’s portraits is that there is a very certain romatic decorum kept up – certain themes and poses – which, while of course being the mainstream preferred view of couples repeated throughout many studios, are just… so nice to look at.
this staged affection, a mix of theatricality and intimacy, the couple holding still for a couple of moments and now immortalised in a very set sequence of embraces and kisses. there is a charm to it even when I can’t tell whether this was a genuine couple portait or just actors hired by the photographer.
the kiss on the bare shoulder (eyes perfectly averted), the cheek caress, the piano and the violin, the interrupted embrace, the woman tilted back as in a half-stopped dance…
I simply must torment you a bit with these, let us see some of my personal favourites! (part one due to the image limit)
let us start with the kiss on the cheek (eyes averted! oh the pose! these were taken between 1910-1940)
or the nearly opposite energy (how daring!) of the kiss or caress with direct eye contact (1910-1930)
and then the innocent – yet so flirty – classic of the park encounter! (1890-1920)
and then the famed kiss on the bare shoulder – what an idea, what a vibe, such intimacy! (1910-1930)
and oh, I am not done, look at this – the adoration of the woman! look at this expression, this pose, this decorum! (1910-1940)
and then some of my favourites from the more playful or direct category, enjoy (1910-1930):
and, at last (thank you for still being here and witnessing my recent fascination with vintage polish photography) my three absolute favourites outside of any particular categories (1910-1930)
just look at her. just look.
Many Thanks for the mention 🙏 Beautiful print from @marshfield_screenprint Fantastic giant new six colour screenprint on the table this morning by @floraforshall1 - created at MSP this week. It’s not always easy to print large scale- moving the large wet prints from table to drying rack between colours takes a lot of care. But fearless Flora was up for the job- as were the new AO size screens from @screenstretch which we ordered on Thursday and were delivered on Friday in time for printing. #fabulous #newprints #screenprint #handprinted #monkeys #largescale #colourful #screenprinting #bathlife (at Marshfield Screen Print - near Bath) https://www.instagram.com/p/CN9w7N_ltR6/?igshid=iullcpoaon9p
hey I’m adisa! I’m black nonbinary poor etc. at a PWI, and I am very tired. I’m balancing physical and mental problems among other things. I know there’s more important situations going on right now so I want to say this is not critical in any way, but me and my roommate both have sensory issues that make it very very difficult to eat at cafeterias, so I buy groceries to cook. I would like to be more comfortable buying stuff for myself and going places with my friends, and I currently feel extremely guilty for doing that because i have to choose between doing that and me and my roommate having edible food. so if you would like to throw some money at me that’d be really cool of you! I will not go hungry if you don’t donate, but donations make my life soooo much easier and I appreciate every one. tl;dr black college student currently choosing between them and their roommate having a good, balanced eating schedule and being able to go places/buy nice things for themself because capitalism.

Something that kind of....frustrates me when it comes to the conversation of prison abolition, and similar subjects, is the fact that so many of you require perfect and complete answers to extremely complex questions before you’re willing to get on board, so much so that you would rather stand behind a system you know is immoral, inhumane, and failing rather than stand in imperfect opposition to it.
Us not having figured everything out 1000% perfectly and effectively doesn’t change the fact that what we have has been harmful, destructive, and shameful.
Not having the answers to the new questions shouldn’t stop you from rejecting what we know doesn’t work.
