Digimon Tri: Determination Review
Sup guys, Kris here, DAMN, it feels like forever since the previous Digimon Tri. movie came out and I expected the next one to come out next month, But I’m certainly not complaining, so let’s not waste any time and go on with the continuation of Digimon Adventure Tri. And just like before I will be referring the characters by their English names since I grew up with those names and I’m too used to it already. Mmmmkay….. Mmmmmkay.
I felt that in this movie, the pacing seemed a bit slower then the previous one, also not much of a sense of urgency compared to the first one. Now I get it, this movie is not nly supposed to focus on Joe and Mimi’s character development but also it has to truly introduce Meiko and Meikuumon. But when you have two very cliche anime things happening such as a trip to the Hot Springs and of course a school fair I can’t help but to feel a bit impatient for all the more intersting stuff that was talking a bit about in Reunion such as the Distortions going on and the infected Digimon. Now the reason I’m mixed on it is because I see where they were going with this, this movie seems to be the “Calm before the Storm” type deal, let the characters have some time to enjoy themselves before shit hits the fan which I don’t mind too much. And it did allow for some pretty funny scenes.
The animation is still very top notch for the most part, especially in the action scenes but I still really dislike when they use 3D animation during the Rookie to Champion evolution. And some distance shots could use a little work.
Even though they were both animated nicely they did feel a bit too short, especially the final one since half of it consisted of Gomamon and Pallmon digivovling( just like the good ol’e days). I also hope the next movies won’t follow the same pattern this one did, which also copied off Reunion, they would have only two action sequences, one in episode 2 and the next one right at the end.
Now I will agree in saying both these characters are really adorable and that they have pretty good chemistry between the other digidestined (especailly Mimi), but they still didn’t truly stand out much to me. Meiko is pretty much the stereotypical shy new girl of the group that I’ve seen in dozen’s of animes before, and it was pretty obvious that there was some sort of connection between Meikuumon and the Distortion/Infected digimon. But I didn’t hate them either, I never once was annoyed by their presence I don’t mind seeing more of them in the future, they just didn’t WOW me all that much, though we still got like 4 movies left so they could still surprise me and I’ll be looking forward to it. But for now they’re pretty average to me, PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON’T KILL ME FOR NOT LOVING MEIKO! :’(
As the poster suggests, one of the film’s main focus is not Tai and Matt but Mimi and Joe. This movie really shows off her personality and traits, she’s someone who’s not afraid to cut through the bullshit and and just tell it like is. She’s a very honest person, though she can be a bit reckless, considered she literally almost killed a few people in a helicopter during her battle with Ogremon, granted those dumbassess should know better then too fly close to a FUCKING MONSTER BATTLE, not going to lie, I kinda laughed a bit. She is not the scared, spoiled little girl from Adventure 01, she won’t run away from danger and when people talk shit about her behind her back she’s all like…
Now I <3 Mimi, but I gotta say Joe really stole the show for in the last half of this movie. He’s conflicted, he questions why did fate/destiny make him a digidestined, what reason does he have to keep fighting? He wants to live a normal, adult life but his destiny as a digidestined keeps calling him back. But instead of dealing with this issue he’s running away from it by studying. Even though he’s fully aware of the problem he has he chooses not avoid it rather than face it. Gomamon was even willing leave Joe, if that’s what it would take to help make Joe’s life easier. I love that by the end Joe’s reason for fighting was very simple, he fights for Gomamon, nothing more, nothing less, good job Kari. It seems now that Joe stops questioning on the WHY and put more focus on the NOW, which is to help his friend. And because of their new sense of “Determinaton,” both Joe and Mimi FINALLY unlocked Gomamon’s and Pallmon’s Mega-level evolution, which was awesome to say the least.
This will be quick, even though they took a back seat seat this time around its good to see that they’re still some unresolved issues going on from the previous film. Which I don’t see being resolved anytime soon.

WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON?!
No seriously what the ever living fuck is going on. We still have no idea what happened to the 02 team and why did Ken apparently became the Digimon Emperor again. Damn it Ken, I thought we were passed this shit already. Also what happened to Imperialdramon, my guess is that he’s also infected. Also that Maki Himekawa is up to some sketchy shit, especially when she fucking smirked when Meikuumon losses her shit and kill Leomon. Also who is that small dragon looking Digimon that keeps following them around? So many questions and theories, so little time.
Even though I liked Reunion more than Determination I still very much enjoyed myself. Sure pacing was a bit off but I did enjoy some of the down time the digidestined is gets before shit gets real. I’m happy that Joe and Mimi gets the spotlight and we get to be more in-depth with them, hopefully the rest will soon follow. Just like before I can’t wait see the next movie , now excuse me but I gotta gush over Mimi some, so see you guys next time, PEACE :)
Of course you can’t have a Digimon series without Leomon dying in some way, I wasen’t even sad really, I found it kinda funny. Yeah I know I’m terrible but c’mon, look how many times this dude has been killed…
