Well, I take pride in myself for having 5 songs of completely different genres in my top 5 songs this year lol
DAVRIN 💪 Dragon Age: The Veilguard (2024)
So many dumb and condescending takes on the US election from (white) Tumblr. Unsurprising but still disappointing.
Word on the street that L*canis is pretty boring? Well, nice to hear that word used on the fandom's favorite white man lol
Please help me decide if I should get Veilguard now or not, and, if I'm buying it, on PC or PS5
Since it happened in real life and in fandom, I'm seeing an opportunity for another introspection?
How do you treat Black characters- Black people as a whole- when they are frustrated?
Do you feel threatened? Do you feel like they're threatening your faves?
Everyone gets frustrated. It's human. Everyone gets annoyed, everyone says things that they don't always mean, either in exaggeration or in complaint or in pain. When someone hurt you and you say you want them to eat shit, that doesn't mean you're actually going to go shove shit down their throat.
So when Black characters or Black people express their frustration, how are you receiving it? Do you receive and respond to their frustration the same way you do nonblack- usually white- peers? Do you take time to recognize where they are speaking from? Do you see if they're speaking from pain or exhaustion? Or do you immediately jump to defense? Are you immediately ready to assume the worst of them, that they're "one of Those ones"?
It ties into the perception of Black people as threatening; as threats.
For example: if a white character held a knife up and genuinely threatened your fave, would you find that "sexy"? Would you read into "the undertones" for later on, be willing to give them a chance to grow? If a Black character did it, in the same tone of voice and posture to your fave, would you find it upsetting? Why not the same reaction? What changed? Why did you not assume the same intent, or offer the same grace? Pay attention to yourself at these moments.
Is this a common thing? Why would anyone be afraid of a character? Like I get if you were threatened by anyone irl you might feel scared, because you’re being threatened. But why would you get scared seeing a character threaten some other character? They’re only characters I’m confused. Am I too autistic to understand or there some other meaning I’ve missed
Hi, if I say something is a racist concern and you essentially reply "does that really happen", you are being racist, regardless of your intention or your autism.
I think you're misunderstanding the post, yes. People will project their biases into their experience when they're watching media. You're supposed to feel things when you watch media. The media is supposed to evoke feelings within you. The issue is you responding to the actions of one character differently than the similar actions of another, and the reason for that difference between those two characters is their race.
This can happen consciously and unconsciously- if you think Black people are more threatening than white people in real life, you will project that into your viewing experience. I am telling you to consider both situations, and to consider noticing how you're responding to the actions of Black characters versus others, such as how quick to upset you are when they act in a way you don't like, versus someone that isn't Black doing the same.
Yeah I am considering both situations and I’m saying that no matter what I don’t feel ‘scared’ or ‘threatened’ whether or not the character is black or white.
I respond to a characters actions the same regardless of race. And I am not denying that racist people do this, I am simply shocked. I have that reaction with pretty much everything, because it’s stupid to hate and I keep forgetting that people (like racist people) are stupid. My reaction of ‘oh wow ppl really do this?’ Doesn’t automatically make me racist
I would like you to find people of color on this site and ask them how they feel about people who comment "wow does this really happen" on their posts about racism. You will find that it is not taken well. But okay.
Two types of wypipo when we call out racism:
"I don't feel called out because I've never witnessed it, but I'm color-blind and therefore not racist."
or,
"I feel called out because I've done this, but I'm color-blind and therefore not racist."
and both types feel the need to say it out loud.
Idk why Tyler chooses to drop Chromakopia on a Monday but I just noticed it's also Frank Ocean's birthday. I hope it's intentional and Frank will make an appearance on the album or something. But I'm probably just being desperate and delusional atp.
Hozier having much much more followers than most of the biggest r&b and hip hop artists on this site is so funny
Tumblr might be way less misogynist and way less queerphobic than Reddit, but it's just as US-centric, white normative and racially insensitive as Reddit or any other major social media. I miss Black Twitter.
Perfect timing for the story of the Shades of Frontiers
Theo answers if he would like to reprise Wyll and shares more stories about the casting for Wyll
Honestly this feels rude. Theo was originally chosen to be the VA for Wyll back in 2020, but then covid happened and Larian replaced him because... they thought they wouldn't have the time to finish it with Theo? And it sounds like Theo didn't expect this. ("I literally got the role for Wyll, and then it was taken off me... so that was tough.")
Theo doing a Samuel L Jackson impression (because of his purple-haired Gith Tav Solomon)
Theo doing an American accent
Theo learns what shipping means and shares his thoughts on Wyll ships
Yeah... the conclusion to Dalish camp's quest/story isn't satisfying at all. Some white people's "let go of your generational trauma let's sing Kumbaya" type of shit
Met Zevran yesterday and so far I like him. But maybe it's cuz I like to nitpick or complain so:
The fact that I'm a Dalish elf doesn't seem to matter much in the interactions with him? Especially when I asked him how he felt about the Dalish, he didn't remark on this at all.
I like that he's bisexual and flirtatious but the way this is attributed to being from an "open-minded" foreign land, which is also why he has a different accent and a darker skin tone, (and adding the fact that he's an elf) feels a bit reminiscent of the sexy exotic trope. Like when such kind of characters are created by a white writer and a white VA and enjoyed by a white majority audience, I can't help but be skeptical of some level of fetishism going on.
