This clip is just perfect and it captures the kind of performer Micchan is. I’ve been avoiding talking about her taidan for some time now. It’s something I knew would inevitably happen when she was announced as top, but even knowing the inevitable, the heart still breaks a little because I will never get to see this type of sienne for awhile again. Someone who doesn’t mind getting ugly for a role, cries, screams sometimes in a very unpretty un-otokoyaku-like way, can be so dorky and so uncool that it was a wonder if she would ever be a good fit as top star :-).
If I go back into my library of Micchan shows, I can probably count the cool roles on one hand, and all the other types on the other digits of my hands and feet and it’d still not be enough. Still though, for this one to have made it this far is a miracle, and I am just so grateful I’ve gotten a chance to follow her career these past 6 years. I can’t even imagine what it’s like for her fans in Japan who have watched Micchan grow up in Zuka for the past 21 years and witnessed all the ups and downs first-hand, watch a kid grow up to be an adult and a leader of a troupe. This sense of having a village (the FCs) raise a child resonates in many siennes, not just Micchan alone, and I think this brings a sense of connection between Takarazuka and the viewers on a very basic human level.
