It is really kind of devastating when white people tell you you “aren’t like most Asian girls” and you realize that they really mean “I like you because I think you act like you’re white”.

THIS abso-fucking-lutely. It's definitely been very devastating for me as someone who came to American with a very thick accent in elementary school and finding out as a 7 year old that the whiter you acted the more you were accepted. And some nights wishing you could just wake up white and maybe they would say you smelled like curry and that your hair was greasy. 

Years spent fixing my accent, fixing my hair, fixing the way I dress, fixing the way I talk. As someone who has essentially tried to whitewash themselves as much as possible and finally started being able to embrace that my ethnicity is also a beautiful part of me and then still being told "but srav, you're pretty much a white girl" is absolutely devastating. At the end of the day I won't be white. I'll never be white. So don't fucking tell me I am.
