sometimes knowing that when he came home his apartment would be empty was a thought of comfort & sometimes.. it was the exact opposite & the thought alone had him feel this .. intense dread that managed to make him stop in his tracks & re-consider his life choices. tonight was one those very nights, so instead of heading home after a very long, very late shift, ezrah had roamed the city & eventually settled at the bar in the grotto. he could into the back, let loud music & heavy drinks wash his sorrows away, but what would that get him besides a hangover in the morning?
instead, maybe it would be enough if he just stayed at the tavern, ordered himself a few beers, some good food - the appetizers he'd been munching on had looked quite pleasing to the mundane eye & tasted pretty good, too. he wondered what other treasures he could find on the menu. although, logical brain said it would be much smarter to ask next time he was hit on for a refill & so he merely waited for his time to leap & did. maybe he was a little tipsy, his tongue (& his face, not a single frown to be found!!) a little looser than ... usual. "sooooo, say i'm still hungry...what could you recommend? i.. want something utterly satisfying, y'know? rich and flavory."
At this point of the night, most of the party was in the back, where his patrons were basking in the warmth of his drinks and the live music. So of course, most of the staff would focus their attention back there while Marino focused in the front, where he attended the last few families until it was just him and the lonely soul at the bar. But hopefully, with his attentive presence there, and the food he's specially made for the other, that he doesn't feel like he's alone.
Marino exhaled a snort as he refilled the other's drink before he leaned down and propped his chin on his fist so he could be at eye level with the fae. "If I didn't know any better, I would have assumed you were flirting with me," he teased, flashing the older looking gentleman a wink before pulling back and stretching. "Well, if you're still hungry, I can offer you a slice of chocoflan? A cake with a layer of dark and rich chocolate, and on top, a sweet and creamy baked custard." Yes, the suggestion was a sincere one, but it was also evident he laid it on thick with some of these words. "I've been told that it has good mouthfeel and nothing like they've had before... Of course, if that's not to your liking, we can find something else to satisfy you with."
It's no secret that Francisco had a strong affinity to keep to himself and only focusing on his research in both magic and science. So initially, it was a shock that he pursued academia as a career option, but it quickly made sense when people found out that his goal was to receive tenure at the college here in Alexandria so he could continue doing what he enjoyed with the job security.
Surprisingly, Cisco was not a bad teacher despite his usual characteristics. When he spoke to the class, it seemed like he enjoyed his time there and did everything in his power for his students to feel the same as he did. And was even willing to help them if they were not understanding something. So, he built a habit to constantly scan the room to make sure that his students appear to understand the concepts he was trying to convey. And as the witch was doing his routine, he noticed a face that didn't belong. Still, he allowed for the other man to stay.
It wasn't long for his class to end and that the two of them were left alone in the hall. "You," Francisco said sternly as he pointed at the man, though a subtle was poking through his facade. "C'mere." His finger beckoning the other to come closer. "I thought I told you when my office hours were. You might have to start paying tuition with how often I see you in my lectures."
THE GROTTO: a modernized tavern that specializes in its refreshing drinks. as well as offering a seasonal menu with a wide array of foods from all the places marino has traveled. and although it is a family oriented establishment early in the day, if patrons know of the secret path beyond the back hall that’s always under construction, they would be transported to a live music bar, where heavy drinks and talent fill the room throughout the night.

BIOGRAPHY
Marino was the middle child of thirteen children. He's not entirely sure if that's still the case.
Merman are known to be very independent despite their large communities. However, Marino exhibited the opposite traits when it was time to depart from his pod, wanting nothing more than to stay a little longer.
He was able to survive on his own, but he tend to linger when he spotted other merfolk, wanting to create a sort of collective. It was never successful, as the longest he's gotten was a full year.
Regardless, Marino traveled across the world countless times, learning everything he could about the communities around, finding himself to stay around the coastal towns due to limitations.
He was always very benevolent, even with the humans. Whenever he could he tried to keep the weather in check to minimize the damage nature could cause on others.
However, after many years of traveling, he somehow heard about this special town that was home to a lot of different supernatural species.
Obviously, his curiosity got the best of him, because he was quick to give up his immortality so he can immerse himself in this small town.
Marino was quick to put his roots into his town, wanting to create a modernized tavern and offering the people of Alexandria refreshing drinks and food that he's learned from all across the world. (Maybe even some sunken wine that he's come across through his travels)
The Merman is currently living in the chateau, as he prefers the community that it offers. However, he's been thinking about moving to the apartment on top of his restaurant. Most likely with roommates to liven up the place.
