I must say the way Sarah J Mass handled tamlin and feyre’s relationship was one of the greatest things I’ve read

-it showed that someone can love you but not really care about you

-it shows you can love your captor

-it shows how abuse can make you blind to what is happening to you

-it shows that you cant stifle someone

It was just such a great way to handle it.

As someone who has experienced mental illnesses I can tell you sure as hell that Sarah J Maas portrays them all so well.

Aelin and Feyre both experience crippling depression. Aelin after one of her best friends is slaughtered and Feyre after she has had to kill to free half a continent. Feyre experiences PTSD and claustrophobia after being locked away for months at a time. And no matter what other people may say about how she has written her characters’ experiences with these she in no way romanticizes any of them.

right now i’m beginning Heir of Fire and i hate Chaol and whenever I have to read in his pov i wanna scream and i know i haven’t read all the books so far but god damn Chaol shut up you little shit

SJ Maas is honestly my hero. She has broken so many stereotypes for YA novels and everyday society in general.

Like:

• Strong female characters who literally don’t need men to save them

• REALISTIC ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION

• A MALE character who has been sexually abused and assaulted and suffers repercussions from it

• The first guy a girl meets is not her soulmate (i.e. realistic relationships)

• Depictions of both male and female abusers/abusive relationships

• FEMALE CHARACTERS ACTUALLY LOOKING OUT FOR OTHER FEMALE CHARACTERS

• Did I already mention badass women who could kick a man’s ass if she needed to?

This is why SJM is my favorite author.

The first photo is from when we first meet Amarantha from ACOTAR and the second picture is the last description of her. The third picture is from the first page of ACOMAF. Anybody have a good explanation as to why her hair color keeps changing because that doesn’t seem like something S. J. Maas would mess up?

Random thought

Can you just picture Rowan screaming Aelin’s name in that part during Heir of Fire when she was fighting those valg princes? Can you just picture it? Because I can and it makes my little heart hurt to think about the sadness in his eyes or the way he can barely get her name out because he doesn’t want her to go… to leave him. 

Or can you picture the part in Heir of Fire when Aelin tells Rowan about her whole life, and when she starts crying, he wipes away her tears? Like…. Awwww. :’)

Or in Queen of Shadows when they FINALLY reunite and he just holds her and buries his head in her neck? Like it’s so obvious that he missed her more than life itself I don’t know why he even tries to cover it up. 

I’m sorry I just love Rowan more than anything on this earth.

I feel like people always picture Rowan the stoic who doesn’t like to show emotion. But at the same time, actually picture him horsely screaming her name over and over while fighting against these huge guys attempting to hold him down. Then slicing his palm and sprinting to her. 

Or when she broke the blood oath for him and he fell to his knees when he did it, then ran to her and held her face and just whispered her name, like thats so emotional.

Or that the day he met her, his nightmares went away. And the she left, they came back.

OR when he went and awkwardly bought her chocolate for her birthday, and let her sneak a kiss on his cheek.

Or when he confessed to her that he missed her, and he kept saying sorry over and over, and couldn’t look at her.

Or when he saw the follower girl in Rifthold and just stared and said “I didn’t deserve her” and couldn’t talk for like, half an hour.

Or when him just being around made Aelin able to survive being with Arobynn, and Arobynn couldn’t get under her skin because of her and Rowan…who just sat there and stared at each other grinning, having silent conversations and being happy amidst turmoil. 

Or when he looked her in the eyes and said that if death were separating them, he would find a way to find her.

Or what about when he looked at her, and just said “Fireheart” for the first time?

ROWAN WHITETHORN IS ACTUALLY SO EMOTIONAL AND IS MY SMOL SON, I LOVE HIM HIM SO MUCH OKAY

How about the time he brought he carried her to Mistward even though it burned him Or when he let her sleep in his room Or when he cared for her when she almost drained her magic Or when he prayed to Mala to let them be together Or how he went to Sams grave with her Or when he said he would do anything, give anything in order to keep her safe and our of harms way Or how he would sell his soul to the dark gods just so she would not be in turmoil Or how he wanted to be hold her face when she spoke about how Chaol called her a monster Or how he wanted to just touch her to let her know he was there when they went into the cellar at the Assassins Keep Or how he sat by her bedside for three days

Rowan Whitethorn may have flaws but there is no denying that he would do anything for Aelin Ashryver Galathynius
