rocky appendages shift and scrape against one another as he stands, suddenly towering over the golden man, "for starters, it's not rock man. it's ben. or i guess the thing – but we're still workshopping that one."
"Ben. That is a good name. Very strong, very simple. My name is Adam." He looked up at the man in front of him and nodded. "I meant no offense, Ben. You are strange but that is not a bad thing, is it? I am a member of a team composed of very strange people, but I love them all the same."
deadlycyborg:
Nebula lost what little patience she had for Adam as she let out a low groan that turned into a full on yell. “Oh– you idiot! Listen to me! For the last time, I am asking you where Rocket went! I don’t care about your crunchy chips.” She let her glare sit on him for a moment before she slowly reached forward and snatched one from his bowl, then popped it into her mouth. “Rocket. Where is he?”
“Not here.” Adam answered quickly, eyes closely following Nebula’s movements as she took a chip for herself. “He said he had important matters to attend to. Or, well actually he said— ‘don’t blow up the ship while i’m gone, alright? i got stuff to do and need a break from you guys! don’t follow me or i’ll blast your nuts off!’“ He tried his best to impersonate Rocket, and then cleared his throat. “Does that answer your question?”
“Wait, people actually come on this website for fun? What’s the point?”
"—what is a website?" Adam leaned in and whispered it almost like a secret.
A formerly invisible body flickers into view as Susan deftly steps to the side to avoid the person coming in her direction. “—Sorry. Growing pains. It’s a work in progress.”
Adam, clearly startled, jumped in the opposite direction as Sue came into view. "How do you do that?" He was capable of many things, including the ability to survive in open space, but turning invisible? That was beyond him. "Is it possible for you to teach me that skill?"
"so what i've learned is, carol next door's kind of a bitch, darlene down the street hasn't really left the house much since her husband died, and do not let george who lives in the corner house pull you into a conversation about his old mustang, you'll be there for a solid hour– " he sucks in a breath, shaking his head, "god i've got a lot of catching up to do."
Adam listened with wide eyes, desperately wanting to understand what Quill was talking about but ultimately failing. "So.. you are well, then?" Truthfully, he had been a bit disappointed that Peter had left so quickly after he saved him. Adam knew Rocket missed this man and he was hoping to have another friend. Maybe they could start now.
"yeah, because a condition like this blesses someone with just the wildest sense of humor. give me a fucking break.”
"I have yet to master humor— Rocket tells me this quite often. I am sorry." And he meant it. "Can we start again? I am Adam— what is your name, rock man?"
invisiblewomn:
“Weird, maybe, but it’s good. Do you know how nice it is to not be ordering take-out to the Baxter Building? That won’t mean much to you, but it’s a big deal to me.”
“I could get used to it.” Adam shrugged, but chose not to eat another chip. “I’m sorry to say that you’re right— that does not mean anything to me. But if you are happy, it’s something to celebrate. What is the Baxter Building, if you don’t mind me asking?”
amaqvelins:
“It’s one of the many things you’ll have to get used to.” Crystal takes a bite of her own food, albeit much quieter. “Earth is nothing if not unique.”
Adam swallowed with a cringe. “Well, that is not entirely true. Not so long ago I was on a planet called Counter-Earth— it was also very strange.” A pause. “Although, the High Evolutionary ripped it apart from its core. So I suppose Earth is once again unique.” Not that he liked thinking about that day and that place. It was where he lost his mother.
@exdaughterofthanos
“Gamora.” Adam thought it was her, at least. Rocket spoke of her often and he had tried to kill her a few times— he figured he knew her face well enough just based on that. Still, he was hesitant. Out of the multitude of things he was capable of, aspects of social interaction were what he seemed worst at.
He said her name very matter-of-fact, very formal. Slightly awkward. Adam knew that he was superior to her in many ways but respected her strength and resolve. But respect wasn’t friendship, it wasn’t familiarity. That was something Rocket had taught him— was still teaching him, really.
The golden child of a civilization created for entirely aesthetic purposes wasn’t going to be the easiest person to get along with. Adam was created to be strong, to be the best of his people, to be the Warlock. Instead he found himself lost and alone like a puppy tossed out into the rain— scared, frightened, looking for someone to take him in. Adam could crush bones between his fingers and survive the vacuum of space, but what he couldn’t do was survive on his own. He wanted to belong somewhere, to mean something to people.
Failing his mother and losing her had irreparably changed him. Then Groot saved him. Then he saved Peter. Then Rocket took him in. Everything happened in such a short period of time and it left him feeling off-balance, trying to find his footing as he bonded with his team.
Seeing Gamora walk off as everyone gathered around Quill that day.. it left Adam with a lot of questions about what it meant to be close with someone. He had seem Gamora with the Guardians— fighting with them, flying their ship, protecting Rocket. So why hadn’t she joined in?
He cleared his throat as he approached her. “I know we have all just arrived on Earth but.. there is a question I have been wanting to ask you, if that’s alright.”
“No, no— I was not listening to your conversation. I was eating.” Adam placed a chip into his mouth and bit down with a crunch, jumping in surprise before practically shouting his next words. “Why is this food so loud? Your planet is so strange!”
