the first step to making comics is spending way too long trying to make the rigging look good. so that the gay kissing and interpersonal drama hits right
@haridraws gets it.
From my home D&D game:
The party's barbarian ally and bodyguard, and my wizard Kamiko's love interest, Jean Baptiste de Vigny, was tricked into returning to the feywild by his estranged husband, the archfey Alec. When the party followed Jean Baptiste and Alec to Alec's domain, Alec decided to toy with them by throwing them into an arena fight without warning, where they were forced to fight the constructs that Jean Baptiste used to use for training when he first married Alec.
I wanted to paint the moment when the party realized the nature of the situation they found themselves in. They'd been prepared for court intrigues and politics, but had to pivot to life-or-death combat in a moment as Jean Baptiste was forced to watch, prevented from helping them.
I've been poking at this in my free moments since August, but it's finally finished!
My canvas was much bigger than the display size, so here are some detail images!

Not anything that's happened in our D&D sessions, but I was musing on the differences between faerie magic and bindings in folklore versus TTRPGs. A rope of your own hair is the sort of thing that absolutely has power and function in folklore, and that idea plus some Hozier lyrics inspired this image.
Yep, those are Lord Huron lyrics. Yes, I'm doing great and fine and I'm totally normal about my D&D ship, why do you ask?
Okay, been warming up on these drawings of Kamiko. The concept is that it's my D&D character Kamiko as seen by her love interest Jean-Baptiste at a series of pivotal moments. So, in order:
the first night of their acquaintance when he realized she was the bounty-hunting quarry he was after, and he decided not to try to take her in
after her death to the demonic entity Gwynn and revivification, when she propositioned Jean-Baptiste and he turned her down
during the Avillian embassy fight, when Kamiko and Jean-Baptiste got trapped by the terrorists away from the rest of the party while trying to negotiate, and had a moment of perfect sync about exactly when to stop talking and resort to violence
when Kamiko got mauled by the bulette at the crossing into Avillia
Kamiko reacting to Jean-Baptiste getting shot in the leg by the Order of the Serpent with the gatling gun (that the party had helped steal from the government while double-agenting, oops)
the moment Jean-Baptiste revealed his feelings for Kamiko after the Nothic encounter
“Abortifacients” Silk Twill Scarves
Intended as a protest against the state of reproductive healthcare access in America, the Abortifacients scarf is illustrated with herbs that have been used throughout history to terminate unwanted pregnancies. In our modern times, it's harrowing to imagine some people turning to such a life-threatening last resort when the medical technology for safe pregnancy termination exists just out of legal reach. These herbs are dangerous even when used correctly, and many of them work simply because they are literally poisonous.
You can find them here:
www.logandria.com
$10 from each scarf sold will be donated to The National Network of Abortion Fund's Collective Power Fund, which distributes grants to abortion funds across America, with a focus on the South and Midwest, where it’s often most difficult to access a safe abortion. These funds offer direct funding and practical support to individuals who need to access reproductive care in or out of the states they live in.
I ordered one of the green ones and I am so excited for it to arrive!
Do you love spooky tales such as the Boo Hag or the classic legend of The Rattlesnake Honeymoon? Do you love comic books and sequential art
I've been interviewed! I got to talk with Michael from Arcane Carolinas about Tarheel Tales of Terror, how Jeremy and I make the comic, historic influences, and more! If you gave it a listen I'd be thrilled. <3
D&D campaign sketch dump from the past two sessions! We've been tricked into the Feywild by Jean Baptiste's estranged archfey husband, and now we're having to navigate court politicking, fey nonsense, and an overdose of whimsy to try to find and destroy the two trees that manifest Jean Baptiste and Alec's marriage bond.
I'd still know you Not being shown you I only need The working of my hands
Original characters Kamiko and Jean-Baptiste. Been picking away at this digital painting an hour or two at a time for months, so very excited to have finished it. Inspired by the above lyric from Hozier 's De Selby pt 2.
Fire & FrenzyNobody wants to be on the receiving end of Jean-Baptiste deciding to huck a war axe like it's a hatchet.
Kamiko Shimizu, a child of the Merciful One. I was really inspired by Japanese ukiyo-e prints for this one, so I hope the influence shows!
D&D update! Our group got the patronage of a senator and fancy new clothes to attend a ball. Intrigue, political maneuvering, and espionage ensued!
Thunderwave Finisher
A moment from my home game that I had to immortalize: after the entire party being overrun by goblins and captured to sell into slavery, the party managed a jailbreak in truly bombastic fashion. The goblins' leader was a bugbear named Badrag who was the mastermind of the operation, and our party's orc bard, Tauriel, got the final hit in on him by lifting them both into the air with the party's flying carpet (which Badrag had been wearing like a cape) and then thunderwaving Badrag off the carpet and into the rocks below.
Badrag was also toting around our barbarian's zweihander, which he'd used earlier to redirect part of my wizard's lightning bolt, so it was glowing red-hot.
Damn I love D&D.

"What did you do to my sword? This is incredible!"
"I enchanted it to resonate with the frequency of the Plane of Water. When you wield it, a tiny fragment of that plane's power is manifesting."
"The plane of water, eh? Not unlike yourself, then."
"I thought I should stick to what I know."
On my home today I found this beautiful Giant Silk Moth or Robin Moth perched on the store front outside wall of my local package store, Willington Wine and Spirits.. Big - about the size of my fist.. Of course I had to look it up.. @thethirdman8 🦋
Just reblogging to add my painting of some Cecropia moths! I love these big fuzzy babies so much!
