“You have no idea,” he sighed, shaking his head. Though the exhaustion, the extra practices he was putting in for the teams meant improvement in his performance on the field - something he longed for since first joining any sports team. “It was honestly horrible. I don’t know how I didn’t notice at first.”
“As long as whatever you’re doing makes you feel happy, I guess I can’t say much about it.” he smiled kindly at the other boy. He was trying his best to be emphatetic, but most of the times he felt exhausted it was mentally rather than physically. “Look at the bright side, at least you noticed. It could have been worse like brushing your hair with your toothbrush or something like that.”
“Is that really all? I was expecting jaw dropping drama!”
“Told you I don’t go out a lot. Got the wrong guy here.”
“I walked into the shower with my socks on this morning. I didn’t notice until halfway through. That says it all, really.” Philippe chuckled lightly which shortly turned into a yawn, as he scratched the back of his neck. With so many games coming up, he was practicing like crazing and it was starting to take a toll on him now.
“Shouldn’t you knock it down a notch? I mean... Whatever you’re striving for is probably great, but you seem exhausted as hell.” he shrugged nonchalantly, it was his own way of manifesting ‘but what do I know anyways’ “The feeling of a wet sock is one of the worst in the entire world that must have been awful.”
“Wait, what? You were talking to me?”
“No, I’m actually insane. This conveniently placed plant here is my friend and I was talking to them.” he sighed, holding the notebook in front of the other male. “That was a lame attempt of a joke, anyways you dropped this thing and for the last five minutes I’ve been trying to tell you.”
I wanted to talk about it. Damn it. I wanted to scream. I wanted to yell. I wanted to shout about it. But all I could do was whisper, ‘I’m fine.’

i look at you and all the lights go out in my heart, so that all i see is you, and your brightness, and the suns i see swirling in your bloodstream. i want to somehow tell you the way that it feels to be in your orbit, but despite all of these poems, i still feel libraries grow inside me about your touch. there isn’t ink enough.

Hazel nodded and smiled over at him as she finished her cup of tea, squeezing the rest of the tea out of the small bag before flinging it into the designated teabag bowl. As she walked back over to the table she crinkled her nose. “I’ll keep your secret, nobody else needs to know.” Hazel was completely and wholly honest to Finley with her feelings, and she felt it was reciprocated. There was nothing else she could have wanted than to make Finley feel relaxed, like he didn’t need to watch his tongue and thoughts around her. He deserved to be free, and if he couldn’t do that all the time yet, at least around her. “Alright, let’s get down to business.” She took another sip of her tea and tugged the towel all the way around him before taking a hold of the scissors. “Is there anything you want in particular?”
“Thank you, I was fearing my heartbreaker reputation was coming to an end, I mean people wouldn’t look at me the same way.” he laughed under his breath at his attempt of a joke. He was pretty sure he didn’t have a reputation at all, and if he had one it’d probably be something along the lines of ‘the dude that needs to smile more’. He already knew she wouldn’t say anything about it, or anything else he told her for that matter; and he appreciated the secrecy, for no reason other than him being closed-off. “Well... Not really, I just want it short, You can do whatever you want, as long as there’s still hair in my head I’ll probably love it.”
Hazel didn’t say anything, she noticed the blush in his cheeks and that was enough for her. She smiled as he walked off to the bathroom and pushed herself out of the couch to go and fetch the pair of scissors she used on herself when she felt like she needed a bit of a trim. She sharpened them a bit with one of the many gadgets John had found back home and sent in a care package, and made sure she had a dustpan and brush handy for later. She pulled out one of the seats at the table and was clearing her work away when Fin walked back in and nodded at the chair. “Take a seat, darlin’. Do you want a drink? I’m gonna make myself a cuppa tea.” She had just finished her pile when she turned to the kettle and was filling it up by the sink.
Finley sat down and attempted to dry a little the bits of his hair that were still dripping water. The previous emotions left him a bit overwhelmed but it was nothing he couldn’t control. “No, I’m good but thanks... That was literally the first time I’ve blushed in years.” He didn't fool himself into thinking that she didn't notice, he knew she did. For some reason it just felt right to tell her, it felt right to tell her everything. He didn't feel the need to be so secretive with her like he was with other people. He figured that if there was anyone he could trust with his stuff it was her and so far he hasn't regretted it.
“I can do now. I was just making notes for an essay due in the new year, it can wait.” Hazel smiled at him, pushing back his hair again as she looked him in the eyes for a few moments, listening to him and shaking her head. “It’s not silly. I agree, I think it’s a good idea too. It’s baby steps at first, it always is.” She noticed in his eyes that there was something he was holding back, but she didn’t say anything. “I’m proud of you.” She knew him enough to know what he’d be thinking and she didn’t want him to carry on that train, so she leaned forward and kissed the corners of his lips. “I’ll get the scissors. I’ll have to use my water spray, unless you wanna go and wash it first?”
“Oh, uhm... Thank you.” Anyone that knows Finley can say that he doesn’t really blush at all. Not even when embarrased, which isn’t really that often anyways considering he’s pretty much a shameless person. The thing here is that he didn’t expect the words ‘proud’ and ‘you’ in the same sentence, all referring to him, so it was only natural that his cheeks turned a light shade of pink. If there was any bad thought on his mind prior that moment, it was now completely erradicated by the feeling of butterflies on his stomach, it wasn’t the first time he felt that way and with Hazel on his life it probably won’t be the last one. Even so he wasn’t completely used to this sensation, so he quietly cleared his throat and walked to the bathroom after muttering a soft, “I’ll go wash it.” only to return a few minutes later with his hair all wet and a towel around his neck.

Hazel nodded as he started his train of thought, always finding it interesting how he took pauses to think. She knew so many people that didn’t think at all before they spoke but Finley always seemed to. And she knew a lot of the time it probably wasn’t the best thing, he shouldn’t have to doubt himself so much, especially not around her, but she couldn’t help but find it fascinating to watch his expression. The slight creases in his features forming. He took her breath away and he had no idea, no matter how much she told him. She felt a pang in her chest as he asked her, knowing that he was a creature of habit a lot of the time. “Of course.” She smiled at him gently and checked her watch quickly. “Do you want me to do it now or do you want some time?”
“I mean now would be a good time, but if you have something else to do I can definitely wait.” he shrugged, he knew Hazel was way more responsible than him when it came to studies and pretty much everything else, to be honest. He didn’t mind, in fact he liked that about her, she’d make him strive to be better without even noticing. “It’s silly, but I just thought it be a good idea. Kinda of like a ‘New Year, new me’ kinda thing; but actually meaningful. I’m really tired of feeling...” like me, he stopped himself from saying that, that’s exactly the kind of thoughts he’s supposed to avoid. “...you know, and I guess starting with small changes could be helpful.”
