Filters | Blend Modes | Want more Undos? | Deleting Brushes Easily
Not to be confused with Blend Modes, filters are additional tools that can help enhance your work in photoshop. The thing about filters is the sheer number of them, which can be confusing not to mention intimidating. Tips below! To see the image full size, right click and hit “open link in new tab.”
You’ll notice that some of the filter groupings are missing, namely Blur, Render, Sharpen, and Video. Blur and Sharpen are self explanatory (they blur and sharpen things, hoorah!). Render creates new unrelated assets (like clouds and lens flares) and doesn’t really manipulate the current images while Video is… well, I simply don’t use Video. There’s only two filters in that category anyways.
The category name is usually an indicator of what’s gonna happen. Distort has filters that distort things, and Sketch has filters that can make your work more “traditional” looking
This is a SIMPLE guide. Within the filters themselves, there are tons of settings that you can manipulate. Take the case of Styllize->Extrude In that image, I extruded pyramids, but if you wanted, you could also extrude in rectangular prisms. It depends on what button you choose. You can choose how large the prisms are as well as how “deep” they extend.
Some of you will look at these filters and go “ooooooh, That’s how they do it” or “hey, I recognize that!“ Pixelate->Color Halftoneand Pixelate->Mosaic are some examples.
Distort->Displace is the most involved filter, but it can do some cool stuff!
There are some filters that seemingly do nothing and don’t pay rent. To hell with them!
Some filters depend on the foreground and background colors selected. The most notable example of these is the Sketch category. You’ll notice that some of the duotone images are light purple and white, black and white, and magenta and white. That’s because as I went through these filters, the colors picked were changed BEFORE activating the filter. A lot of the filters however, do not rely on foreground or background images.
Some filters have no parameters, meaning that once you click them, whatever result you get is just what you get (e.g. Sharpen->Sharpen). Most of the filters have controls though, so you can manipulate how strong or weak the effects are.
Filters should not be your first choice in some cases; finding images online can be just as effective. Sketch->Halftone is not a bad filter, but I simply don’t like how little controls it has. If you wanted to find halftone patterns then stick them on top of your images (maybe to create a manga look), it actually might look better than if you used the filter by itself.
Some filters are OBVIOUS. Stylize->Extrude and Texture->Stained Glass are examples of this. They’re so distinctive that they scream FILTER. Should you not use these types of filters in your art? No, but sometimes the one thing that sticks out when you overuse filters (or don’t use them properly) in photoshop is how over processed or contrived an image may become. Your viewers should remember your art for it’s content, not that filter you thought you could get away with.
Don’t take my word for it, try it! Even if you don’t like how some of these filters look, that doesn’t mean that they’re useless. Going through filters is good practice; you will begin to understand the filters that work wonders as well as filters that are better left alone
The thing to keep in mind about filters is to use them to ENHANCE your art, not detract from it. So keep calm and filter on!

a quick list of things every roleplayer should know
- the word “dependent” does not have an “a” in it
- when making a page in theme editor, click “show a link to this page” to make the page available in mobile
- to make something in small font, highlight the text you want small and use “ctrl” + “shift” + “-”
- to highlight all the words in your post, use “ctrl” + “a”
- if you need to move something to another post and you need to carry over someone’s icon, move the other user’s picture over by right clicking it, clicking either “copy image” or “copy image URL”, and pasting it in the new post. ( alternatively, you can also change it to HTML and use this code. <figure><img src=“URL OF PICTURE HERE”></figure> )
- to change a size of an image in post, ad height and width to the picture coding. <figure><img src=“URL OF PICTURE HERE” data-orig-height=“THE HEIGHT YOU WANT” data-orig-width=“THE WIDTH YOU WANT” alt=“image” /></figure>
- if you @ someone in a post but save it to drafts or edit it later, it will untag them. you will need to @ them again.
- mass tag replacer ( there is also one included in X-Kit, along with other things such as automatic tagging, blacklist, etc )
- you’re going to need to manually place blockquotes around images. to do so, go into the HTML and put the coding of <blockquote> around the image, and then </blockquote> when the image or group of text is done ( if after the image, it’s usually after </figure> ). Sometimes, however, the “<figure>” coding will break and will stop a blockquote right then and there, so you may need to remove it. you cannot go back to “rich text” after putting a blockquote around a picture, as it will delete it. merely click the little arrow down from ‘post’, click ‘preview on blog’, and when it’s satisfactory, click ‘post’ with it still in HTML.
- before every single reply, read someone’s rules just to clarify you are not overstepping boundaries in any way!
- NEVER REBLOG AS LINK. ALWAYS REBLOG AS TEXT.
- to make regular sized and small font the same size on your blog, use this code after the end brace of “body” : sup, small, sub { font-size:DESIRED FONT SIZE HEREpx;}
- general etiquette is two replies to one post – the person’s previous reply and your reply. this means reblogging asks often breaks etiquette, and should be moved to new posts.
- when changing URLs, keep your old URL and use this code for a redirect page. not only will it redirect users to your new page, it will also redirect them to the page they were trying to reach but on your new page. ( for example, if they were going to OLDURL.tumblr.com/ask, it’ll redirect to NEWURL.tumblr.com/ask )
- if you’re trying to send an ask but someone’s theme prevents you from seeing the full ask box and thus hitting “send”, use THEIRURL.tumblr.com/ask/mobile. also works for submit.
- only the first 5 tags in a new post actually will show up in Tumblr tags
- you are a fantastic roleplayer and should not sell yourself short (✿◠‿◠)

Headcanon that Estë randomly falls asleep. Imagine the Valar in this big important counsel and she suddenly starts snoring and they just look at Irmo like, “Do something.”
And hes like, “Nah, she’s cute!”

Canonical Supernatural Abilities of Tolkien's Elves
lintamande:
Note: This reference is probably incomplete. Tolkien’s concept of his world evolved over time, so references which are bolded(from works written before 1937, when the Hobbit was published) shouldn’t be taken as the author’s final intent.
Elven musicians “can make the things of which they sing appear before the eyes of those that listen.” (Appendix A, Return of the King).
At least one Elf learned to speak the tongues of ‘birds and beasts’ (Celegorm, The Silmarillion, Of Eldamar and the Princes of the Eldalie).
Elves can count the number of people riding in a close formation, and notice their hair color and height, from a distance of at least seventeen miles(28 km). (Legolas in The Two Towers, The Riders of Rohan).
Elves who have been to Valinor glow (Glorfindel, Fellowship of the Ring “Flight to the Ford”, Galadriel, Return of the King “The Gray Havens”, Gildor, Fellowship of the Ring “Three is Company”).
Elves can walk atop the snow (Legolas, Fellowship of the Ring) and have remarkable cold tolerance (Legolas, Fellowship of the Ring, and the host of Fingolfin, The Silmarillion).
At least one Elf could influence by magic the direction paths take within his kingdom, so as to trap someone there. (Eöl, The Silmarillion, Of Maeglin).
Elves can read minds and communicate with each other telepathically (briefly referenced in Return of the King, “Many Partings”, expanded on in ‘Osanwe-kenta’ in Vinyar Tengwar)
Elves can duel with song and knock down buildings with song (Finrod in The Silmarillion, Of Beren and Lúthien, Galadriel in Of The Rings of Power and the Third Age.) Elves can heal with song (Lays of Beleriand, which credits Lúthien’s healing song as one “that Elvish wives long years had sung in those sad lives of war and weapons”) Elves can conceal/temporarily cause to disappear possessions of theirs which they want to disguise (Lays of Beleriand, where Finrod uses magic to conceal the Ring of Barahir and other items which might identify his party, and to conceal them as Orcs).
Elves can create magical items: rope that unties itself when no longer needed, cloaks that make the wearer nearly invisible, rings that make mortal bearers immortal (though not spiritually and at a spiritual cost), the palantiri, gems that emit light, swords that glow in the presence of enemies and swords which are sentient and can talk. It’s unclear if Galadriel’s mirror is a magic item or if she has a magic ability to see distant and future things in it; she herself cautions the Hobbits that thinking about Elven abilities as magic is a mistake (The Fellowship of the Ring, “The Mirror of Galadriel”).

First things first please read my MUN and RULES pages (especially regarding age rules). After that, talk to the muse and the mun and have fun!
I wanted to finish that sketch of Curufin face I posted here some time ago, and draw this - so Celebrimbor (on the left) and Curufin (on the right) in Nargothrond.
And I hope to draw something for nolofinwean week later.
melianella suggested Takeshi Kaneshiro as Celebrimbor, and sharpglance suggested Hans Matheson as Maeglin.
