S01E03 ― “The Base Violence Necessary for Change” ↳ Vi in every episode

i haven’t abandoned vi i promise she’s just a low activity blog and i’m at my parents’ for the holidays so i’m getting distracted 😵

vi and jinx

there are multiple times in arcane where vi intends to ditch cait, starting with her hunting down sevika and interrogating her, then when she sees jinx’s flare. she has the information (jinx is her sister, the terrorist that caitlyn is seeking) and fully intends to run away with jinx to wherever her sister will be safe, then caitlyn catches up. jinx takes precedence until the arcane gemstone and the bigger picture comes into play.

vi likes caitlyn, obviously finding her physically attractive and even likes what she’s seen of her personality by that point, but she only starts actively falling for her during her speech to ekko where she realizes, oh, she really is different from the rest of the topsiders and actually wants to make a change. until then she’d been naive at best or complicit at worst when it came to piltover’s privilege and the enforcers’ corruption.

even after she begins falling for her, she only really chooses getting caitlyn off of the bridge over staying behind for jinx because a) caitlyn’s injured and b) they need to get the gemstone to jayce to relieve the growing tensions between piltover and zaun. vi chooses the greater good over her sister, not caitlyn specifically. again, vi ends up falling in love with caitlyn, but they’ve only known each other for a day? a few days? jinx is her family, the only family she has left and she loves her more than anything.

vi not killing caitlyn during the dinner scene wasn’t her choosing caitlyn over jinx or her not loving jinx enough, it was her choosing the greater good, because hey! killing is bad. the narrative tells us time and time again that this is a story about violence and war being bad.
