Small snippet from my upcoming Caraval/OUABH fanfic:
The Valegrave Circus
Finale Spoilers!
Scarlett had a say in the design of her gown, of course, but the stars and roses were the details she put her foot down for. Some may have said it was untraditional and perhaps bad luck to wear any color besides lily white on your wedding day. To Julian, she is not a lily white bride. To Julian, Scarlett is Crimson, and Crimson is Scarlett. Pops of red were non-negotiable.
Donatella busies herself with styling Scarlett's hair over her shoulder for possible wedding looks.
“I dreaded your wedding day for the longest time. And now that it's here, and with your true love and not a stranger,” she pauses as her voice verges on giving into the tears she has fought so hard to keep hidden. “I could not be happier for you. I just know you will have a good life with Julian. And I know your day will be as perfect as you always wanted it to be.”
Suddenly, Scarlett's arms were wrapped around her sisters as they both failed to wipe the smiles from their faces. When they pull away, Scarlett wipes a gloved thumb over Tella's cheek.
“I suppose I'll already have my something blue.” She nods down to Tella's blue jay colored gown.

A small snippet from my Red Queen project! Based on:
This is the Barrow family traveling from the Stilts to the Scarlet Guard in a crate of rotten apples. Told from Gisa's perspective:
The more they mushed under us, the more the crate filled with their putrid smell. It was a sharp tangy scent like vinegar. Five of us were cramped together hidden away in piles upon piles of rotten apples, sworn to silence so we’re not caught. Their squishy shell was easy to break, going soft with every new movement and coating our skin in squishy apple filling. We felt it on our hands, on our legs, and my mother had complained about it in between her toes. She coughed as quietly as she could, her eyes most likely watering at the smell of moldy fruit and my brothers combined body odor. None of us have showered in days, nor have we had access to hygiene products on our journey.
I see my fathers outline reach out for her hand in the dim lighting. I can imagine her grip tight and seeking comfort. The only light we have are small light rays coming from the cracks of the cargo hold and that’s practically nothing.
We’re used to it being dark, our electricity cutting out weekly back in the destitute poverty-stricken town we used to live in, but at least we could make out the details of each others faces more often than every other minute when the door creaked just a bit open from the outside before the lock forced it to close again. The last time it did I looked around at my family. Tramy looked sick. Bree looked dull. Mom was wiping away gushed apple juice from her arm with her opposite sleeve and dad was scanning everyone just like I was. We locked eyes at that moment. He gave me a small reassuring smile right before the lights cut out again and we were left in shadows once more.
