There's a dragon who politely calls you "cousin" as you pass each other on the street. Your friendd ask why the dragon refers to you as such. You're human and as far as you know there's no draconic heritage in your family. Hell you did a DNA test to confirm. Not a trace of dragon in you anywhere.

You brush it off. The dragon is just being polite. Surely it calls everyone it meets on the street "cousin," no? Except it doesn't. It calls your friends sir, or miss, or friend. It calls *you* "cousin."

Then one day your wings come in. You're scared and nervous but so excited because WOW you have WINGS and they're so pretty. In an hour, your "cousin" is at the door ready to help, with a basket loaded with everything you'll need. There's scale polish to help make you shine, talon trimmers to get those unruly claws under control, and even a few choice pieces for your very first hoard.

Turns out your cousin knew you better than you knew yourself.
