“The first thing we do when we meet a new family is simple – we listen. Each family is unique in their struggle and we strive to meet the specific support needs most helpful to the individual family.”
There With Care
Programs Staff
We are proud to partner again this year with There With Care, a local Colorado non-profit born in Boulder 10 years ago. Their mission is to provide a wide range of thoughtful and fundamental services to children and families during the critical phase of a medical crisis. There With Care serves families referred by medical agencies by building a network of services and people who ease the burden of life’s day-to-day obligations with compassion and care.
Since December of 2005, There With Care has provided support to nearly 2000 families who are being treated at 15 hospitals and medical facilities across Colorado. Through the kindness of volunteers, generosity of business owners and the philanthropy of donors, they have been able to ease many of the burdens of children and families facing critical illness. By working with hospitals and social workers who refer families for services, There With Care staff identify the main stresses on a family and work within our community to take what is heavy off their plate.
A diagnosis of critical illness changes the life of a family in an instant.
“When a child gets sick everything you have heard about a parent’s worst nightmare is true. I was trying to be strong but I couldn’t remember to breathe” Marcia, a There With Care mom
The simplest daily tasks become overwhelming when parents are faced with the burden of caring for their child during a medical crisis. There With Care works with hospitals and social workers, to support the entire family during emotionally, financially, and physically challenging times.
The meaning of support is unique for each family. Here are some of the broad range of services which have helped to comfort and care for their families:
Meal Program and Grocery Delivery Relieving the financial strains with a delivery of grocery necessities allows a parent to avoid taking an immune compromised child out to the store and prepared meal deliveries let families have much needed time together.
Patient and Sibling Support: Keeping families together so that they are able to support each other by providing babysitting, mentoring and tutoring for patients and siblings.
Transportation Program: Families can be assured that they will never have to miss a treatment due to lack of reliable transportation.
Home Maintenance Program: Coming home from the hospital an immune compromised child can be frightening. A parent needs to be certain their home is a safe place to bring their child. We work with businesses in the community to provide housecleaning/industrial disinfection, and other home services based on a family’s circumstance.
Baby Essentials Program: The premature arrival of babies with critical illness throws parents into a traumatic situation where they are often displaced and alone in the 24-hour care of their newborn in the NICU. When they leave the hospital we provide a “Baby Essentials” kit with new/used clothing, books, toys, car seats, strollers, cribs and essential items.
Donations of in-kind items such as gently used baby clothes, strollers, bouncy seats or new baby items are accepted at both of their locations from 10AM – 2PM M-F.
