Sean couldn’t help but chuckle. Finn was right. “I-I mean in society t-today i-it probably means working on c-cars or… I dunno, on a f-farm?” With a shake of his head, he knew that wasn’t really true. He was only guessing after all. Sean tried his best not to judge, he knew what it felt like to be on the receiving end of that. “O-Okay, c-cool.” He turned to lead the way there. Only once he had been there, with his brother, and he didn’t like it - it was too loud. Perhaps the second time around it would be better. “A-Are you good at g-games? P-Play a-anything?” He asked, curious. He only played basketball every once in awhile, most times when he was feeling upset and angry.

Finn started chuckling and nodding his head. “Yeah, farms and cars and.. working out, I suppose? What do men do these days, I really can’t be bothered to know.” He started following Sean to the arcade and stuck one hand in his pocket to walk. “I’m good at playing games like.. on an xbox I suppose, but all guys are I think. Oh! Maybe that’s something men do,” he joked, then continued, “I used to swim too, but I’m not sure if that’s a game. Checkers? Maybe this arcade adventure will be interesting,” he laughed.

Turns back to the grill and flips the burgers. “I am curious but I know that you needed time alone and I respect that. If you want to talk about it we can but I’m not going to push you.”

Finn nodded, respecting his uncle’s decision. “Thanks for understanding then, I guess. I’m still sorry I left without telling anyone though. Were you worried?”

Carleigh’s face fell when he let go of her hand, perhaps she should have let go before, or not squeezed it. Her face became slightly pink out of embarrassment. An apology almost rolled off of her tongue, but she refrained. No one like someone who is sorry for everything. Then, the boy wanted to hear about her time while he was away. How could she describe the months she was without him? Carleigh had spent countless nights dreaming of his return to Greensville, questioning why he left her again. He was one of the people who didn’t make he feel as though she was weird, or alone. She didn’t want to mention any of that. That would only make Finn feel bad again and she didn’t want that. “I-I, uhm.. I’d rather not t-talk about me. My l-life is f-far too dull to talk about. My d-days revolve around drawing, gardening, v-volunteering, a-a-and school..” Sighing loudly as they continued to walk towards her house, she looked over at him again. “You kn-know, you d-don’t have to share at a-all.. I was j-just curious. You don’t have to t-talk about the r-roadtrip o-or what happened b-before you left unless you w-want to. W-We c-can talk about something else if you w-want, just drop the t-topic all to-together.”

Finn noticed Carleigh’s cheeks turn pink and immediately felt bad for dropping her hand. Then he felt bad for offering her his hand at all. Blushing could mean she’s embarrassed because she wanted to hold his hand. He had been back for a day and already barged his way into her life. She was probably just fine without him. Finn forced himself to come out of his thoughts and listen to the girl beside him. Negative thoughts weren’t going to help him now unless they kept him from taking her hand again. He didn’t think her life was dull. Finn wanted to hear about everything she did everyday that he missed, he wanted to know what she drew, the things she thought, and where she volunteered. He shut those thoughts down quickly with a cough and a rub of the back of his neck. “I’m sure your days weren’t dull,” he mumbled. “But I understand if you’d rather them remain private,” he continued, trying to tell himself more than he was telling her. “I’m sorry Carleigh, it’s not that I don’t want to tell you, but.. it’s just that.. I really don’t have an excuse. I’m embarrassed.” Finn thought he could tell her anyway. She’d find him so pathetic she’d never speak to him again, but he was much too selfish to do that.

“Not to m-mention the vomiting and h-hang over. Or so I-I’ve heard.” Sean was interested in having a drink but his mom had taught him better. He knew she’d be so disappointed and that would kill him to see. Already he was beginning to like Finn, he seemed like a cool guy. He chuckled. “N-No, that’s c-cool. I-It’s nice to have something like that that you like.. m-manly or not.” He gave him a lopsided smile. “I d-don’t think it m-matters much a-as long you’re o-okay with yourself.” Sean wasn’t like the other guys at school, so he knew. “H-How about the arcade?”

Finn nodded. He knew what hangovers were like, though for a period of time he didn’t experience them. The best way to cure a hangover is to keep drinking and so he did. Finn was starting to like the boy in front of him. He was gathering that he wasn’t exactly the cool guy in school, but Finn almost liked him more for that. Not too many guys were completely okay with Finn’s love for flowers, so he often played it off like a romantic ploy (which it sometimes was), or he intimidated them with his size until they backed off. Finn wasn’t exactly okay with himself, but if he gave up flowers it wouldn’t be because they weren’t ‘manly’. “Eh, what does manly even mean anyway? Arcade sounds great, I haven’t been in awhile.”
